Mrs. Parrish is back and Liv Constantine gives us a solid follow up to everyone's favorite thriller from 2017!
When I saw this sequel was releasing this year, I knew I had to get it in my hands, so I was super excited (and shocked) when I was approved for an advanced copy and would have the opportunity to read it sooner rather than later.
I tried to keep my excitement and my expectations in check though, because you know how common it can be to be disappointed when it comes to sequels, especially when the first book is held in such high regards. However, I'm happy to say that this was not the case for myself! I very much enjoyed this sequel and I feel the majority of readers will feel the same!
I loved the route the authors took with this book. It keeps you on your toes and guessing throughout. My blood pressure was up at times from frustration at what was happening, but also because I was rooting for Daisy Ann and Daphne.
I would recommend reading the prequel before this book if you have the opportunity. You don't necessarily have to, because the authors do a great job of filling you in with this book. But I think it made the story more enjoyable for myself, because I did know the backstory before diving into this book. It's a quick read and will help jump-start you when picking this one up. I'd highly recommend this book and think it's going to be the thriller of the summer.
**Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me an advanced copy of this book and in return I am submitting my unbiased and voluntary review and opinion. I am posting this review to my Goodreads account immediately and will post it to my Amazon & Instagram accounts upon publication.
Much like The Last Mrs. Parrish I loved this book but also couldn’t wait to finish it! So anxiety and rage inducing! I can read about serial killers and torture all day long but there is something about this pure evil, power/money hungry, sociopathic ways of these characters that is just so hard to read! I guess that says a lot about how great the writing is. It amazes me how low these people would go for money and power. I loved it and definitely recommend.
I loved the fact that I was able to see these characters again! The multiple-person point of view allowed this book to be read at a fast pace and kept me on my toes!
I felt like book 2 wasn’t necessarily needed. It was okay, but I did actually enjoy the first one! If you like The Housemaid, it is very similar. However, I felt the same with that series as well, and only read book 1 and will probably stop there. Sometimes we just don’t need a sequel!
We pick back up with con-artist, Amber, who married Jackson Parrish in book 1. Jackson has almost completed 7 months in jail for tax evasion. Before he gets out, Amber plans on stealing whatever money he has left, leaving him their son, and fleeing the country.
But when Jackson surprises Amber with an early release, he forces her to split the money and help him get Daphne back.
Daphne is Jackson’s ex wife from book 1. She took their daughters and moved across the country to CA. Her kids have been begging to see their dad so Daphne agrees to a summer house back in Bishops Harbor so they can spend time with him, but only under certain conditions.
Now we enter a new character, Daisy Ann, who knows all about Amber’s dark past and will do anything to expose her.
Pub day for The Next Mrs. Parrish is June 18th!
Thank you @netgalley and @randomhouse for this early copy in exchange for a review!
I was surprised when I saw there would be a sequel to The Last Mrs. Parrish but thought, interesting. Unfortunately, this book was really a pale imitation. It was so incredulous that I just found myself wanting the book to be over already. This was a quick read but I'm not sure any of these characters deserve to ever be written of again . . . hope you have better luck!
The Next Mrs. Parrish comes out next month on June 18, 2024, and you can purchase HERE.
Although she and Mason often joked about his mother's eccentricities and her adherence to strict social protocol, Daisy Ann loved and respected her mother-in-law. Underneath Birdie's commanding and grand exterior was a warm and empathic woman who was able to make anyone feel comfortable. And despite the fact that she wanted things a certain way, she had a charisma that drew people to her. How often had Daisy Ann heard her say, Charm is making the person you're talking to feel like the only person in the room.
Thank you to @Netgalley and Bantam for the eARC! Thank you to @PRHaudio for the gifted audiobook!
The Last Mrs.Parrish was one of the first novels I read when I got back into reading in 2022 and I loved it: the twists, the darkness, the scheming. It was tantalizing interesting with such a satisfying ending. Then came the prequel novella: The First Shot. This was also so intriguing, Amber is a character you love to hate, and utterly compelling.
The Next Mrs.Parrish leaves no stone unturned as it picks up story threads from both the original novel and the prequel novella for an all-together satisfying conclusion to the series (I think? Who knows what Liv Constantine are planning!). While this can be read as a standalone, I highly recommend reading both The Last Mrs.Parrish and The First Shot.
This novel has three POVs: Daphne (our heroine who is trying to cope with the trauma she endured and raise her daughters), Amber (with the same all for one and one is me attitude and no maternal bond with her son), and Daisy Mae, a minor character from The First Shot (determined to make Amber pay for her crimes). I’ll be honest in saying that I didn’t think another story was needed for these characters, however I’m happy to be proven wrong. Once things fell into place this was gripping and at times nauseating (I felt for Daphne, so much), I loved the audio - it’s always helpful to have separate narrators for multiple POVs and it enriched the story so much in this instance. If you were a fan of the original novel, I highly recommend this - just be sure to read the novella as well to get the full effect!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for the advanced copy. The Next Mrs.Parrish is a fast paced thriller that takes place two years after the previous book. The three main characters are Daphne, Amber, and Daisy Ann. Daphne returns to Bishops Harbor to allow her daughters to have a relationship with their father, Jackson. Amber is scheming to leave Jackson and their son Jax. Daisy Ann is determined to get revenge on Amber for the death of her father. At first I wasn’t quite sure how Daisy Ann would fit into the storyline, but the authors did a great job of tying everything together. The ending was very satisfying.
Overall, this was a really good sequel to The Last Mrs. Parrish and I enjoyed it!
Daphne Parrish and her two daughters are living in California while her ex-husband Jackson serves a prison sentence and his new wife Amber is plotting to take his money and run before he gets released. When Jackson is let out on early-release, both Daphne and Amber find themselves once again caught up in Jackson's manipulative universe. Jackson is not ready to let Daphne go quite yet, and Amber finds she may have finally met her con-artist match in her new husband.
With every chapter, you find out that appearances aren't what they seem, and everyone is on their own mission. While it may not have been as thrilling as the first book, I still think The Next Mrs. Parrish was a solid follow-up! Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine for this digital ARC. This will definitely be one of the summer's popular titles!
I loved the first Mrs, Parrish from 2017. So I was surprised there was going to be a second one 7 years later. Didn’t remember the details though, but the author did a good job catching us back up. Of course it’s isn’t as good as the first one in the series (they never are), but still a great read. If you like domestic/psychological thrillers, you will need to add this one to your list. Thank you to NetGalley, author, and publishers for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
Thriller readers will enjoy this, as well as those who enjoyed TLMP. It's been 7 years since the first so I think readers will enjoy coming back to this world created by Liv Constantine. Full review via Goodreads linked below :)
The Next Mrs. Parrish is a soapy, twisty, unputdownable sequel.
The Last Mrs. Parrish had a satisfying twist ending. It felt like a fitting place to end Daphne and Amber's respective stories. However, The Next Mrs. Parrish ended up surprising me. Liv Constantine found an intriguing way to layer the characters' continuing stories. This psychological thriller adds depth to the intrigue of its predecessor.
The Next Mrs. Parrish picks up not long after the first book ended. Amber Patterson Parrish is running out of time and money as her husband's prison sentence comes to an end. Meanwhile, Jackson's first wife Daphne is enjoying her newfound freedom until an unforeseen circumstance sends her back to Bishops Harbor. But Daphne isn't all Amber has to worry about. Amber's past is closing in on her. Never one to go down without a fight, Amber uses every trick in her arsenal to keep the life she's built at any cost.
The triple POVs of Amber, Daphne, and Daisy Ann were a good device to drive the story. Each POV felt like a fresh perspective, so it was easy to keep the characters and their winding storylines separate. While the introduction of a new character can feel jarring, Daisy Ann fits right in. Her storyline complemented Amber and Daphne's stories in ways that made sense at the end of the story.
The story thematically reads like a high-stakes, cat-and-mouse-style thriller. The twists were surprising. While some thrillers can become predictable, especially in a sequel where the readers know the characters well, the authors found ways to keep the reader in the dark. There was so much double-dealing and double-crossing that I didn't know who would come out on top at the end.
The writing duo behind Liv Constantine knows how to keep suspense building. They know how to write compelling heroes and villains. The dialogue and plot moved at a fast pace, making it easy to devour the novel in a short amount of time. The ending felt satisfying but also left the door open for another installment.
The Next Mrs. Parrish is the perfect fast-paced thriller for your beach bag this summer.
Thank you to NetGalley, Random House Publishing Group, and Liv Constantine for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for an early copy of this book! This book was your classic rich privileged white people trying to sabotage each other and get revenge kind of story. I found it enjoyable and entertaining. This was a quick read and engaging throughout. I appreciated the POV switches and was intrigued by each of the storylines. I felt this was a good companion to the 1st book.
Two + years later…. Daphne and her girls are enjoying a simple life in California, free of Jackson’s power until Daphne’s older daughter runs away in an attempt to go see her father, who was just released from prison. Afraid of losing the relationship she has with her daughter, she reluctantly agrees to spend the summer in Connecticut so the girls can see their dad. Daphne hopes to avoid getting caught up in any drama with Jackson and Amber, but quickly finds that is easier said than done.

I absolutely devoured The Last Mrs. Parish and now…. The B*tch is back! Amber, the girl we all love to hate, hasn’t changed a bit and is up to new schemes. I found this book to be fast paced between the short chapters and alternating POVs, I could not put it down. Our MCs from the first book have returned, as well as the addition of Daisy Ann, who has a vendetta against Amber, because who doesn’t! The cat and mouse game of who can outsmart who really had me on the edge of my seat until the very end. Although I enjoyed the major twist of book #1, this one seemed to have never ending suspense that kept me asking what could possibly happen next!?
I also recommend reading the short story The First Shot before reading this one. It’s a prequel to The Last Mrs. Parrish. But it ties into this one in a big way, as it gives context into how Amber came to be who she is and the history between her and Daisy Ann.
Fantastic read! Perfect for a summer weekend. I enjoyed the plot twists and turns. Perfect book 2. You could easily read this without reading The Last Mrs. Parrish. Very impressed with this book!
I absolutely loved the Last Mrs. Parrish and was delighted to get this ARC from #NetGalley. It took me a bit to remember the story and the characters and felt like the author(s) could have given a bit more "back story" to get us caught up. That being said, the awful characters started back with their awful behaviors and I loved every minute of it. Even when you were sure that one of the schemes might not "work" there was another twist around the corner. The end was extremely satisfying. Really enjoyed this!!
8/10
Thriller
This is book 2 of the Mrs. Parrish series. Wow. In book 1 Amber is going after the very wealthy and very married Jackson Parrish. Literally is no one who you think they are in either book. There are new characters introduced in the second book, better backstory, and incredible closure.

So good! I think I liked the sequel better than the first one! Jackson is a monster and I kept waiting for karma to get him. I was pleased with the turn of events.
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC!
Daphne, Amber and Jackson are back again in this sequel to The Last Mrs. Parrish. Jackson gets out of prison and returns home to Amber. The lying, backstabbing and betrayal begins again between these characters. This was an entertaining story that had me glued to the pages. Thanks NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group-Ballantine for this eARC that will be released June 18, 2024!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher Bantam for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
First of all this is definitely not a stand alone book make sure you’ve read the first one first. I don’t think you would get as much out of it if you haven’t.
The first half I was rather bored. It was ok but not exciting. The second half was a little better but a bit lackluster. I wanted some shocking twists or something. Overall meh. I think the first one was much better.
If you loved The Last Mrs. Parrish you are going to love The Next Mrs. Parrish. If you haven’t read the first one, where have you been??
With a host of questionable characters, a murderer, a controlling abusive husband and an ex-wife who wants to make things right, this story takes us on a sinister and propulsive ride.
Could there be a better "villainess" than Amber Patterson Parrish, the social climbing second wife of Jackson Parrish. Daphne, wife number one has vowed to never return to Bishop's Harbor and to the world of Jackson, newly released from prison for tax evasion. However, her oldest daughter tries to run away to daddy dearest.
In an attempt to see a supposedly changed Jackson, Daphne decides to take their daughters to Bishop's Corner for the summer to be with their dad where she finds the promised changed Jackson has not changed at all.
Another woman Daisy Anne enters the fray and then it's game on as all of them scheme and try to "get" one another. Will the vile Amber get her due?
Exciting and fun, this story is a quick read and one that will have you scurrying through the pages to find out how all the lives will be resolved or will they?
Thank you to Liv Constantine, Bantan Books, and NetGalley for a copy of this story due out in June.
Highly & enthusiastically recommend!
