Before I get to the review, I want to preface this by saying if you didn’t read the novella “The First Shot” before this, do yourself a favor and read that first or you may be confused.
I was genuinely excited when I saw that there was going to be a sequel to “The Last Mrs. Parrish” as I really liked the first book, however, this one was just OK. Four out of five stars.
I felt a little disappointed because the beginning and some parts seemed long and drug out which was somewhat frustrating to me. With that said, once I got to the last half or third of the book and the pace picked up, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I didn’t see some of the twists coming and was happy with how everything wrapped up at the end with Jackson and Amber getting what they deserved and Daphne and her girls getting a happy ending. I didn’t see that ending coming at all which I loved but I still have questions on who the man was that was responsible for Jackson’s demise. I suppose this could be to set it up for a third book with finding out who that guy was but other than that, I don’t know how that would really be possible with the end of the story line.
Overall it was just a good, not great read. It was enjoyable and not too heavy. I do love the sisters’ writing style from multiple points of view, so I have high hopes their next book will be better.
Lastly, a huge thank you to NetGalley, Random House Publishing Group, and the sisters known as Liv Constantine for the opportunity to read and review an advanced reader copy of “The Next Mrs. Parrish”. I’m looking forward to see what they come up with for their next book!
This is the second book in the series and it picked up right where the first one left off. Daphne worked hard to get her and her daughters a new life so how did she wind up back in her old life playing Jackson’s games again? Amber has everything figured out and finally has everything she ever wanted but does she really?
Thank you NetGalley, the publisher and author for my ARC.
The last Mrs.Parrish is such a popular book and layered story I was so excited to get this Arc! Overall entertaining when you’re in the mood for a domestic suspense story and if you loved the last Mrs.Parrish #1
The ending is well worth it but it is a tad cheesy, slow, and even confusing with all the sub plots, story lines, and side characters until 50% in. A few twists I didn’t see coming. Easily (on purpose) unlikeable psychopath characters. Some parts seem to come together easy and far fetched while other are blatantly dragged out when the easy fix is obvious.
💍 This one follows 3 POVs:
Daphne… now with her daughters in California. Talulah missed her dad and Daphne agrees to go back to bishop harbor so the girls can have a relationship with him. Uhhh wtf no how dumb is this lady to get sucked back in again all because she doesn’t want to tell the girl how horrible he is? No she has lost my support.
Amber… the crazy lady is STILL crazy if not even more so. She is stealing more in the current day and her past crimes are catching up with her. Her last late husbands daughter is out for revenge on her and amber want nothing more than to get back at Daisy Ann too for keeping all the money she was suppose to get from the death of her previous husband.
Daisy Ann… seems too good to be true. The only semi-like-able character in this book besides Meredith. She’s lost both her parents. She is trying to keep her company going that sells her mother’s jewelry designs. She’s trying to prove amber murdered her father.
I love how everything connected and how at the end KARMA is real and everything works out how it should! I wanted Daphne to keep Jax.
👎🏼 spoilers!!!!
I know it’s done this way on purpose but the writing and dialogue for the Texas parts and the kids were so annoying 😂. Tallulah was beyond frustrating. Should have just let her go alone to Jackson. Good riddance.
Daphne going back , infuriating. Why didn’t she record him earlier? I would have recorded conversations before even the beach part. Nothing is ever good enough for amber she should have just left with her half of the diamond money and left Daisy Ann alone. She wouldn’t have gotten caught. But I’m glad she finally met her crappy fate.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for ARC.
I was surprised to see this book popped up on NetGalley. Previous book didn’’t give any hint of sequel of it. But hey what a nice surprise!
Loved different POV (three this time!l. Now I want to go back to the first book and re-read them. For readers who enjoyed the last Mrs. Parrish should read this book.
I was so honored to read this HIGHLY anticipated sequel to one of my favorite thrillers to date. Definitely read the first book prior to this one, even though the author does a great job of summarizing her previous book throughout. If you're able to, I would also read the short prequel as well.
On to the review!! I absolutely loved it, could not put it down. Are some of the characters unlikeable? Absolutely. Does that make the book even more appealing? YES. Full of suspense and crazy plot twists, I love how the characters intertwine throughout.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!
Thank you NetGalley for this ARC, all opinions are my own.
As a follow up to the Last Mrs. Parish you can read this one as a stand alone but why would you. Pick up the first book and then dive into this one for the full scope of what's going on in this mind binding book. In this book, Jackson, Daphne, and Amber are all back. Jackson fresh out of prison with mixed feelings about his ex Daphne and current wife Amber but whose funds are running low. Just because Amber is his current wife doesn't mean all is well of course. She knows her time is coming to an end but just hopes to hand a cushion to live off of. Daphne has always been Jackson's true love but she'd love nothing more to just stay away but finds herself roped back in when her and Jackson's daughter runs away because she wants to see her dad. Daphne agrees they can have supervised visits. Cue an old friend of Amber's who's love nothing more to bring her down. The hits keep on coming. The narrative maintains a sharp focus, keeping the pacing riveting and the twists unpredictable and clever. With each turn of the page, I found myself eagerly anticipating the next development, anxiously hoping that justice would prevail over the cunning adversaries. Pick up this one, put your seatbelt on to enjoy the twists and turns of this book.
Many thanks to NetGalley, the author and Random House Publishing Group/Ballantine/Bantam
This is a new quick go to author for me. i loved how this book was written. I'm very thankful to have received this book. It was a quick read but it had a lot to spell out. I can't want to read more from her. I will be requesting more when i see them.
The Last Mrs Parrish spawned so many similar books, it is hard to imagine how the writing duo Liv Constantine can make a sequel new and fresh. Without the plot twist available to the original, Constantine returns to the world of Daphne and Amber by introducing a new character, Daisy Ann, who brings a different and interesting perspective. While Daphne’s behavior is often unbelievable and baffling, readers will still want to check in with the Parrish family for their next chapter.
I was surprised to see a domestic thriller get a sequel, so I was interested to check it out! I felt like this one had more a domestic suspense vibe when compared to the first book, and I found myself way more invested in Daisy Anne's storyline than any of the original characters. The pacing was super slow for me at parts (I'm also in the worst reading slump of my life so take that with a grain of salt), but overall I thought The Next Mrs. Parrish was a decent, if not an unnecessary, sequel.
Thank you to NetGalley and Random House for sending me this ARC!
The Next Mrs. Parrish is about Amber Patterson Parrish, who becomes a well-known socialite even after her husband's legal troubles. As her husband's release from prison approaches, she, her husband Jackson, and his ex-wife Daphne face their past mistakes and secrets, leading to unexpected alliances and challenges.
The Next Mrs Parrish is a true sequel so I recommend reading The Last Mrs. Parrish and *
The First Shot before reading this one. The writing seemed overly simple and the dialogue felt stilted. It leaned more towards a family drama than a thriller. The pacing was uneven, with certain scenes dragging on too long. I wasn't a fan of the characters and the supposed twists were easily predictable. While I appreciated the various perspectives, I found it odd that Daphne's perspective was told in the first person whereas Amber and Daisy Ann's were in the third person which irked me. The ending was predictable, which wasn't terrible in itself, but the journey there felt lackluster. I ended up giving this book a generous three stars. This sequel felt unnecessary. Overall, I don't think the author duo is for me. Their style just doesn't resonate with me, and The Last Mrs. Parrish remains the only book of theirs that I liked.
Once again, Liv Constantine sucks us into the drama and suspense of The Parrish family in this highly anticipated sequel. The added POV, twists in the plot, and overall story had me hooked from Chapter one. Liv does a wonderful job at creating both likable and unlikeable characters, and weaving them together masterfully in a way that keeps the reader guessing what will happen next. This is a sequel that people should be lining up at bookstores to purchase.
Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Ballentine for the advanced reader copy.
I loved being able to get the ARC for this book! And the ending was definitely all that I was hoping for!
The book started off a little slower for my taste, I found myself looking what would be the new hook of the Mrs. Parrish saga. But, what helped balance the pace was the introduction of a new character, Daisy Ann. Her background story was so engaging and I kept wanting to find the ways it tied to Amber and Daphne. As for those two, it was fun being back with them again! Amber is so unlovable but so interesting. I hate her but it love her chapters!
The multiple POV was really engaging the twists after about 50% were shocking and the pace picked up majorly. It started to feel like every chapter had a bombshell moment! If you want something mysterious, if you like thrillers, if true crime is something you enjoy, you’ll love this one! Once you get into it, you won’t be able to put it down- I stayed up late to finish… I had to know how it ended!
When I heard there was a sequel to “The Last Mrs. Parrish,” I can’t express how fast I jumped on Net Galley to apply. I read the first installment in just a few days and loved the ride. “The Next Mrs. Parrish” was still enjoyable but didn’t quite live up to the original.
We returned to the characters that we know and love (to hate mostly). It felt natural to jump back in so quickly. I loved adding the perspective of Daisy Anne and her narrative. I wasn’t quite sure if she was going to be someone the audience could root for or despise. One element I loved in the first book was the distinct switch in perspective halfway through, which was not part of the equation this time.
Overall enjoyed the ride, though the end was a little too much for me. I definitely had to suspend belief on a few plot lines. While I loved seeing the good guys (gals) prevail, it felt as if there were just too many tidy endings. Just when I thought something was resolved, there was one more twist of the knife that got addressed shortly after. Didn’t feel entirely satisfying for my taste.
Many thanks to Net Galley, Bantam Books, and Liv Constantine for the ARC! Always a pleasure.
The Next Mrs. Parrish
Amber, Daphne, Daisy Ann and Jackson are back in another nerve shattering installment in The Next Mrs. Parrish. Worlds collide when Daphne, who's finally escaped Bishop Harbour, is forced back when her teen daughter starts asking questions and missing her father. Jackson seems patient, kind, and changed but Daphne knows better and she's determined not to let Jackson trap her anymore.
The Next Mrs. Parrish is as equally as exciting as the first book and having read the prequel to The Last Mrs. Parrish I found Daisy Ann to be the perfect addition to the cutthroat world of the Parrish. My nerves were on edge the entire time, the situations are gut wrenching, I found myself having to keep reading to see what that insane Amber or narcissistic Jackson would scheme. I've honestly never have read two characters I wanted so bad to see crash and burn.
The novel reads from the point of view of Daphney, Amber, and Daisy Ann as all of them walk a tight rope around each other, every chapter masterfully spinning them closer and closer until the anxiety inducing end.
My only complaint would be that the ending, and I mean the last very few pages felt rushed, I would have liked to really seen what happened to Amber in more detail after dealing with her insufferable personality for three books.
Liv Constatine knocks it out of the park with a follow up to The Last Mrs. Parrish with The Next Mrs. Parrish. In this book, Amber is now the wife while his ex is in California with her mom and their 2 girls. While on a school field trip, their oldest daughter sneaks away to meet up with her dad. Due to this, the girls and their mom go back to the east coast. If you want more details, please pick up a copy of this book for the intense thriller it is.
I read the first book in one day! This one, not so much, I don’t know if it’s because I was infuriated. Maybe because so much was a little too far fetched, but it did finally pick up for me about 75% through and I felt better about the ending!
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC
Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC!
I was so excited to be able to read this because The Last Mrs. Parrish is one of my favorite twisty thrillers. I was so excited to dive back into the lives of Daphne, Jackson, and Amber. While I enjoyed getting to revisit some characters I really liked, this sequel fell flat. I found it very hard to get into, frequently unbelievable, and there were so many twists that it just became too much. I would like read it again, but it definitely did not live up to the original.
Holy moly, what a whirl wind of events.
At first I was a bit thrown off with a new character (Daisy Ann) just because it took a little to get to know what was happening and why they were intertwined.
Then holy crap it just starting to go crazy and...well... I was sucked in. Incredibly entertaining, perfect novel of revenge and deception.
The ending, chef kiss.
Huge Liv Constantine fan, and this was yet another incredible novel.
If there becomes a third book, I would love to read a "Jackson" story, or more with his perspective.
Thank you NetGalley and Random House Publishing for my E-ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I did not think this book could beat Constantine's previous book, The Last Mrs. Parrish. It was amazing and surpassed my expectations. I could not put it down!
I was so thrilled to be lucky enough to receive this as an eARC. Admittedly, I hadn't read The Last Mrs. Parrish prior to receiving this eARC but it had been on my TBR for well over a year. Thankfully, receiving this book gave me the push I needed to bump it up to the tippity top of my TBR and I was not disappointed. I have to admit, that I'm a sucker for these types of dramatic books and Liv Constatine did not disappoint.
