Whoa!!! I’m in shock after finishing this addictive psychological thriller. When a major twist came toward the end, I had to go back to reread some parts with that knowledge. Then when I resumed and got to the epilogue, I found myself in for yet another one that I didn’t see coming. I knew some things were a little suspect while reading these intense characters, but Carey Baldwin sure did turn things around a bit on me! What a ride of a thriller!
Thank you, Carey Baldwin, Bookouture & netgalley for my copy! All opinions are my own.
There was alot going on in this book and was really confusing at times.
The plot was twisty and lots of turns.
The Widow Bride is an unpredictable page turner. Will read more from this author
I got confused...there was so much going on, that I couldn't keep up with who was who and who was doing what!!
Don't get me wrong, this didn't distract from my enjoyment of the book, it just took a while for me to get into it and once I did there was no stopping me - I couldn't turn the pages fast enough.
The plot is extremely twisty and had several different storylines weaving together throughout the book, that collided nicely together at the end, just in time for the shocker twist at the end!
The Widow Bride is an unpredictable page turner, full of twisted love and lies.
My first book with this author. I’m going to be reading more.
It was mysterious with a twisting plot. I didn’t see that coming book.
Wasn’t keen on the flipping backwards and forwards of view points of the characters but kept with it. I’m so glad I did. My jaw dropped at the end.
Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for this preview copy.
This book was amazing! I thought this would be a typical abusive husband book with some sort of twist to make it unique. Nothing was as it seemed with this book. All the twists and turns had me struggling to put this book down. The big reveal at the end made me gasp out loud. I never saw it coming. I can’t wait to read more by this author! Thank you to NetGalley for my copy.

I actually quite liked the premise of this book. I kept looking for clues and different motives 😂.
The chapters would jump from the past to the present tense and go back and forth. This combined with the alternating POVs made me a little confused at times and I found myself going back a few pages to try and make sense of things.
The characters themselves were well developed. Blake immediately felt like a creep and I kept waiting for his true colours to show. I did find it tricky to keep track of so many different characters and their roles though.
The pacing was really good and the author managed to gradually reveal bits and pieces of information at the same time so I didn't want to put the book down.
There was a big plot twist towards the end but I did guess all of the other twists.
The ending was ok but I wish Zoe faced real justice instead. Rosalyn's actions at the end didn't really feel true to her character.
*Thank you to @Netgalley, the author, and the publishers for providing this ARC. This is my own opinion and an honest review, which I am leaving voluntarily*
Thank you to @NetGalley and @bookouture for another brilliant thriller that I was given in exchange for my honest review!
Wow. I really LOVED this book and could not put it down! It was mysterious, suspenseful, TWISTY and thrilling! Definitely kept my full attention!
Such a shocking ending that left me SPEECHLESS! Readers, you will be very pleasantly flabbergasted!
Fans of Freida McFadden will LOVE this thriller! Look forward to reading more by this author!
Young widow marries too quickly and regrets her mistake. Not an original story line. It's a good thing Carey Baldwin had a few twists and turns up her sleeve that would turn this story into an Original with a capital O. Like the train that starts a little slowly, so does THE WIDOW BRIDE. Baldwin uses the first few chapters to build back story and introduce characters. When it starts moving, the layers build up and the lies start coming unwound. At this point, you should take your bathroom break and get a drink because about half way through, you will not want to break away for anything. And the ending.......well, it's worth the efforts Baldwin took to build us up. This was an easy 5 star read. Any book that makes you say....WOW....gets 5 stars.
Wow, what a thrilling rollercoaster ride of a book! Packed with twist after twist. I absolutely enjoyed this one.
It took me a while to get into the book but once I did I was flying through. I couldn't call it and the twist at the end made my jaw hit the floor
The premise for this book sounded interesting, but the book itself didn't grip me like some other thrillers. It started slow and took some time for the pace to pick up. It was a decent read, just not one I found myself devouring in one or two sessions. It was a bit confusing at times, but did have a great twist at the end.
Big thanks to Bookouture and the author for this review copy!
❣Thank you to @bookouture for early access to this twisty thriller that had me flipping quickly through to the end.
This book made my head hurt lol!! Not in a bad way, but when the twist at the end occurred, it took a few seconds to grasp wth was going on, and to put all of it together. I was shooketh Lol!!
Actually there were 2 twists at the end, I had literary whiplash of the best kind! 😂 I did not see any of it coming, so well done! 👏
Told in multiple POVs I was hooked from the start. The book starts with a woman named Rosalyn promising her late brother Philip (who passed from cancer) to always look after his wife Melanie.
Depressed and lonely, Mel is encouraged by Rosalyn to go to lunch with her husband Ashton’s bff Blake. Thinking she was doing the right thing by pushing Mel to get out, she quickly reconsiders.
In just a few short months of dating, Melanie and Blake elope. Thats when things begin to really unravel and Rosalyn begins getting more and more suspicious of her ex-SIL’s new husband.
A twisty tale of deceit on so many levels, the story has a lot of information and people to keep track of, but it comes together in the end.
Talk about shock factor. I really don’t want to regurgitate what I’ve just read so take it from me, if psychological thrillers are your thing, you’ll want to read this!
⤷ Side characters I didn’t mention due to not wanting to just repeat what I read, but not left out due to insignificance. Zoe, Lola, Walter Wessex, and Detective Van.
The Widow Bride as a dual timeline story, that flips back and forth between the present day and the past. We are introduced to different characters while moving in time, but we can understand that the story will weave together as one and it will make perfect sense at the end.
Except the ending of this book was impressive, and I was shocked by it because I didn’t saw it coming. The pace is great, and the twists were done perfectly. We have strong female characters that are independent and devious. There were so many secrets, lies, betrayal and revenge throughout the story.
Overall, this book was impossible to put down, so I had to read it in one sitting. I really recommend it to psychological thrillers fans, especially if you like a bit of a dark side to them but beware of the mind-blowing ride you’re going to dive into because when the end hits you, it’s going to be WOW.
Thank you, Bookouture & NetGalley, for approving me to read this arc and write this review.
Rosalyn promised her brother she would look after his wife after he was gone. He wanted Melanie to be happy and move on with her life. Rosalyn took her charge very seriously, and when Melanie began showing interest in one of her friends, she set them up. But now, neither one of them is sure it was a good idea. This is a fast paced thriller with multiple twists. The story is frighteningly believable as something that could really happen. It’s told in multiple time lines with multiple POV-my favorite writing style! The characters were likable as written and not-so-likable for the villains, but that’s as it was designed. Some relationships could be triggering to some readers so do your due diligence before reading. I definitely recommend this one!
I’ve also submitted an Amazon review.
Carey Baldwin is a new to me author, and this book didn't disappoint. It was filled with twist after twist, and I didn't see any of them coming! There are multiple POV's and different timelines in the book, but they were easy to follow and I was never confused. If you're a fan of psychological thrillers, then this books is for you!
From lust, lies, and a whole lot of greed. To secrets, a cold case, and murder. Not everything is what it seems….

A promise to her deceased brother. Rosalyn has been looking after her sister-in-law, Melanie.
“It’s Melanie. The honest-to-God truth, Rosalyn, is that I’m in love with your brother’s widow.”
When Mel finds out the woman Blake, her husband’s best friend, wants to ask out is Melanie. Ros sets them up on a double date.
With Melanie’s quick engagement and things not adding up. Rosalyn has a feeling that something is going on.
To stick to her promise, Rosalyn finds herself in danger when the secrets start unraveling.
This book was such a roller coaster!🤯 I don’t want to give too much away but I was completely shocked at the ending. As we got closer to the end, I was able to solve one of the twists but still blown away by the events.
If you love a good psychological thriller, you will love this! The action and fast pace will have you turning the pages so fast.
Thank you Bookouture for allowing me to join this tour! I enjoyed this book so much. As always, my review is my opinion and thoughts.
First of all, I find it hard to write this review because it's so good that I am afraid I might reveal anything that could be a potential spoiler.
Melanie became a widow after her husband Philip passed away from cancer. Rosalyn promised her brother Philip that she would take good care of Melanie. Melanie's grief is still causing her to avoid socializing.
Blake, a friend of Rosalyn's husband Ashton since college, expressed his interest in Melanie for a while. Rosalyn hopes that Melanie will move on because she deserves happiness, so she arranges a lunch date for Blake and Melanie. Blake proposes to Melanie and they marry three months later, but Rosalyn has doubts that Blake is not what she had thought him to be. What is the rush to get married to Melanie? Rosalyn is eager to uncover additional information about Blake. As she delves deeper, she warns Melanie about Blake, but it's past the point of no return.
Until one day, a woman named Sherry Anne approached Rosalyn.
This book has definitely earned a five-star review from me. It's been a while since I read such a good psychological thriller that I was so impressed. At around 30% into this book, I was like, "No.. Rosalyn, please don't..." and at around 75% of the book, my jaw dropped. The ending was unexpected and not the ending I had in mind. Overall, this book is a hard one to put down and I finished it in two sittings. As soon as I finished this book, I downloaded other books by Carey Baldwin.
I highly recommend it!
Thank you so much @Netgalley and @Bookouture for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Melanie is widowed after tragically losing her husband Philip far too young and his dying wish was for his sister Rosalyn to look after Melanie and ensure she had a happy life, so she introduces her to Blake, who she thinks would be a perfect fit, but alarm bells start to ring when he proposes within a couple of months of their first date and his behaviour becomes very controlling, what is happening to Melanie behind closed doors? Rosalyn is beginning to think she's made a huge mistake bringing them together!
The Widow Bride is a dual timeline narrative which flips back and forth between now and then, with each timeline showcasing different characters but you know, at some point, these two stories will weave together as one and everything will start to make perfect sense. This story is a fast paced read with a great plot and some very unreliable characters, most of whom I didn't trust and, judging by how the story progressed, I was right not to! This is a book that kept me second guessing throughout, with some great twists, but nothing prepared me for that ending. A great read from a new to me author who I will definitely be looking out for in the future.
I'd like to thank Bookouture and Netgalley for the auto approval, I will post my review on Amazon and Goodreads.
Firstly, I would like to thank NetGalley and the publishers for granting me an early copy of this book in return for my honest opinions.
What a read! This book was a roller coaster ride that kept me at the edge of my seat. I literally flew through the pages. There sorry gripped me from the very beginning and kept me riveted till the end. I mean, even the epilogue brought a new twist.
I believe this book shines because of its plot, although the characters are well nuanced. Each twist brought my jaw closer to the ground and at the end my mind was completely blown.
There are certain dark themes in this book, such as marital violence, cons, and a little bit of gore towards the end. However, these, in small amounts, make a thriller more interesting for me, so I happily consumed such dark themes. What made the story impactful was that goodness shone through the darkness.
By the middle of the book I thought that the mystery element of the book was over and only the thrill was to continue, but i was proven so very wrong! I loved the amazing twists at the end, though the main twist was deductible for me a little way back. This book turned out to be one I can happily categorise as a psychological thriller. I would recommend this one to all thriller lovers. This one is sure to be one of my favourite reads this year.
What a ride!
Once I got past the first few chapters, the book really picked up and I found myself enjoying it a lot. I had been in a bit of a reading slump since the end of my Frieda McFadden phase, but this book helped me break out of it. The plot had several twists and turns that kept me engaged, and I found myself constantly questioning what I thought I knew. The final twist was a complete surprise, and that's exactly what I love in a good psychological thriller - I want to be kept guessing until the end. This was my first book by this author, but I'm definitely interested in reading more of their work.
If you enjoy a good psychological thriller with twists and turns, go ahead a snag your copy of The Widow Bride!
Thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture, and the Author for allowing me to read this story.
