I am a huge fan of Kiersten Modglin's books. I was so excited to receive an audio copy of You'll Never Know I'm Here, in exchange for an honest review.

Unfortunately that is where the praise ends on this one.

You'll Never Know I'm Here is a quick read, or quick listen. It's too short to really develop any character, so you are stuck with a caricature of a person. For example, the main character, Lena goes on a job interview at a local book store. The store owner, Memphis, is very rude to her, and when she fails to answer a book recommendation question correctly, she is dismissed.

Memphis and Lena later run into each other at a weekend getaway for book influencers. Memphis is still rude and standoffish. When Lena calls him on it, he says it's because he's attracted to her, and he never hires people he's attracted to. LAME. There is absolutely nothing to suggest and attraction between the two. The characters are flat, the story is flat. Even the twists in the book are lacking, and underdeveloped.

It's safe of Modglin fans to skip this one.

I want to start with the narrator Stacy Gonzalez, there were six book bloggers in the narrator stacy Gunsallus made four of these people sound like buffoons she added extra vowels to the end of each last word and every sentence which made them all sound like potheads with the exception of Mara and Memphis who she made sound like a sleazy seductress for her and a serial killer for him. Not to mention she made the towns people sound like backwoods the phones and then the end I agree some of them were but one of these book bloggers was from Florida the state most known for crazy people but I digress. Now Kiersten Modgelin can really write some great books I think she does because she takes risks like Don’t Go Down There and You Can Trust Me which in my opinion are some really great books but sometimes when taking risk you wind up with .If You’re Reading This and You’ll Never Know I’m Here had I read the Kindle book I may have given it more stars but the narrator was almost insufferable and it sounds like she has a nice voice just the voices she does makes me think people must really care about her feelings because why wouldn’t someone tell her your character distinction makes them all sound like they’re drug attic‘s or idiots it still wouldn’t have been a five star read I mean in the book one book blogger is mocking another because he is reading a book! Opposed to being on his phone like everyone else, that is wrong in so many ways. I have many other examples like everything Paulette said not to mention Will who seem like he barely had a personality and all I kept thinking is these people are book bloggers… Really? Well you get my point this wasn’t a great book I didn’t like it didn’t like the narrator but like always I will still read Kiersten Modgelin’s books because sometimes like a grab bag you get a good one. I still appreciate the free Ark given to me by Net Galley and Dreamscape media. Please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.

This was the kind of books that once you have picked it up you will literally not be able to put it down. This book felt a little different than Kiersten’s other works, but similarly I found myself finishing this one in one sitting. I liked the tie in with bookstagramers and the idea of having a get together and meeting in real life. I loved the idea of friends who share a passion for books having a weekend away. Unfortunately there is something wrong in the small town they chose. Lena was ready for a weekend away. Recently divorced and having moved back to her home town she is jobless and feeling rather pathetic. Luckily she is getting together with 5 of her closest online friends. Despite the awkwardness when she recognizes one of the others as the rude man who interviewed and didn’t hire her for his bookstore she decides to have fun. But strange things happen and their picturesque trip is seeming more dark with every turn. The end was full of twists as all Kiersten’s books are but I found the end explanation a little lacking in believability. Despite that this is the perfect book if you want to stay up past your bedtime. I think this book is even better when you listen to the audiobook. the narrator did an excellent job and the story had more life from the very first sentence.

I did enjoy the book and the narration but I found it ended too abruptly.

It was a fast listen that I couldn’t stop listening so I give this 3 out of 5 stars

I usually like this author but this one fell short. I was so mad at the ending and felt cheating out of the time it took me to read it. So unrealistic and unbelievable.

I am a huge KMod fan and have listened to many, many of her books... but this book was NOT IT!! I can't stand a FMC who does stupid things just to move the plot along. Should we escape a creepy couple next door, or should I convince the group to go near the house because I see something weird? TOTAL BORE! Then the reveal towards the end was just so far fetched.

I did enjoy the narrators voice and how she changed her voice for the male parts. I would listen to this narrator again.

Kiersten Modglin is an automatic ARC request for me. I thought I was going to absolutely love this one. There were so many elements I did end up loving about it. Unfortunately for me, the ending and twist just did not land with me. I was absolutely hooked until the twists started to unravel and then I feel like this one jumped the shark a bit.

Fast paced whodunnit. You need to know what happens for sure, it keeps you interested. Narrative was good as well.

i was VERY intrigued by this premise! book influencers are meeting up for a get-together after knowing each other for years. i’ve never read a book with that premise.

however, this book sadly wound up to be a miss for me /: i did not like the audio narration, but this book was only a few hours long at the speed of which i was listening, so i just pushed through. i was interested in the story, but this book fell into the categories of characters making dumb decisions and the villain explaining everything at the end. it just felt dumb to me and made me drop my rating from 3 to a 2.

i don’t think this is a bad book per se, but i just didn’t care for it personally. the characters had no real depth to them, so i couldn’t understand why they did what they did. this author’s books tend to be more plot heavy, but i’ve seen this author succeed in characterization before. speaking of plot, i was interested enough to find out what happened, but the pacing was sort of weird. nothing really happens for the first third, then some smaller things happen (where the main character is more of an observer than an active participant), and there’s a bunch of action at the end.

i don’t recommend this book from this author, and would recommend some of her other books instead. however, KMod continues to be an author whose new releases i will pick up. they only take a few hours and don’t require too much brain power.

You’ll Never Know I’m Here audiobook comes out February 26, 2024. thank you to Dreamscape Media, Kiersten Modglin, and Netgalley for an audio ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This story follows a group of thriller reader/book influencer friends on a getaway. What could possibly go wrong?

I really enjoyed listening to this one!

Six book influencers meet for a weekend getaway in a secluded town. Romance blossoms but so does other strange events.

This book kept me engaged. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. What a twist.

Thank you to Kiersten Modglin, Dreamscape’s Street Team and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Yikes.

This audiobook was narrated by Stacy Gonzalez who was ... enthusiastic. I enjoyed her storytelling but it also stressed me out a bit because she seemed so breathless for most of it.

This was a pretty quick audio listen, though the story was a little thin. It revolves around a group of online 'book influencers' who have decided to meet up in person in the middle of nowhere. Because that would definitely be my first pick when meeting online friends for the first time.

I did enjoy the group coming together and getting to know one another in person - I think that's something a lot of us with online friends will relate to. Lena had some interesting delusions about Ethan, and it was a bit of a weak plot point, but it did mix things up a bit I guess. Wasn't looking forward to everyone coupling up but the group seemed to get along in general so the dynamics worked okay.

The murder plot is super thin and I never felt the thrills I think it was trying to deliver. I feel like close inspection would reveal some gaping plot holes - I found the way police dealt with things to be quite questionable and it soured me a little towards the story. I wanted better twists and stronger moments that swept me up in the story, but instead I had a lot of questions about the way things were playing out.

Overall, it just seemed a little weak to me, and the final reasoning for everything put me off completely. It was such a weird angle to take and I didn't buy it one bit. But I hadn't been blown away by the rest of the story so I was already disappointed by the time I got there.

An easy listen, but not particularly strong. I didn't hate it, but it won't be one that stays with me.

With thanks to Netgalley for an audio copy

I loved the premise of this book as a book reviewer myself. It ducked me in from the beginning, however I felt that the plot weakened by the end. The “why” of the book was a little far fetched for me. That being said, this author is an auto read for me and I can’t wait to read what she writes next!

KMOD is always good for a quick paced, thrilling, twisty ride. This is no different but the twist just didn't work for me. She's trying to say something here (kudos for that) but I wasn't here for it. That said, the whole book (aside from the ending) was good.

Would recommend if you love:
-locked room vibes
-book influencers
-fast paced (mostly)

Overall I liked and enjoyed this story, until we got to the big reveal and it just didn't work for me. The big reveal was a doozy but it came completely out of nowhere and was way too rushed. When it was revealed I considered DNFing but the were only about 20 minutes left in the audiobook. I liked the way this was written though as it kept me wanting to read to find out what in the world was happening in this small town.

note: normally I love a good epilogue when everything is resolved and we get a glimpse at the character's futures. This one was YAWN, I wanted more from the characters relationships standing.

The narrator was wonderful, in my opinion. Kept me engaged in the story and dialogue was easy to understand.

A bookfluencer mystery! As a social media "influencer" myself, this was a fun one. A group of bookfluence friends take a content creation trip together and one thing leads too another... no spoilers here though!

I had a personal connection to this premise so I personally really enjoyed it. It may be different for someone who does not.

Thank you @netgalley @dreamscape_media @kierstenmodglinauthor for the Audiobook.

“The dirty dancing movie my parents like so much” - personal attack on my millennial self 🥸

This novella is a funny, quick, comfy read. It gets major points for its book/bookstagram theme. What bookworm can resist a book that talks about books? It has charm and a romance subplot that felt well done but not too much.

For being a short book at just over 200 pages, I thought there was an imbalance of character development to plot development. I felt the mystery was rushed and was overshadowed by the great characters. I’d recommend it to any who likes books about books, likes mystery/thrillers, and needs a short/quick option.

The narration was good. I did not like all of the accents used to differentiate the characters (specifically Austin’s), which is a personal preference. Everything else about the read was enjoyable.

That was.... disappointing. I was there until the twist and then she lost me. It was bad. I thought maybe we'd get another twist in classic KMod fashion, but alas... nope.

I actually enjoyed most of the beginning and felt like Memphis and Lena's story would have made a fun romantic suspense, but even that fell flat.

The good news? The audio was really well done and this was a short read at just over 2 hours for me.

Every Kiersten Modglin book comes so close to being a book that I love but falls just short for me every time. I know one of them will eventually be one I love but I still have really liked every book by her.

You’ll Never Know I’m Here was an interesting premise that had me sucked in from the summary. A group of book influencers rent a house to all get together and meet up for the first time and it turns deadly. This was a short book and I felt it took a little too long to get going but once it got going it was a sprint to the finish.

There were some romance elements here which I did like and I felt it fit well into this fast-paced thriller. I was invested in the relationships and I wanted a happy ending for the main character Lena. The ending was not what I would call a bad ending but it wasn’t that strong either. The twist was not big enough and not all that surprising.

This is a fast read that you can finish in a day easily. I recommend all of Modglin’s books and this is no different, check it out

I recently had the pleasure of reading a book that resonated with me on a deep level. The story centered around a group of six book bloggers who, despite never having met in person, decide to embark on a weekend getaway at a secluded AirBnB. As I delved deeper into the book, I was captivated by the vivid and descriptive writing that made me feel as though I was a part of the group. However, I couldn't shake the eerie and unsettling feeling that rose within me as the bloggers arrived in the small town. It was as though the atmosphere held an evil energy that threatened to consume them.

The author, Kiersten Modglin, masterfully crafted a thrilling and terrifying tale. The unpredictable twists and turns kept me on the edge of my seat, and I found myself fully invested in the characters' fates. I was both scared for them and excited to see how the story would unfold.

Overall, this was an exceptional read that left me with awe and admiration for the author's talent. I am grateful to NetGalley for providing me with an advanced copy of the novel, and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good thriller.
