Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group-Ballentine for this ARC copy of “The Next Mrs. Parish”
This one fell flat for me. The villains were beyond unrealistic & unfortunately Daphne also made some unrealistic choices. Although it was a quick and easy read, it was too far fetched.
While I enjoyed this story, I gave The Last Mrs. Parrish five stars a few years ago and I can't consciously give this one five stars, as well. So, therefore, four stars. It just wasn't the same! Amber and Jackson were just as wretched this time around. I absolutely LOVE what ended up happening to them. I thought it was so unique and unlike anything I'd read in another book. The addition of Daisy Ann from Amber's past was also really fun.
I HIGHLY recommend rereading the first one if it's been awhile. There were a few things I had to go back and look up because I couldn't remember the finer details. Just for reference I read the first one in January 2019 so it had been awhile!
I was so thrilled to have a sequel to "The Last Mrs. Parrish". And this did not disappoint. I devoured it in a day. I was so glad that this one literally picked up where the first one left off. The way the author writes such unlikeable characters is fabulous. We also meet a new character and her storyline was perfectly intertwined to Amber, Daphne and Jackson. Highly recommend this one. And while you don't HAVE to read the first to understand this one, it definitely would be advised.
"The Next Mrs. Parrish" by Liv Constantine is a psychological thriller that delves into the intricacies of envy, manipulation, and the pursuit of power. With its compelling narrative and well-crafted characters, Constantine weaves a story that keeps readers on the edge of their seats from beginning to end.
The novel follows the story of Amber Patterson, a woman who becomes obsessed with infiltrating the glamorous life of the wealthy and seemingly perfect Parrish family. Her target is Jackson Parrish, a handsome and affluent businessman, and his beautiful wife, Daphne. As Amber insinuates herself into Daphne's life, the lines between reality and fiction blur, and the true extent of her deception becomes shockingly clear.
One of the most intriguing aspects of "The Next Mrs. Parrish" is its exploration of the lengths people will go to in order to achieve their desires. Amber's character is both captivating and repulsive, as readers are drawn into her manipulative schemes while simultaneously recoiling from her morally bankrupt actions. Constantine skillfully portrays the psychology behind Amber's obsession, making her a complex and compelling antagonist.
In addition to Amber, the novel features a cast of well-developed characters, each with their own motivations and secrets. From Daphne, whose seemingly perfect life hides a dark past, to Jackson, who is not as oblivious to Amber's true intentions as she believes, the characters in "The Next Mrs. Parrish" are multi-dimensional and realistic.
Constantine's writing is sharp and evocative, creating a tense atmosphere that keeps readers guessing until the very end. The pacing is brisk, with twists and turns that will leave readers breathless as they race to uncover the truth behind Amber's machinations.
Overall, "The Next Mrs. Parrish" is a gripping and suspenseful novel that will appeal to fans of psychological thrillers. Constantine's expert storytelling and complex characters make for a compelling read that is sure to keep readers turning the pages late into the night.
Thank you netgalley for this copy. This was my third book by the authors .I was so happy to read this sequel.I do feel you need to have read the first in series due to the characters.Reading these books gets my imagination of what is happening in the book.I thought it was well written and had good character flow. They are now my go to authors .
I really enjoyed this sequel to The Last Mrs. Parrish. I'm glad though that I read a review prompting me to read The Last Shot Novella before reading the sequel or else I would have been rather confused. There were a lot of great twists and turns in this story and I enjoyed being able to continue to follow these horrible characters and all of their shenanigans.
I loved The Last Mrs. Parrish, so I was super excited to be selected for an early copy of The Next Mrs.
Parrish. I am a real person leaving a real review. 🙂
The first book wrapped up nicely with no unanswered questions, so I was unsure how Liv Constantine could expand on the story, but the sequel did not disappoint.
This story is told from three POV:
Amber, Jackson Parrish's current wife, who is back with her cunning and deceitful antics.
Daphne, Jackson's ex-wife who comes back to Bishop's Harbor to allow her children to see their father.
Is Jackson a changed man after his prison sentence or is he still a deceitful con?
Then we’re introduced to Daisy Ann and Amber wants everything she has. Who will come out on top?!
The Next Mrs. Parrish definitely met my expectations and is a brilliant sequel to a story that didn't even need one!
🫶 THANK YOU Random House, NetGalley and Liv Constantine for the chance to read this ARC.
I really liked the Last Mrs Parrish so I was intrigued to read the new one because the first book seemed to have completed the story and I found the end really satisfying. While I think the first book would have been better without a second, the second book was a quick and fun read.
Overall if you liked the first I think you will enjoy this one too. It felt slower to me than the first but does pick up around halfway through. There were a few fun twists but overall it felt more straightforward than the first book. The ending worked for this one and I don’t think we will be getting a third.
I don’t love the author’s writing and find it cheesy at times but it works fine for this type of book. I did notice it throughout and at times rolled my eyes a bit.
Thank you NetGalley for the arc in exchange for my honest review.
Loved being reunited with these characters!! Was the book necessary? Probably not. But Liv Constantine is an automatic read for me and I loved that the author knew how much we loved the original book and brought the cast of characters back. The ending was exactly what we all wanted and needed! Can’t wait for my friends to read this one.
Wow! Liv Constantine does it again. I will say it’s helpful to have just read or reread The Last Mrs. Parrish- but not necessary. Everyone’s up to their same antics in this story, and I love the little surprises we get along the way. At times I was wishing Daphne got wise, but overall no complaints! Thanks Netgalley for my copy
I hate to say this but I feel like maybe we should have stopped after the first book? I can’t pinpoint anything wrong or bad so it might just be me. I also have so many friends that have really enjoyed this read! I appreciate these characters and I appreciate what the author was trying to do but the entire time I just felt like it wasn’t necessary.
Title: The Next Mrs. Parrish by Liv Constantine.
Rating: 4.5 stars
In this highly anticipated sequel, the sisters masterfully craft a tale that left me on the edge of my seat, eagerly turning pages until the very end. From start to finish, the tension is palpable, drawing me reluctantly deeper into a web of deceit, manipulation, and psychological turmoil.
One of the most impressive aspects of this book is the sister's ability to create complex and morally ambiguous characters. The male main character (MMC) is the most despicable figure (could I hate a fictional character more?!), whose manipulative nature is both infuriating and captivating. Despite knowing his true colors, the female main character (FMC) finds herself ensnared in his web, a testament to the sister's skill in creating believable and compelling relationships. It's absolutely anxiety inducing. I had to take breaks, just to keep my heart rate down and my temper in check.
The plot twists and turns with expert precision, keeping me guessing until the very end. I had to continually look at my progress, just to see if the story was really going to keep going without a resolution or if I could relax because the end was coming! And while the resolution of the story provides satisfying closure, the open-ended possibility of another book adds an extra layer of excitement and anticipation.
Overall, this book was great, and worth the wait to go back to Bishop's Harbor. With its tension-filled narrative, morally complex characters, and expertly executed twists, it's no wonder this book earns a solid 4.5 stars. Fans of the first Mrs. Parrish will not be disappointed by this gripping sequel.
This will probably be my favorite thriller of the year. Up until I read this the first of this series The Last Mrs. Parrish was my favorite thriller. I was worried to read this in case it did not measure up.
I was blown away. The authors stunned me as much as they did the first time. I gasped out loud multiple times in this book.
Such a great read!! Thank you NetGalley for this advanced copy!
This is the sequel to the very popular THE LAST MRS. PARRISH. I typically don’t enjoy sequels but I have to say that I liked this one. Amber is the kind of antagonist that you will really hate but also at the same time, you want to explore her deep, dark history. I feel like her background story could have even gone darker though. I like that they added more characters as this will make a good segue for part 3 which I think there will be one. I truly enjoy Liv Constantine’s writing and I will continue to support whatever they out out. Please do reach the first book so you can fully appreciate this one!
I was incredibly excited to read The Next Mrs Parrish after loving the first book. However, there were too many storylines going on and it felt as though none of them were truly developed. I also did not like that some of the chapters were written in first person and some were in third, which made it hard to follow. I enjoyed re-visiting the characters from the first book, but this book fell short for me.
So much deception, manipulation, and evil!! The Next Mrs. Parrish oozes with slimy characters constantly scheming with greedy maneuvers. Good to see justice prevail - or so we think - until the surprising end….
Thanks to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group - Ballentine for the opportunity to read this ARC.
I’m so torn on what to rate this one! On the one hand, I felt the first 2/3 of the book were slow. It was obvious that the authors were building to something big, but it just felt like it was taking a while to get there. And I felt SUCH anxiety reading this! The whole child manipulation aspect just got to me. I was so frustrated by Daphne and some of the decisions she made and I just wanted to throw the book across the room. All that said the last 3rd of the book was excellent. Plot points were satisfyingly tied up and everything came full circle. If you read the first book it’s worth picking this one up just to see how everything turns out!
This follow up to The Last Mrs. Parrish was amazing. I was gripped and felt so stressed, I literally read all night and had heartburn from hating that man SO MUCH. The control and manipulation is superbly thought out. Incredible.
I received an advanced copy of this book through NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review. It's been a few years since we were introduced to the characters in this book. The recent short story helped refresh my memory of the key players.
The Next Mrs. Parrish, probably the *last Mrs. Parrish is a lot of fun. It's not really the writing that makes it 3 stars, but the plot and characters doing things that are insane drove my star rating in the end. When you watch a horror movie, scream at a character to be smart and not do the thing everyone warned them about, and they still do it? The only plausible way to have a follow-up is for characters who are deeply flawed to do ridiculous things.
Amber wants to leave town before her husband gets out of prison. Daphne and her kids have settled down in CA, but her daughters don't know the extent of abuse she received from their dad, Jackson. Daisy Ann is still trying to get revenge on Amber , who she holds responsible for her dad's death. These 3 women's lives converge once again. There were a lot of face palm moments that moved the plot along but frustrated me as a reader. If you believe the character is smart, but they do stupid things? Expecting different results?
The book was fairly entertaining if you accept things at face value and don't get too bothered by plausibility. When you want someone to get their just desserts and the ending was a nice little twist but also somewhat anti climatic or predictable. If you like prime time soaps like Dynasty or Dallas, you will enjoy this book. Just take things at surface level. 3 25/5☆ out 6/18/24) trigger warning for abuse and child neglect, drugging.
The perfect ending to The First Shot and The Last Mrs Parrish! How conniving these characters are….from Amber and Jackson to Daphne and Daisy Ann. The author outdid themselves with twist after twist. Highly recommend this book…and the other two. All are must-reads.
