An easy 5 ⭐ read! Although this book is heavy, it is so so good. Such an underrated series that I wish more people knew about.
I'm sure I am one of the millions of readers who have been eagerly awaiting a new Liv Constantine novel and The Next Mrs. Parrish didn’t disappoint. I loved every page of this sequel to their best-selling novel, The Last Mrs. Parrish.
It had been so long, and I’ve read so many books since the first Mrs. Parrish book came out, that reading this was like reading a standalone novel.
It was as great as I hoped and the reviews are all positive! If you haven't read it, what are you waiting for?
Amber Patterson Parrish has come a long way. Hard work and immaculate planning turned her from invisible wallflower to prominent socialite, though there have been bumps along the way. Less than a year after her husband Jackson’s tax-evasion scandal, Amber reigns supreme over the Bishops Harbor community. But with Jackson being released from prison, Amber’s free time — and money — is vanishing.
Meanwhile, Daphne Parrish left Bishops Harbor after her divorce from Jackson, swearing she would never go back. But when one of her daughters runs away from home, desperate to see her father, Daphne agrees to return for the summer for their daughters’ sake. Jackson swears he’s a changed man, but Daphne knows all too well that he can’t be trusted.
When a ghost from Amber’s past emerges looking for revenge, these three figures find unlikely allies in one another. But who is playing who? When all is said and done, they’ll have to fight tooth and nail for everything they have left in this zero-sum game.
In The Last Mrs. Parrish, Amber was able to claw her way to become Jackson Parrish's wife. While Jackson has been serving time for tax evasion, Amber has enjoyed being the queen bee of Bishops Harbor. With Jackson's release from prison imminent, Amber's time and money is running out. Meanwhile, Daphne has never looked back after divorcing Jackson. But when her daughter runs away desperate to see Jackson, Daphne must return to Bishops Harbor and reenter a vicious cat-and-mouse game.
I wasn't the biggest fan of The Last Mrs. Parrish and wasn't sure if it really needed a sequel. Now I can soundly proclaim that it didn't. The Next Mrs. Parrish was an unnecessary return to Bishops Harbor whose premise hinged on Daphne making the most idiotic decision to voluntarily return to Jackson's life. Having escaped Jackson and Amber's psychotic behavior, I cannot believe she would ever go back. From there, the current book felt much like the last one, though all the villains get a proper comeuppance this time.
I never knew how much i needed a sequel until i read this. First of all, Amber at this point is beyond redemption. Who’s worse, her or Jaxson? This was so good, especially that ending. Spoiler alert: they got everything coming to them. I’m so glad i received this arc!
Btw the audiobook was perfect to go with the ebook. And the voice narrator for Jaxson was chefs kiss.
I LOVED the Last Mrs. Parrish, and this sequel did not disappoint!! It started out a bit slow, but the second half of the book had me gasping out loud while I was reading, it was so twisty and good! Daphne had SUCH great character development and I loved the prominent role Daisy Ann played in this one. Amber was her same, twisted self. Overall, this was just such a good, twisty, fun read that I could not put down.
I would say you definitely need to read the first book to understand this one. It was SUCH a good sequel!!
Thanks to Netgalley for the advanced copy to read.
The flair of writing and residing in the sphere where ‘flow’ is a stream you can always plunge in far from reality. The desperation to complete the book with the obstacle of a writer’s block can push you into the zone where you are so consumed you are lost in the world you created in your mind.
With every challenge bringing more excitement and the zest to capture the best of the present time, this book explores a whole other level of passion and zeal. Witness the rise of a ravishing creator as she nurtures the soul.
This book is slow to start but then you cannot put it down! I would suggest reading both the first and pre book before reading this book. A great read!!
Sociopathy vs Psychopathy vs Revenge. If the first "Mrs Parrish" book was a study in psycopathy vs sociopathy with a "normal" person caught in the middle - and it was -, this one is in some ways more of the same, but with the added twist of adding a new character who is just as cunning as both the sociopath and the psychopath, but a more 'normal' person with the added motivation of pure revenge.
Thus, the action tends to be just as despicable here as in the first book, and for that reason many who did not like the first one may in fact not like this one either - so if that is you, seriously, just spare the author the 1* review and skip this one.
But for those who are willing to endure the despicable acts knowing that this book *is* more revenge focused and *does* have some significant (and seeming conclusive, for at least some of the players involved) payoffs... this book is actually quite delicious. Where the first one was more slow and methodical, this one almost seems like a director who has only now learned about quick scene cutting, particularly relative to just how slow the first book was. Almost like an old school, plodding, hours long chess match... and then the next match is over in a brilliant storm of lightning. Not one that will necessarily leave you breathless, but absolutely one where you begin to wonder just how much you've seen and how fast you've seen it. Particularly, again, after the utterly glacial pace of the first book.
Whereas the first book had almost no redeemable qualities about almost none of the characters, here we do get to have a bit more sympathy for at least some of the characters, and that alone will make this book better than the first one for some readers - but you absolutely have to read the first book to be able to fully understand this book.
Ultimately, this was truly well done, and some parts of the ending were truly delicious indeed given all that had happened to that point.
Very much recommended.
I read the 1st Mrs. Parrish books a few weeks ago. I read it because I was excited to read the 2nd one and wanted to read the 1st one first, you know. I’m a big believer in reading all the books in the series if you have an eye on a book that’s not the first one in a series.
I loved the 1st one.
This one? I struggled with it. Struggled hard. I wasn’t ready to give up – I tried going back to it several times. Now I’m stuck at 30% and… yeah. I have given up. I’m not sure if it’s me of if it’s the book. I can’t. I just can’t. It’s not sucking me in. I’m not hooked. I’m not interested. It feels… boring? It has been a really long time since I was actually bored by a book. This book somehow did it for me. Bored me into oblivion.
I’m not deleting it from my Kindle though. I’m willing to give it one more chance. Someday. Maybe. Maybe, that’s a very vague maybe.
Oh well. You can’t love ALL the books, right?
3.5 ⭐️’s
Daphne and Amber return in this sequel to The Last Mrs. Parrish. Amber Parrish has come a long way in her young life. Finally reaching the prominent socialite status she so knifed everyone in the back to attain, she looks like she’s living the dream, but with her husband still in prison for tax evasion, she’s quickly running out of money. Not to worry, Amber is conniving as always and has a plan, a plan to leave Jackson high and dry, but she needs to be quick about it because once Jackson is out of jail she’ll have nowhere to turn. Daphne (the last Mrs. Parrish) has moved away and never wants to darken the door of Bishops Harbor again, but when her daughter runs away to meet up with her recently released father, Daphne has to rethink her position. When she decides to visit for the summer, Jackson immediately wants to reconnect and start over, but with his past history Daphne doesn’t believe a word he’s saying. Threatening to take the girls away from her, Daphne soon falls prey to his schemes, but in this cat and mouse tale, no one is who they seem and when an enemy from Amber’s past shows up the stakes are even higher, and the con game notches up to a higher level, but will the good outweigh the evil or will the evil win out in the end? This was an entertaining read, but far from realistic, but the ending does make up for it and will leave you completely satisfied. Thank you to Bantam and NetGalley for an ARC of this book.
Amber Patterson Parrish is preparing for the homecoming of Jackson who has served eight months at Camp Fed for shady accounts. But Amber doesn’t plan to stick around much longer than to say hello. She was finally reaching the pinnacle of Bishop Harbor Society when Jackson went to jail. She has decided to leave Jackson, and their son, taking the millions of dollars she’s stolen from Jackson during his incarceration. When she stumbles upon an unknown stash of jewels, she feels like she is set for a life of privilege and money to which she has become accustomed in her very short marriage.
Meanwhile, Jackson is heart set on reuniting with Daphne, his ex-wife and has plans to bring his children back together under one roof. His ideas about how that needs to be done involve Amber‘s assistance, and then he’ll let her go. Or so he says. Daphne, on the other hand has zero desire to reunite with Jackson but does hope that all of the children can form bonds with each other. Along with Jackson, Junior age 2, Daphne has custody of Bella and Tallulah, Jackson’s daughters.
Along the way we also meet Daisy Anne Briscoe, a very wealthy jewelry designer from Dallas. When she crosses paths with Amber, she calls her a murderer and re-ignites her investigation into Amber. Putting her marriage on the line, she does everything she can to try to prove that Amber was responsible for her father‘s death and should go to jail.
This one had me hooked from page one. As always the writing was clear and concise and grabbed me by the throat, not letting up until the final page. I could feel myself in the opulence of Amber‘s surroundings and the quiet serenity of Daphne‘s life. Everyone of importance in this one had a need to avenge situations from the past and all will eventually get what’s coming to them. I can’t wait to see where the authors take me next.
I've been putting off writing this review but I guess it's time, I'm just so sad! I loved the first book when I read it years ago so writing this review hurts right now, but this book just wasn't for me. I think the hardest part of this book was that not a single character had redeeming qualities - Amber is a sociopath, Jackson is just an awful human and Daphne was overly pathetic. She was a little pathetic in the first book too but nothing to this extreme - she also swung in at the end of the book with this master plan she executed, so that shed a whole new light on her. I feel as though this book completely undid all of that good work she did in the first! She was just SO dumb and I caught myself rolling my eyes a lot. Daphne made one terrible decision after another and only got out of the bad situation thanks to a fortunate consequence of Jackson's (or shall I say, Amber's) actions. I kept waiting for her to save herself but nope. I wanted to love this one but it sadly didn't work for me.
The Last Mrs. Parrish is one of my favorites so I couldn’t wait to read this one!
You need to read the first book to know what’s doing on in this one. This time around Jackson, Daphne and Amber are back. Amber is just as greedy and conniving, and Jackson is still a controlling ass. We’re also introduced to Daisy- Ann, a wealthy woman who wants to get justice for her dead father.
The book is told via the three POV’s of the women – Daphne, Amber and Daisy-Ann. The plot is clever and fast paced, and I love how their stories intertwined. It was a bingeable read with some twists I wasn’t expecting. The ending was perfect with everything wrapped and each character got what they deserved.
Did The Last Mrs. Parrish need a sequel? No, but I was pleasantly surprised with this one!
I was so excited to read this as I loved the first book! Sadly this one did not excite me and I often found myself a bit bored. It was still overall a good book, but didn’t love as much. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you Liv Constantine, and Netgalley, for the e-arc. This review is left voluntarily and all opinions are my own.
This was a relatively fast & easy read with the same old characters from the first book - and some new!
I really enjoyed reading all of the different POVs, and seeing how they connected in the end.
The end of the last book and the novella make you feel sorry for Amber and you almost forget how awful she was. And then this book comes along… This book is a thrill ride that will keep you guessing until the very end, with so many twists and turns that half the time I wasn’t sure who was on whose side, an absolute fitting ending and the potential to maybe see these characters one last time.
Now, it has been YEARS since I read The Last Mrs. Parrish, so I was worried I would have no clue what was going on. THANK GOODNESS Liv did a great job reminding us in snippets throughout the book. This was a quick, fast paced thriller that will hold your attention. I have no doubts about that! Amber and Jackson are back to their shenanigans trying to manipulate each other and take each other down. Daphne is back, and wants nothing to do with Jackson, but he has other plans. Daisy Ann is introduced and her character seamlessly wound into the story. The ending? Pure perfection! My jaw dropped and I was screaming inside YESSS!!!!!
This book was fast paced, twisty and entertaining. A perfect example of a popcorn mystery to me! I loved the way the authors built up suspense through the point of view of each character, and seamlessly brought them together, tied with a big ol' satisfying bow!
Well that was a fantastic sequel! I really enjoyed it. Dare I say even more than the first book!!? Perhaps
All I wanna say is that Amber and Jackson are the absolute worst humans!
4stars!
First, special thanks to Random House Publishing via Netgalley and PRH Audio for the complimentary copies. I am absolutely grateful!
I love the first book-The Last Mrs.Parrish and I was so excited to get my hands on this! The start was a little slow to my liking but, I can understand the elaborate build-up of the back story as well as character development and with that said, The Next Mrs.Parrish can be read as a stand-alone.
This is quite intense and I salute Liv Constantine’s brilliant work because it left me catching my breath several times. When the events, the story line and the character’s actions drive my emotions to levels where I need a reminder that this is just fiction and not reality!!! Well, that is a work of art for a very well written suspense story. The expectation of the genre was effectively delivered.
I was furious with Amber and Jackson and everybody else that was mean to the core! They were evil and I was annoyed to the nth level. As for the twist, - aha! It was glorious and the ending was spectacular!
A star off from the rating because there were redundancy to the dialogues, the reminders of past events and the going back and forth of Daphne’s reasoning. Yet again, not a deal breaker whatsoever because in a manner of speaking, it did help build the anticipation.
So, there you go! I love this book and I highly recommend it.
