I seriously can’t wait to read the third book in this series. I literally laughed out loud AGAIN in multiple parts.
Easy, fun read that just makes you happy! I loved getting to know the characters even better and the relationship between the main characters deepening! It was so fun! The action and suspense were just the right amounts! Would definitely recommend.
I dove into this as soon as I finished the first book in the series, Riley Thorn and the Dead Guy Next Door. The story picked right up. I would recommend reading them in order. We get more of Riley and Nick and their roommates, friends, and family. If possible, I laughed more during this one. We also get some new characters, like Riley's grandmother, a medium who has come to help train Riley and encourage her total her psychic gifts more seriously. We also meet Nick's parents. Along with all of the great characters, humor, and dialogue, there's a number of cases to be solved and some danger to be avoided.
I flew through this and jumped right into the third one. I am recovering from wrist surgery and this was the perfect series to read- fun, funny, engaging, and enjoyable.
Read this if you like Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series. It also reminded me of Darynda Jones' Charley Davidson series. Fun characters, great dialogue, lots of humor and connection, and a mystery or two to solve.
Thanks to the publisher for sharing a copy with me. All opinions are my own.
This is the book I did not know that I needed. Chapter 1 starts with Riley, her ex and his new fiancée as well as several others trapped with a killer talking about who should sacrifice themselves to save others. If the situation weren’t so dire you would have to laugh at the antics. Chapter 2 jumps us back a few days and I found myself wonder how we got back to the killer’s clutches.
As for the killer and the mystery in general, yes, it was a little light but sometimes light is good, and you need mystery to take a backseat to humor. Take for example the client missing her ex-husband telling them she did not have time for a missing ex. Just another example of a giggle inducing scene. On the outside the characters may have seemed a little stereotypical. Riley is the girl in the country song (especially in terms of wardrobe) and Nick is very alpha. But Lucy did not write a story about stereotypical flat characters. Riley is far from a helpless damsel, in fact, she is a psychic guided by spirits to help the police. All the while, she wants to learn how to be a PI. Nick for all his bravado is a great boyfriend teaching her to defend herself and looking out for her. He gets a little carried away with what he did to her phone but that just means he has a lot to learn about woman.
The other characters including the elderly neighbors, the psychic drill sergeant gram and all the families only add layers to the story and help Riley and Nick grow. Notice, I said grow, not grow together. With all the zany characters in the story, the sexy times between Riley and Nick were constantly being interrupted. And how those interruptions came to be is just one more reason to laugh.
Before I had finished chapter 2, I had gone back and bought the first book in the series and I certainly hope this series continues. I loved everything about this story from the cover to the characters to the dog but most especially to the laughs. This was truly a book I did not know I needed and am super glad I found it. To the author, please keep telling stories about this zany crew.
Thanks to NetGalley and SOURCEBOOKS Bloom Books for the opportunity to read this ARC.
I just finished the last installment of the Riley Thorn series and was super excited to see this one on Netgalley! Had to request immediately!
I really hope to see more books in this series as I will continue to read them. I love getting updates about our favorite characters and Riley and Nick are so much to read about. The mystery was a little less strong for me, but I think this book still does a good job of balancing the romance and mystery. I was simply more intrigued by the first mystery.
I am ready for the next installment in this series.
Thank you to netgalley and the author for this arc in exchange for a fair adn honest review.
It's time for more adventures with Riley Thorn and Nick Santiago!
Once again, I was thrilled with this book. It just has everything I'm looking for when it comes to a book. I love the characters, the story lines, the side characters, and Burt the dog. I think Lucy handles writing the psychic aspect very well. It never comes across as corny or out of place in the story. She does a great job of taking you to Harrisburg when writing the Riley series. I can picture everything clear as day from the old mansion she lives in to the river and downtown area.
If you're looking for a lighthearted romantic suspense, this is for you! If you enjoy a series that follows the same couple for multiple books, this is for you! Honestly, that's one of my favorite things about this series. I really like watching Riley and Nick settle into their relationship. Speaking of Nick, the way he defends Riley in this book is just *chef kiss.* He has no issues standing up to her scary grandma or his parents. I love how much he worries about her and how her being a psychic isn't a big deal, it's just another part of her.
I hope we get 10 more of these books!
I honestly love this series.. “the corpse in the closet” is the second instalment to the Riley Thorn detective series and it is a blast.
Firstly I love Riley and Nicks relationship, Nick really goes out of his way to do above and beyond boyfriend duties in this one as he navigates how to be in a romantic relationship. I’d say this book sways focus more onto their relationship than the first book and less so on the detective forefront but it didn’t feel like it was missing out on anything in the mean time.
I’m also a huge fan of Gabe the spiritual guide who is such a sweetheart. In this book we are also introduced to Riley’s grandmother and Nicks family as extra characters.
After solving multiple murders the book ends on somewhat of a (none threatening) cliff hanger leaving the door open for book number 3. I’m definitely intrigued and will be opting to continue this series.
These books are full of quirky characters, loopy neighbours, laugh out loud banter and inappropriate behaviour. They are the perfect combination of murder mystery, detective work, romance and satire.
Thank you to Lucy Score, NetGalley and Sourcebooks bloom books for the EARCS 🩷🩷

As the second book of the Riley Thorn series, I had very high hopes for this book. It greatly surpassed my expectations and I am looking forward to further books in this series! Riley Thorn is a quirky, sassy, and relatable character with clairvoyance who uses her powers to solve murders. As a continuation of the first book, Riley is working on harnessing her powers. Instead of mastering her powers to suppress them, she wants to master them to use them for good, i.e. solving murders. On top of the mystery solving, Riley's relationship with Nick, a PI working on cases for hire, is insatiable and keeps the reading wanting more.
Riley Thorn and the Corpse in the Closet, the second in the Riley Thorn Series, by Lucy Score, was just as amazing as the first!
The snort-laugh-inducing adventure continues as we follow Riley, Nick, and their hilarious old geezer neighbors through tracking down a serial killer who uses glitter bombs as their calling card. Funny, quick paced, and engaging - this story had me smiling and giggling through the whole thing. I highly recommend the Riley Thorn series by Lucy Score!
Thank you #NetGalley and SOURCEBOOKS Bloom Books for access to this amazing book in exchange for an honest review! Can't wait for #3!
I am loving this series of spicy and hilarious murder mysteries from Lucy Score. Yes, this is a rerelease but it is still worth your time. In the second book of the series, our psychic heroine Riley and her live-in, touch-her-and-die boyfriend Nick, are pulled into a new murder investigation, with predictably hilarious results. The cast of zany secondary characters make this book as much as Nick and Riley do, and the overflow of snark is on point. And even among the funny, there is character growth happening for both Riley and for Nick as Riley starts learning to accept her psychic abilities and Nick learns what it might mean to be in a grown-up relationship. I have my fingers crossed for Wander and Gabe, and I am really hoping for Jasmine and Weber. I will happily read the next Riley Thorne adventure!
5 stars. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a complimentary ARC of this book. These opinions are my own.
Hear me out…a romance novel but add in murder mystery, suspense, paranormal and laughs that will leave you having to catch your breath. Tie that all together and you get this 5/5 read from Lucy Score!
Although this series is different from what I’m used to from her, I’m kind of obsessed. Like can’t get enough, will you please do more of this, I love it, obsessed.
This book is like a cozy hug with so much to love. We love a protective boyfriend and Riley’s PI boyfriend Nick does not disappoint plus the banter between the two of them is *chefs kiss. Also the cast of side characters are not only quirky but so lovable and it feels like you’re right there with them.
The world of Riley Thorn is hard to leave so grab the book and jump into this world that will have you wanting more at every turn of the page.
Riley Thorn is one of my favorite series from author Lucy Score, re-reading just for the laughs and to prepare for the fourth book coming soon.
Didn't enjoy it as much as "Dead Guy Next Door," but I gotta admit, it really picks up halfway through! The foreshadowing was on point. Absolutely loved the message about bullying, but gotta admit, I shamelessly wanted more Nick & Riley moments on screen. Still, overall, it's a solid read!
This series reminds me a bit of the Mediator series by Meg Cabot but more romcom and steamy vibes.
I enjoyed the characters. They bring a lot of humor and fun to the murder mystery story. I also liked how Riley and Nick’s relationship developed from the first book.
The plot was interesting and kept me hooked. I love a murder mystery and I thought the Guild was a good plot line too.
A fun addition to the series.
I received this and immediately knew I had seen it before. This is book 2 in her Riley Thorn series and it originally came out in 2021 but it's just as good.
