I can't help but think of the song "American Pie" and the verse "When I read about his widow bride" ever time I see the title of this book.
But, the book is not anywhere near as sweet as American Pie. In fact, this is one of the best thrillers I have read in a long. time.
I was a bit skeptical at first. The book is from a number of POVs and I was afraid I would get lost throughout the story. Especially once other more plots came to light.
However, the author managed to tie it up and not in a unrealistic way either. There have been many books I read where the author rushes to tie up loose ends of the story with a neat little bow. This was not one of them and I appreciated the ending that much more.
Its a solid 3.5 for me, but rounded up to a 4.
Such a thrilling ride. Loved it. I devoured it in one day couldn't put it down. Recommend it to all my friends.
This is my first book by this author and definately wont be my last. Fast paced, unpredictable and what a superb ending.
I received a complimentary copy of this book "The Widow Bride" and all opinions expressed are my own. Switching point of views became a bit confusing at times. It was hard to keep track of what was happening. The end was surprising! Overall I did like the book.
This book had lots of twists and turns, but that also left so much confusion. I had to stop to think about what was happening so often. That made the book less enjoyable. So lots of twists, but confusing twists. It did keep my interest though and that is something to be said. I just don't want to have to think that much while reading a book for enjoyment. It was a struggle to know who knew who and how they knew each other.
I typically like a dual POV, but this one had too many POV’s I had a hard time. The chapters were not clearly marked as to whose chapter it was and when, which is super distracting. This one took me a bit longer to read the I would have liked. I enjoyed this for the most part. The twist was plausible and made me rethink everything about a certain character. I guess I was not totally impressed with the build-up before the twist reveal but it had a satisfying conclusion that I didn't see coming.
I really enjoyed this story. It goes through a girl feeling loyal to her brothers widow. But the story goes through her suspicions of her new husband but who is really taking advantage of who and what is the motive?
Absolutely thrilling and entertaining, this book will keep you on your toes and demanding more!
Very fun and well written
This book was like a whirl wind for point of views. I had access to the ARC. Took me forever to get through it. The author switches points of views so often it take a few paragraphs to figure out who's point of view you are now reading from. Not to mention there is some NOW and THEN pieces in the book which can be confusing with where the events lie/ who's perspective. Pretty sure with how it ended there is no sequel. Honestly this was the first time it took me a bit longer for a book because of the constant POV switching. It wasn't clear from the start who you were reading as. The character names at the top of the chapters would've been nice.
Overall the concept of the book was great but the way it was executed could've been better
I did review on Amazon and good reads but it is pending for a link to share
From ‘Bunnicula’ to King, and RL Stein to McFadden, I’ve always loved thrillers of all kinds and held a special pride, much at the pain of others, for guessing the twist before it happens. It’s a thrill of its own, and when I heard ’The Widow Bride’ was a real twist ending all I could think was “challenge accepted.”
‘The Widow Bride’ primarily follows Rosalyn looking after her deceased brother’s widow, Melanie. Despite her husband only passing recently, everyone finds themselves reeling as Melanie elopes with Blake, her late husband’s friend, seemingly out of no where after only three months. Doubts and ominous signs emerge as Melanie reflects on ignored warnings about Blake’s past and notices a disturbing darkness in him she hadn’t seen before. With secrets held close by more than just one person, danger is never far away.
As each prediction came to fruition, I couldn’t help but feel disappointed in my being correct—until the last 10%. As if zooming out, lines I had read as throw away or random were instead the larger picture that I completely missed. Unreliable narrators caught me completely off guard and the ending left me reeling.
My first time with this author and all I have to say is what terrific writing! This story may not have drawn me in page after page and I may not have found myself binging this one, but I can promise you it had enough “ooos” and “awes” to make this a story one I’d recommend. However, this ending… this book left me jaw dropped with that gut wrenching ending!
I really did want to enjoy this book but sadly I didnt. From the reviews it seems that I am in the minority but sadly this book wasnt for me
The Widow Bride was a fantastic read. It was so full of twists and turns that I really could not guess what was coming next and it really had me turning those pages. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for my ARC.
Wow wow wow!
What. A. Breathtaking. Thriller!
Wild and entertaining, an addictive page-turner, filled with suspense and mystery, and some really weird characters! This was some next-level domestic thriller, while it has all the ingredients of a crazy, manipulative relationship book – some surprises make it… different. In a very good way!
Thank you for the advanced reader copy from Netgalley.
This story started like any other thriller based on couples but it turned into a rollercoaster of twists. So many wild twists.
Really good read!
This book was okay. The ending really saved it from being a 2 star read. Two very good twists at the end. At times it was hard to keep the characters straight and overall there was a lot to follow and keep track of. Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC.
Roslyn and Ashton are working hard to help their friend, Melanie, as she faces the grief of losing her husband, Philip. He was also the beloved brother of Roslyn.
Ashton’s best friend, Blake, confesses that he has always loved Melanie so Roslyn fixes them up on a date. Now they are falling in love and end up getting quickly married while on vacation.
But a woman that Roslyn meets tells her that something is not right about Ashton and Blake. She is sure that Blake, especially, is not the person she may think he is. As Roslyn learns more from her, she becomes convinced that Melanie may be in danger. Roslyn had promised Philip that she would take care of Melanie and keep her safe.
The story begins to pick up here with Roslyn determined to get Melanie away from Blake. But there are twists and turns that Roslyn had not anticipated and she finds herself totally shocked and in great danger.
Of course, there is more to the story here, but I am not going to give out any spoilers. Suffice to say, the ending is quite a shocker that I’m sure readers will enjoy.

A nice light escape and a good beach. read. Nicely written. Good luck with the book and thanks for the opportunity to read.
Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for this ARC of ‘The Widow Bride’ by Carey Baldwin.
This book was phenomenal. The authors writing was amazing. How she came up with the ideas in this I will never know but it was perfect in every way. I think I’ve found a new auto buy author.
I'm so impressed with Carey Baldwin's writing! What an imagination she has to come up with these delicious but complicated stories! A good twist is always enjoyed, but the one at the end of this book has to be among the best and most surprising I've encountered! Thank you NetGalley for the free read.
