The Next Mrs. Parrish by Liv Constantine was the sequel to the best selling The Last Mrs. Parrish.
The story started with Amber finding a way to get out of her marriage with Jackson while he was in jail for tax evasion away. Daphne is struggling with her older daughter who is having a hard time being away from her Dad. Amber is working out a way to get her payday and freedom. Daphne is trying to make her daughters happy.
A new character, Daisy Ann is added to the mix who brings up secrets from the past.
This book was a little repetitive and slow but overall entertaining.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC of this book.
I loved coming back to these characters after the events of the first book, and meeting the new characters in this story. Sequels don't always hold up to the original, but this one was just as much fun as the first.
Loved this! I'm a huge Liv Constantine fan and The Last Mrs. Parrish is one of my favorites. I had high expectations for this book and it definitely delivered. Binged it in two days!
The character development is on another level. Loved delving deeper into the minds of both Daphne and Amber. Loved the introduction of Daisy Ann, and the delightful new layer of drama she brought. Of course Jackson is still around and more toxic than ever!
This book was well-paced and entertaining throughout. LOTS of unexpected twists. The ending brought a satisfying level of closure to the saga, which makes me think this is the final book. But I’d read a third installment if I'm being honest. Loved!
4.3 rounded down to 4.
I read The Last Mrs. Parrish back in 2018 so to be completely fair I didn't remember much of the book going into book 2. I felt like the first couple of chapters moved a little slow but from there I was completely drawn in up until the end. Just when I thought I knew what was going to take place, the novel shifted. Overall, I'm glad the authors made a book 2. It was enjoyable catching up with the characters and reading how they evolved.
Thank you NetGalley for the advanced copy in return for an honest review. Review posted on Goodreads and Amazon.

Thanks to Netgalley and Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine for the E-Arc. Well, well, well looks like the sister have done it again and somehow managed to outsmart me and keep me sitting on the edge of my seat while reading yet another one of their books. Amber, Jackson, and Daphne are back and the rollercoaster is still going strong. At one very good point I literally threw my phone down and said are you effin kidding me right now. I cant with this. I will say this is the only book that I will accept that had a sort of cliff because it just makes me think that another one might come.
A really good follow up. Loved the addition of the new characters and the ending. Glad Daphne got a happy ending.
It has been a few years since I’ve read the first book and short story about Amber Patterson. This book did not disappoint and had well written twists. I would recommend rereading the original and the short story before engaging in this one.
This was a great sequel to the first highly popular book. Loved the introduction of a new character and the twists surrounding them as well. Mr Parrish is simply not it haha! I felt the story was just the perfect amount of length, not too long but not too short. It does make me wonder if there will be another one though 👀 I feel like there could be but where could the author take it from here? Bum bum bum…
I don’t exactly remember what happened in Liv Constantine’s 2017 smash hit bestseller The Last Mrs. Parrish, but I remember how it made me feel. That would be utterly compelled to keep reading in shock. Naturally, when you hear that the Constantine sisters have written a sequel to their wildly popular first novel, the expectations are high. However, as much as it pains me to say it, The Next Mrs. Parrish fails to live up to everything that made its predecessor so great.
Written nearly 10 years ago when women’s suspense thrillers were in their prime, The Last Mrs. Parrish provided something fresh, shocking, and of course, twisty to the genre, catching readers off guard and dropping jaws everywhere. As more and more readers have become accustomed to the thrill of what a suspense novel can do, and more often than not, actually does (that would be pull the wool over readers’ eyes), enthusiasts devour novels on high alert, looking for anything that might be astray and lead to a twist. Authors are now presented with the challenge of writing books that are exceptionally clever and crafty to deceive clued in readers who have become adept at guessing every twist and turn.
Unfortunately, this trend has also given rise to ever more outlandish stories with characters who are over-the-top dramatic and caricatures of what the genre used to deliver so well. The Next Mrs. Parrish is no exception. This story is so grossly exaggerated and theatrical, it is difficult to take it seriously. Nearly all of the characters are villainous and their actions are cartoonish, making this book feel almost like a parody of its forebearer.
The Last Mrs. Parrish is most certainly stronger when it stands on its own, as, ironically, the women at the center of this series discover about themselves. Nonetheless, its pesky little sister, The Next Mrs. Parrish does exist and isn’t entirely a waste of your time. If you enjoy suspense novels that are in your-face outrageous and take things to the extreme, you may verifiably find this book to be entertaining. However, if you prefer something a bit more subtle and nuanced with varying shades of grey, this book may be a miss for you, as it was for me.
BOOK REVIEW ALERT – Review, Recommendation, Rating & Opinion are my own.
This book is a gripping sequel to the thriller “The Last Mrs. Parrish.” This new installment delves deeper into the twisted world of the Parrish family, bringing fresh intrigue, dark secrets, and unexpected twists that will keep readers on the edge of their seats.
Picking up from where “The Last Mrs. Parrish” left off, “The Next Mrs. Parrish” continues the saga of the enigmatic and wealthy Parrish family. Amber Patterson, whose calculated schemes upended the Parrish family’s lives in the previous book, now faces the repercussions of her actions. The story introduces a new protagonist, Claire, who enters the Parrish world under mysterious circumstances.
Claire’s arrival triggers a series of events that reveal more about the dark underbelly of the Parrish’s glamorous life. As she gets closer to Jackson Parrish, she unearths secrets that could destroy them all. Claire’s motives are ambiguous, and readers are kept guessing about her true intentions throughout the novel.
Rating – 4.0/5 Stars
Recommendation – High
The Author’s writing is as captivating as ever, with sharp prose and a knack for building tension. The alternating perspectives provide a comprehensive view of the unfolding drama, keeping readers hooked from start to finish. The pacing is well-balanced, with carefully placed twists that enhance the suspense.
This is a worthy sequel that delivers on the promise of its predecessor. Liv Constantine masterfully weaves a tale of intrigue and deception, making it a must-read for fans of psychological thrillers. The novel’s complex characters, intricate plot, and unexpected twists make it a compelling addition to the Parrish saga.
I have been a fan of Liv Constantine (well the two of the co-authors) for quite a few years now. But I was very disappointed in this book and DNF. For those o who have not read The Last Mrs. Parrish, they may find this book a psychological thriller that they will enjoy, I found it going over old ground and it just did not keep my interest. I didn't want to continue to read about how horrible Mr. Parrish was and the various ways he chose to psychological abuse his wife(ves). Having said that, I do recommend for all public libraries.
Loved this book of Mrs.Parrish. You never know what might happen in a marriage. This one full of surprise and spiteful women. I really enjoyed both this books.
Let me start by saying I read the first book and I remember liking it - but it was a few years ago so the details were fuzzy. That being said, I do think you could read this book as a standalone because it mentions things that happened in the past often enough that you can catch what is going on.
I do think that reading the first book right before this one would help to stay engaged. At first I was slightly bored due to not remembering what was going on and re-learning the characters.
There were past characters and some fun new ones. I enjoyed the new storyline and the little deceitful twists and the satisfying outcome of the characters.
Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine for granting me the opportunity to read this for an honest review.
While I did not enjoy this sequel as much as the original, it was still good. I’m not sure how realistic the plot line is- who would willingly actually go back- but the end was nicely wrapped up.
The Next Mrs. Parrish
I still remember reading The Last Mrs. Parrish years ago and thinking how smart it was. I liked The Next Mrs Parrish but struggled with some of the implausible storylines and using the children as a means to an evil end.
While it seems a bit predictable at the beginning, I was surprised by the twists at the end. The addition of a new character in Daisy Ann ups the ante and adds something fresh to the main storyline which is very similar to the first book.
The Last Mrs. Parrish is the kind of book you can binge over a long weekend; short chapters and some action to keep the plot moving.
Whoa… This book one of those books I physically felt while reading. Drama, drama, drama, and many twists and turns. This one will have you fuming, trembling, and cheering depending on the page you’re on. Don’t miss this page turner. It is one wild ride you’ll have a hard time putting down!
3 stars bc I finished. Probably more like 2.75. Too many unlikeable characters amd didn't really care about any of them. And even though the stories came together I thought it was disjointed and too much going on. Almost dnf'd a couple of times but skimmed through the end.
Thank you so much NetGalley for the arc of the next Mrs Parrish. I loved the cat & mouse chase feel of this next part of the Daphne/Jackson/Amber saga.
4/5 Stars
To me Liv Constantine knows how to write a book! I loved the Last Mrs. Parrish so I knew this one would be right up there as a fabulous read.
Daphne and Ambers lives are about to collide again. Daphne has done everything she can to stay as far away as possible from Bishops Harbor until one of their daughters runs away and she has no choice but to spend the summer at the place she despises the most. Daphne and Amber soon pair up when one of Ambers past ghosts re appears in their lives. Who’s telling the truth and who is playing who? This book has twists and turns that make you not want to put it down.
Looking for a physiological thriller, this is it!
I loved The Last Mrs. Parrish and had such high hopes for this novel. The unexpected twists kept me turning the pages, but I did not find that to be the case with The Next Mrs. Parrish.
The story is told from varying character's perspectives. As such, each chapter had a different tone or feel to it, which made sense, but also made the novel seem a bit disjointed to me. I had trouble being interested in some of the characters as a result of this. There was plotting and drama galore, but it made me care even less about the characters. I had a hard time getting in to the novel and so it took me longer to finish than I expected.
Additionally, there was no great twist here--the twist that came was sort of....oh...that's it? I was expecting more based on my previous experience with Constantine's novels.
All this being said, it was a relatively easy read, just the kind of thing you want for summer vacation.
Thank you to the publisher and #NetGalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
