I was so happy to see there was a sequel because I loved The Last Mrs Parish so much but this one just didn’t do it for me. It took me forever to get into the storyline and actually finish the book. It also took nearly the ENTIRE book to get past the abuse descriptors and to the point. I finished it but don’t think it will be on the top of my recommendation list to others.
This is a twisted read! Had me from the first page to the last. Loved the characters, the good nd the evil! They play well off each other. You either love them or hate them. Great storyline. I was given an advanced reader copy of this well written book by NetGalley and I am freely sharing my review.
First of all, I'm so grateful to the publisher and Netgalley for allowing me access to the digital ARC of The Next Mrs Parrish! From the moment I heard of its anticipated release, I have been so eager to get my hands on this follow up to The Last Mrs Parrish! Having read the initial book years ago, I was pleased with how the author laced in tidbits to remind readers of some of the important details which helped me refresh my memory without having to re-read.
Readers quickly become engrossed in characters Amber, Jackson and Daphne and who will come out on top of this tangled web of abuse, tax evasion imprisonment, corruption, etc etc. The twists kept coming as the author shifts between characters with each chapter and I found myself engaged until the end. Thanks again for allowing me access in exchange for an honest review. Readers.. be sure to have read The Last Mrs Parrish before picking this one up!
First, I would like to say thank you for allowing me the opportunity to read this book before its release! I read this book in a week and I will be honest, it took me a bit to get into. The book is not a slow burn, it jumps right back into Bishop Harbor almost immediately and gets straight to the action.
We start off learning that while Jackson has been spending his time in prison, Amber has been spending money on anything she wants. She soon plans to find enough money to plan to leave Jackson and start over, again, with a new identity. The answer to finding the money falls right into her lap during a visitation with Jackson and he reveals some useful information about the yacht he has. This plan fails since Jackson is unexpectedly released from prison earlier and catches Amber trying to leave. He finds her useless to him now and makes a deal with her that if she can help him deceive Daphne, he will help Amber get revenge on, Daisy Ann, the daughter of Amber's first husband who has publicly humiliated her.
Daphne and Jackson's daughter, Tallulah attempts to leave to see her father which leaves Daphne to make a hard decision. Against her judgment, she decides to leave the safe haven they had created in California and go to Bishop Harbor just for the summer so their daughters can attempt to rebuild their relationship with their father. Jackson would be allowed to see the girls but it would need to be supervised and under Daphne's terms.
About a quarter of the way through the book I got sucked in and had a hard time putting it down at a decent time each night. It switches between three POVs, we get Daphne, Amber, and even Daisy Ann. There is a plot twist near the end of the book that literally had me holding my breath.
The ending wrapped up nicely and I feel like even the first book could have ended without needing a sequel, this sequel added just enough that it didn't take away anything from the first book but just added to it.
The only reason I gave it 4/5 stars was because I didn't love reading Amber's POV, it seemed to drag on a little more for me. I absolutely loved reading Daphne's POV and it pulled at my heartstrings a little bit as a mother.
Amazing. Fantastic. Outstanding. I LOVED IT.
The first book in the series, the Last Mrs Parrish is a comfort read of mine. Sounds odd but I love a good psychological thriller and a good one is hard to come by, a great one even harder. But these are great.
It was so good to see the characters again and even see Daisy Ann from the prequel book get justice for poor, sweet Jake Crawford. Amber and Jackson are certifiable. I’d say 90% of the book I was hyped up, feeling so mad for the things Amber and Jackson were pulling and seemingly getting away with. The ending provided some great twists and plans revealed and everything wrapped up perfectly.
Thank you Netgalley and Random House Publishing for the ARC!
SYNOPSIS
- Sequel to “The Last Mrs. Parrish”
- More of same story involving Daphne, Amber, Jackson, and the kids, as well as a new character, Daisy Ann.
MY THOUGHTS
- Mehh, this was a let down. I gave “The Last Mrs. Parish” 5 stars, but this one doesn’t measure up.
- Frankly, this was bland, and there was no reason for a sequel. It feels like a cash grab to bank off the success of the first book, but this story is not very deep or well written. All the characters are nauseating & unlikeable.
TL;DR: ⭐️⭐️⭐️there didn’t need to be a sequel. read “the last mrs. parish” & then pretend this one doesn’t exist.
Thanks to Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine | Bantam and Netgalley for this digital ARC in exchange for an honest review. This book will be published on June 18a, 2024.
Thanks to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine for an advanced reader copy of The Next Mrs. Parrish.
I wasn't expecting a sequel to The Last Mrs. Parrish but this story was a great follow up and definitely kept me turning pages with all these crazy characters.
Well done!
I was incredibly excited to receive an advanced copy of this book. Mostly because it required me to read a book that has been sitting on my TBR shelf for quite some time. And let me say, I was not at all disappointed. I really enjoyed the twists and turns in The Last Mrs. Parrish and even more so in The Next Mrs. Parrish.
The book leads off with the much hated Amber. She has plans to ruin all of the people in her world once again. She and Jackson were the perfect despicable match both determined to set the world on fire in order to get exactly what they want, when they want it.
Daphne and the girls are living happily in California. That is, until the girls decide that they miss their dad. Daphne, being the good hearted soul that she is, decides to take them for a visit with the expectation that they will be strictly under her rules But we all know Jackson and Amber. So let the deceiving disaster begin!
There were times that this book had my jaw on the floor. The unexpected twists and turns kept me fully engaged the entire time! Such a great read! Thank you NetGalley and Random House Publishing for this highly entertaining book!
Not a lot of sequels or second books can live up to the first but The Next Mrs Parrish went above and beyond. The “bad” characters were just as evil as they were in the first book, and there was a lot of character development as well with the “good” characters. Very quickly read this book and kind of wishing for a third one someday too.
I loved The Last Mrs. Parrish, and was really excited to learn that a sequel was coming out! I did enjoy the storyline, although this one dragged a little more for me than the first one did. The last quarter of the book definitely picked up, and had some great twists and turns. I did like the ending as well! Overall I thought it was an enjoyable story.
4-4.5 stars.
I really liked the first book and was excited to be approved for an ARC of this sequel!
This book is a true continuation of the first book and cycles between POVs of the women from the first book, Amber and Daphne, plus a new character.
Part of me wonders if I've lost the taste for reading about truly awful people doing awful things, but it was entertaining and kept me wondering who was one or two steps ahead of whom in these cat and mouse games. A few times I thought there were plot holes left dangling, but they ended up being addressed. I found the ending satisfying! If you liked the first one, definitely add this to your TBR - expected publication date June 18, 2024.
Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group for providing me with an advanced reader's copy in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC copy of this novel. Constantine does not disappoint with this sequel that outshines the original! More twists, more surprises and more suspense. This is a book you won't be able to put down. Here's hoping there is a 3rd Mrs. Parrish!!!
Thank you to NetGalley and Random House for an ARC of this book.
I really enjoyed the addition of Daisy Ann. Overall I enjoyed it, a good sequel but there was something missing for me. A lot going on so it seemed a bit rushed to wrap up the last few chapters. Amber and Jackson were as despicable as ever and Daphne made some crazy choices.
I adored this book! A huge shoutout to Netgalley for providing me with an advanced copy in exchange for my thoughts. After devouring "The Last Mrs. Parrish," I couldn't wait for the sequel. And let me tell you, it did not disappoint. From the very first page, I was completely captivated. I was already deeply connected to the characters, and witnessing their journey continue was absolutely thrilling. This novel is an absolute page-turner; I found it nearly impossible to set aside. Each twist and turn kept me on the edge of my seat, eagerly awaiting what would happen next. Without a doubt, I wholeheartedly recommend this book!
Sequels can be so hit and miss but this one was definitely a hit. I enjoyed The Last Mrs. Parrish but I absolutely loved The Next Mrs. Parrish.
The whole story line was absolutely wild, but I absolutely loved it. Each part of the story could have gone so many different ways and it was all tied together so well. Just when you thought you figured it out, it all changed. Just when I thought I was going to roll my eyes and say “c’mon Daphne you know better” to myself for the 4th time it was great to see that she had a great idea! Great work, many thanks to Net Galley and Bantam for the chance to read this before it’s official release! #netgalley
Unfortunately, I found this novel to be disappointing, as the the mystery/thriller of this story was very thin, and the story was deeply convoluted and slow to develop. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for this honest review.
I love a good sequel and this one did not disappoint! The story of these characters all came back to me as I read. It was enjoyable and page-turning! The secrets, the tricks, and the lengths that they go to in order to get what they want! Loved this read!!
I could not put this book down I simply could not wait to see how this was going to end. I was very excited to read this because The Last Mrs.Parish was so well written and had a wonderful and unexpected twist at the end that I had not predicted. This new book was just as good maybe even better than the last one. I love how its written from two points of view and how the womens roles have switched from the last book. Amber and Daphne Parrish are thrown together once again when we thought the two women were finally free from each other. This book has so many twists you never can really figure out which characters are loyal to one another.
This book is an absolute page turner, the perfect summer beach read. Amber is the current wife of Jackson Parrish and is climbing the social ladder as she has always dreamed no longer a poor wall flower. Daphne on the other had has moved to the west coast to hopefully live a peaceful life away from her manipulating ex husband Jackson. Unfortunately for Daphne her oldest daughter wants to know her Dad and Daphne again becomes tangled in the web of Parrish lies and deceit.
Love the cover. I wanted this book to be as great as the first but it didn’t live up to my expectations. The book was a little cliché and predictable. I really don’t like Jackson as a character and his controlling, abusive nature was cringy and blah. A 2.5 start rounded to a 3. An easy, quick read but this one did not met the expectations I had for it.
I loved the first book so I was very excited to get my hands on an advanced copy of the sequel!
It was great to see what the characters were up to and the addition of Daisy Ann took things up a notch.
Daphne thought life was great in California living with her mother and two daughters, Tallulah and Bella. She thought her devastating ordeal with Jackson was in the past and they could finally find some peace in their lives. That is until Tallulah starts acting out and she is forced to take them back to Bishops Harbor for the summer to reconnect with their father who has been recently released from prison for tax fraud.
Daphne has no clue that her life is about to take a turn for the worse when Jackson has set up a devious plan with his new wife, a con-artist named Amber that will force her into a corner with no way out.
I loved Daisy Ann’s tie-in to the story as it made the story fresh and engaging. Save this book to your TBR for a thrilling summer read.
Thank you to NetGalley & Random House Publishing for this advance reader copy of The Next Mrs. Parrish!
