The second book in the series and I loved it. A murder mystery while also being a rom-com? Count me in!
In this installment, Riley and Nick are trying to find a murderer who leaves glitter bombs as their warning. Which shouldn’t be a problem for a psychic, right? Wrong. As she’s still exploring her gifts, connecting to the victims is not easy. Especially when she does connect, all the victims are full of themselves.
Not to mention the crazy family of Riley’s who add even more chaos. And her house mates. But you’ll have to read to find out the chaos.
Thank you Netgalley and Sourcebooks Bloom Publishing for the ARC!
The opening scenes for this book felt very over the top and too animated which tinted the rest of the book for me. However, I didn't realize when I started that this is actually the second in a series. Has I read the first book, I'm almost certain my impressions of the first part would be completely different.
On the pro side, I loved that this book was trying to be a bridge between romance and mystery. For me is was definitely a mystery with a little romance sprinkled in, and I loved it.
I'm definitely going to have to go back to read the first book.
This book was well written but just really wants for me. I struggled to get into it and was glad when it was over. I typically love Lucy Score but this one just didn’t hit the mark for me.
This book was just okay.
I decided to read the first one before I attacked this one, and I'm glad that I did. The first one was funny & cute. I liked the way Nick & Riley meet & how he evolves. In this book though, Nick sort of "devolves". He is super possessive & not in a good/cute way
It just reads as a red flag for me.
I also think that there are TOO MANY characters. It was hard to keep track of everybody. I got bored alot and kept falling asleep, which doesn't bode well I'm sure.
My favorite character is probably Burt, he can do no wrong. I wish he had better owners
They don't clean up the yard!? And they keep putting him in situations where he eats food that's bad for him. Poor dog.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the arc of this book. This is the second book in Lucy Score's Riley Thorn series. This series is a great read. I absolutely love Riley, Nick and the cast of characters in their lives. Riley's roommates add so much humor to this series. This book was even better than the first in the series. Riley is a female main character that is relatable even with her psychic abilities. This book was a fun easy read. I cannot wait for the next book in this series. I highly recommend starting this series.
The corpse in the closet is the perfect sequel to the Riley Thorn series. Lucy Score has outdone herself with this whimsical, hilarious tale. After the events of the first book, getting to see Nick and Riley navigate their relationship, living together, and more psychic problems was a blast. The banter is excellent, but it’s Lucy Score I expect nothing less! Riley and Nick’s relationship definitely feels so real and full of love. I enjoyed every minute of this.
This was my first Lucy Score novel and also technically the 2nd in series. Being familiar with some of the side characters may have been quite beneficial for me, because there were just a lot of names to keep up with right from the start.
I really loved the main two characters, Riley and Nick, and the humor throughout the book. However, other things just weren’t doing it for me. I found some of the side characters ok and some downright annoyed me. The plot and characters were both very ~out there~ and quirky, thus being actually unbelievable to me at times. Given the description of the ex husband, how were they EVER married? How does Bella never remember Riley and introduce herself EVERY time they interact?
I think this may just not be my style. If you enjoy over-the-top characters and plot, lots of side characters (almost an ensemble-cast for the novel), and just general quirkiness and chaos, this book may be more your speed. I never like to yuck someone’s yum, and I know some out there will LOVE The Corpse in the Closet.
Thanks to the publisher, author, and NetGalley for this eARC in exchange for an honest review.
I just finished “The Corpse in the Closet” by Lucy Score. I am a big Lucy Score fan. However, I requested this book not knowing it was part of a series. It took some time to figure it out since I felt like I was missing something but overall it’s fine as a stand alone book. I wasn’t a huge fan of this story line but I know it could appeal to a lot of other readers!
I was not a fan of this book. The story dragged on in lots of places and I found both main characters unlikable. I will read the sequel to this but I don’t know if Lucy Score books are for me
A big thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks/Bloom Books for the eARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This I believe a reprint and is the 2nd in a series. It reads well as a stand alone. Riley and Nick are an interesting couple. This is a fun book, a little over the top but still a fun read. Both have crazy families and I loved the cow! A cozy romantic mystery, and I hope to keep reading this fun series. 4 stars
I first heard about Lucy Score from a coworker, and the first book of hers that I read was the first book in this series “Riley Thorn and the Dead Guy Next Door.” I tend to be hesitant to read books from a new author, because it tends to take me a while to get used to the writing style. The thing I loved about the first book was that it started off with a pretty suspenseful scene, and then backtracked so you could see how they got to that point. Starting it off that way helped hooked me early on. I thoroughly enjoyed that book, and could not wait to reach the second book in the series.
This book felt like coming back home to my beloved friends. Here lately, I gravitate towards suspenseful books. This book can count as suspenseful, but more like a comedic suspense. I also love a good romance book. This book (and series is I am being honest) is checking all of the boxes for me.
I definitely enjoyed trying to figure out the mystery right along with the rest of the characters in the book. I never would have thought that a book where murders were being investigated would make me laugh as much as this one does. I definitely enjoyed this book, and cannot see what is next. I can see this series having many more books (Eve & Roarke from “In Death” level is what I hope)
**A received an advanced reader copy of the re-release for my honest review**
First of all, I just have to say I love this series. While I have never been a fan of madcap humor in books, Lucy Score had me laughing every chapter. And the reason is the characters with all their eccentricities are fully realized and drawn with empathy and heart. This book starts right where book one finished. Sexy P.I., Nick, and reluctant novice psychic, Riley, move in together in the mansion/boarding house along with the resident houseful of senior citizens looking to enjoy every day. Nick objects when Riley is asked to consult to a police case, but his own case may have ties to the police one. Full of glitter bombs and indelible characters. Four and half stars, rounding up.
This is my first Lucy Score book. I've heard wonderful things about her and have a few of her books on my growing tbr list, but hadn't actually read any. I loved this one. It was funny and interesting. Even though it's the second book in the series, I didn't feel lost starting with this one. I will definitely go back to read the first book though, just because this one was so hilarious. If you love romcom books then you will love this one. It's an easy read that keeps you entertained from the get go. Now for the next book in the series !
Thank you to NetGalley, Lucy Score, and SOURCEBOOKS Bloom Books for the opportunity to read this ARC.
4.5 stars! Lucy Score has absolutely done it again! A full review of The Corpse in the Closet coming soon.
Nick and Riley 2
These are standalone books however I definitely recommend that you read in order. If you haven’t read book 1 then there may be spoilers.
Nick and Riley have now moved in together, per Nick, as he is in constant fear for Riley’s safety. Especially after the first book. (See you need to read it!) Of course, Riley feels like it is overkill but Nick is correct in his worrying as Riley will once again be put in a dangerous situation.
Riley is going to help Weber with a case, much to Nick’s displeasure. She is still trying to hone in on her psychic powers and she will need them more than ever. The couple will each meet the other’s family, and that a disaster. And we still have all the crazy old neighbor people interfering every chance they get.
These stories are quite funny, so entertaining, and very fun to read. I definitely recommend this and Dead Guy Next Door.
This book was so funny. It was a bit over the top in some area. And I did feel like it was a bit long. But I love Lucy Score and her books. At first I wasn’t sure if I’d like it but it really came through toward the end..
Hilariously witty and amazing! This was the perfect follow up to book 1 and I just love and adore Riley so much! I'm loving this new style by Lucy Score and I can't wait to read what's coming next!

Review: In full disclosure, I did not realize this was the second book in a series when I requested it and I think that’s why I’ve struggled to get into it. While it can be read as a stand-alone, I can tell that I would enjoy the characters so much more if I’d read the first book in the series before starting this one.
The Corpse in the Closet is a funny read, with a whole host of quirky characters and a relatively loose plot line. I didn’t feel like there was much character development or even too much of a plot line at times — it’s mainly a lighthearted read consisting of humorous banter between the characters. I think I would’ve enjoyed this more if there’d been more character development, more romance, and a tighter plot. (But it’s very possible that if I go back and read the first one, then I’ll look past these things and love this one. The excellent reviews I see make me think this very well could be the case!).
Thank you to Lucy Score, Sourcebooks Bloom Books, & NetGalley for the ARC! All opinions are my own.

Summer heats up for Riley Thorn, a reluctant psychic, and her handsome PI boyfriend, Nick Santiago. First, her stern grandmother arrives, urging Riley to embrace her powers or face the "Guild's" consequences. Then a homicide detective seeks her insights into a well-dressed corpse found in a closet. Meanwhile, Nick juggles a challenging missing person case, his inquisitive parents, and lingering concerns about Riley's near-fatal encounter.
The second book in the Riley Thorn series matches the wit and humor of its predecessor.
This story brims with laughter on every page, keeping me thoroughly entertained. I eagerly awaited each turn of the plot, captivated by another murder mystery featuring familiar characters. The writing's cinematic quality made it easy to visualize,
Excitingly, a third installment is on the horizon! I'm eagerly anticipating it.
I'm a big fan of Lucy Score, so I'm incredibly thankful for these NetGalley and SOURCEBOOKS Bloom Books ebooks!
A huge thank you!!
The characters fell flat for me sometimes and sections of the book were hard to get through... the pacing just felt off. Cute and fun, but there was the potential for this to be really great and it isn't quite there.
