First thank you to NetGalley for the ARC of The Corpse In the Closet! (If any of you know me, you know I love Lucy Score!)
Riley Thorn is back at it again, just on the heels of catching her neighbors murderer, she is asked to consult with her psychic abilities on a case for the local police department as well as deal with psychic bootcamp courtesy of her grandma. But in the wake of how her last case ended, PI Nick Santiago is not ready to let Riley out of his sight. However, he has his own missing persons case to deal with not to mention dealing with his growing feelings for Riley. Can these two solve their cases before everything gets blown to pieces?
This book was so fun and chaotic, I loved it. This book was definitely my favorite between the two books I have read in this series so far. The humor that Lucy weaves into her stories is addicting. Her characters are well rounded and quirky in the best way. I think it’s safe to say my favorite characters are the cast of elderly folks within the home, and Gabe.
While this book was long, it definitely was a fast paced read especially towards the end when I could not put it down and found myself trying to read just a little bit longer before I had to go to work. There were a handful of times I wanted to shake the characters and ask them what their deal was, especially with how obtuse Nick could be when it came to Riley. I mean putting a tracker on her phone and car was a bit much! However, Nick’s logic to just let Riley track him was hilarious and pretty on par for a character that has never been in a serious relationship like ever.
Overall, this book was fun and a great read. It is safe to say I am now fully immersed into the Riley Thorn universe.
thank you to netgalley for a free arc of this novel in exchange for an honest review!
3.75 stars! i think i'm turning into a sucker for this series! just as zany but surprisingly not as obnxious as the first one i actually think i enjoyed this one more. i loved the development of nick and riley's relationship and loved that there was more weber in this one! the murder plot i think was a little stronger in the first one but overall i'm really enjoying this series!
I couldn’t get into this book. I’ve read others by this author and so I’m not sure what was different this time.
Lucy Score does it again! Score’s writing has done it again for me. I love her storytelling and the way she writes her characters. I highly recommend this series I can’t wait for the next one!
Thank you to the publisher and netgalley for the ARC “The Corpse in the Closet” by Lucy Score in exchange for my honest review.
The Corpse in the Closet is the second book in the Riley Thorn series. I was immediately hooked and couldn’t put the book down. I found it to be quirky, fun, hilarious and one of the best books I’ve read. I just love Mrs. Penny…she might just be my favorite character!!!
I highly recommend you read the Riley Thorn series by Lucy Score…you won’t be disappointed!!! I’m personally looking forward to reading the fourth book, “The Body In The Backyard” which will be released on July 16th.
I love Lucy Score so much. But I am pretty sure I read too much Stephanie Plum in the early aughts to continue this series. I appreciate you so much for letting me try them!
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me an Advanced Readers Copy.
I loved the first book, it was fun, lovable, easy to digest. I was Laughing Out Loud. This one still has the funny and lovable characters and while it wasn’t bad. I enjoyed the first one more.
This book is the perfect escape from reality with entertaining antics, awesome banter, fantastic humor, fun mysteries, and a quirky but loveable cast of characters!!! I was truly laughing my butt off start to finish with the utter CHAOS that unfolds. A true delight.
Psychic Riley Thorn and her handsome private investigator boyfriend, Nick Santiago, have some of the best banter!!!!
This is not only my first Lucy Score book, but also my first book with a psychic & it will not be my last of either.
In the second installment of Riley Thorn's adventures, she and Nick are mostly happy living with their bizarre set of roommates until Nick is hired to investigate a missing person and Riley is asked to help the police find out what happened to a murder victim. Suddenly they are both back in the chaos of murderers, family drama, and roommates in their business.
I liked this one even more than the first one. The introduction of Nick's family and Riley's grandmother added so much humor and joy to this book. I can't wait to see what hijinks Riley and Nick get up to next.
Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Bloom Books for the ARC of The Corpse in the Closet.
The books in this series are so silly and fun. I really like them for a palette cleanser in between other books. It's like watching your favorite rom com with a side of mystery meets detective with a fun twist. Lucy can do no wrong and I love her books so much.
The Corpse in the Closet is a lighthearted, quirky romantic comedy mystery book from acclaimed author Lucy Score. Unfortunately while I did appreciate some aspects of the book, this series is probably not for me.
The book follows our hero from the last book, Riley Thorn, as she attempts to solve a series of new mysteries and find the connection between them all. As with the first book, this book focuses a lot on the relationship between Riley and Nick and in my opinion is a romance story at its core. Because of that, I found the mystery aspects to be a bit disappointing. I was more engrossed in the mystery than I was in the first book, but I still think diehard mystery thriller fans will be disappointed. I did enjoy the characters, especially Riley, Nick and her ex-husband Griffin. I will say, the tone of this book is very, very silly and wacky, almost farcical. If that’s not your vibe then you might not enjoy reading this book. It was a bit too out there for me and I prefer books a bit more grounded in reality. That said, fans of romantic comedies with a bit of mystery sprinkled in should give this series a try.
"The Corpse in the Closet by Lucy Score" is an unexpected escape into a world of entertaining antics, fantastic humor, and quirky characters. The hilarious chaos that unfolds in Riley and Nick's lives will have you laughing out loud. The continuation of Nick and Riley's romance is filled with chemistry, playfulness, and witty banter that will keep you smiling. With exciting mysteries, engaging characters, and a perfect blend of humor and romance,
This Lucy Score's book is must-read for fans who enjoy light-hearted and entertaining stories. This follow-up to the first book in the series is a fun and entertaining read that leaves you eagerly awaiting the next installment. Once again I laughed so much while reading this books and I CAN NOT wait to read the next book!
The Corpse in the Closet is the second book in the Riley Thorn cozy mystery series by Lucy Score and it is just as entertaining as the first. The quirky and mostly loveable characters are back as well as several not quite as loveable characters including Nick’s parents and Riley’s ex-husband. The romance has heated up between Riley and Nick who are now living together and she works in his detective agency. This is a fast, fun, and often laugh-out-loud funny cozy with an interesting mystery which ends satisfactorily with hints of what to expect in the next instalment and I am so looking forward to it. A perfect read for a lazy afternoon.
Thanks to Netgalley and Sourcebooks Bloom Books for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review
Thank you to Netgalley, Bloom Book publishing, along with the author Lucy Score for letting me read and review this book advanced readers copy. The Corpse In The Closet by Lucy Score is a four star read and second book in the interconnected Riley Thorne Series. The publication date of this book releases to the public on Tuesday April 16th 2024. This book was thrilling, entertaining and had a sweet romance added to it. The Corpse In The Closet has great humor, banter, and adventure with mystery added all together.
"Summer is heating up for reluctant psychic Riley Thorn and her handsome private investigator boyfriend, Nick Santiago."
"You stupid walking hamburger! I’m going to shoot you between the eyes and turn you into a roast!” the woman howled."
“When you’re in a relationship, isn’t part of the fun being able to tell the other person what they can and can’t do?”
“Yeah, when you’re the woman.”
This book was all around amazing!
This is the second book of the Riley Thorn series and it starts off pretty much right where the first one ended. All of the loveable and zany characters are still around, with a few new faces showing up. The mysterious aspect of the story is just as intriguing as the first book and the pace of everything keeps it all following quite well.
Riley Thorn and her crew return in "Riley Thorn and the Corpse in the Closet," a light-hearted mystery filled with humor, quirky characters, and even a flatulent dog. While this book can be enjoyed as a standalone, delving into the first book, "Riley Thorn and the Dead Guy Next Door," enhances the experience.
The banter between Riley and her boyfriend Nick Santiago adds a delightful dynamic to the story, along with the introduction of Nick's family and the appearance of Riley's grandmother. The novel maintains its charm but for some, the pacing may have felt a bit drawn out.
Overall, despite feeling slightly lengthy, this installment in the Riley Thorn series offers an enjoyable and entertaining read, sure to bring a smile. While it may not have captivated as much as the first book, the promise of a third installment keeps the anticipation high.

A big thank you to SOURCEBOOKS Bloom Books and NetGalley for providing a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review, reflecting solely my thoughts and opinions.
I enjoyed the first book of this series - but this one just wasn't for me. Riley Thorn's psychic abilities and her relationship with private investigator Nick still offer some charm, the once lovable characters now come across as annoying, and the romance between Riley and Nick lacks the spark it had in the previous book. The mystery elements feel disconnected and less engaging, making it hard to care about the outcome.
Thank you, NetGalley and the publisher, for providing an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
The last thing Nick wants is for Riley to get involved in another murder investigation. She is a reluctant psychic who was almost murdered a couple of months ago. The body count is going up and someone has to solve these murders before Riley becomes the next corpse. Thanks to @NetGalley for the ARC of this book. I really enjoyed it!

Riley Thorn and Nick Santiago are back in another paranormal mystery / romance. I absolutely fell in love with these characters in the first one and I couldn't wait to see where they ended up in the second. The Corpse Next Door picks up right where the first left off. Riley is helping Nick with a missing persons case while also being asked to assist the police in a murder investigation.

I am absolutely obsessed with the crazy gang that live in the same place as Riley and Nick, they are the purest and best form of comedic relief and honestly, I would love to hang out with every single one of them. They continuously had me laughing throughout this entire book. I love Nick, but his overly possessiveness became a bit tiresome after a while. Thats not usually the most endearing trait so it definitely became a lot for me. Riley's family, especially her grandmother, can also be a bit too much within the storyline. I like most of her family (besides her grandmother - she can go kick rocks), but they can also just be a bit much at times. Riley is just Riley and I will always love her.

This story is an interesting one and I really enjoyed how it was all pieced together in the end, but this one fell way more into the romance genre than the mystic/paranormal mystery I was looking for. Don't get me wrong, the supernatural gifts were used, and this is definitely a mystery / murder mystery - I just wanted more ghosts and death and less of the trying to figure out where to have sex predicaments... The story itself has a nice steady pace throughout so you're never bored. There are great suspenseful parts at the end which I really enjoyed and once again, how this story tied together was great!

Overall, this is a fun series. I found this to be a good read. I wanted more out of it sure, but I still enjoyed it and this is definitely a series I will want to continue with. The Corpse In The Closet was re-released 4/16. Be sure to check out this series if you enjoy paranormal aspects / mystery and romance. Huge thank you to NetGalley, Lucy Score, Sourcebooks and Bloom Book for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.
