Another amazing book by Lucy Score. I breezed through it. I still really enjoy the cozy mystery vibe with some spice. I loved seeing a lot more of Nick and Riley's relationship. Can't wait for the next one!
This was such a fun twist on modern romcoms! Lucy Score always knows how to keep me laughing and turning the pages!
It did take me a minute to get into this book, but once I did I was highly invested and looking forward to the sequel!
You can never go wrong with any Lucy Score book, they’re fun read with a hint of spice and good story line! I can wait to finish the series!
It just wasn't for me. I found it a challenge to get into it from the start as I noramally find it challenging to get through books written in the 3rd person. A few chapters in and I still wasn't connecting ended up not finishing it. I did not realize this is a sequel which likely contributed. If you like mystery with your romance then maybe start with the first book in the series.
Perspective: 3rd person
Thank you to netgalley and Bloom Books for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Lucy Score books are as fun in this crime fighting reluctant psychic series as they are in romcom genre. This has a big dose of romance, family drama, entertaining characters…and much more! I highly recommend this to everyone looking for fun time in sheets..of page!
I liked this more than the first one, but I still had a hard time reading it. I found the writing to be choppy and aimless at times. It did not keep my interest. Also, I do not like the cover art.
Thank you, NetGalley, for a copy of “The Corpse in the Closet” by Lucy Score.
I love Lucy Score books but this wasnt one I could get into. I didnt realize it was a series when I applied for it on NetGalley so before my honest review, I’m going to go back and read the first book before actually rating.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC of this book
Riley Thorn is at it again. While she tries to live a normal life, her psychic abilities want otherwise. She and her Private Investigator boyfriend, Nick Santiago, are just learning to navigate life as a couple newly living together in a home with a gaggle of elderly folks with very different personalities. Riley’s grandmother, Elanora Thorn, arrives to help/force Riley to train her abilities and take them seriously. Riley is propositioned by Detective Weber, Harrisburg PD, to help him solve a murder using her abilities. Nick on the other hand is trying to find a missing neighbor. While Riley attempts to help both Nick and Detective Weber, overprotective Nick takes some measures to keep Riley safe when she is not with him. It seems like Riley’s abilities cause trouble to find her and the body count continues to rise. Is she next? Why did she receive a “gift” from the killer that has now put the end of her life on the clock and time is counting down.
I am in love with these characters and the storylines. The personality of each character is different and hilarious. I love the witty banter that they have amongst one another and some of the things they say have me cracking up! Lily and her boy craziness, Mrs. Penny and her vigilante take no crap mindset, Nick’s typical sexual man comments, and Riley’s sarcasm. While there are so many characters that I love, there are a few that I’d like to smack, such as Riley’s grandmother, Nick’s parents, and Blossom and Rogers’ neighbor, Chelsea. However, the way Nick and Riley stand up to these characters with their sarcasm and love for one another is great. I enjoyed the mysteries investigated and the building details, hints, and connections as everything starts to come together. While this book isn’t super spicey, there is spice and spicey conversations that continue to build the chemistry of Nick and Riley’s relationship. Throughout this story, Nick and Riley experience several interruptions as they attempt to get “closer” to one another but the way they handle these interruptions just make you fall in love with them as a couple more and more.
I cannot wait to read the rest of this series. I found myself laughing or smiling throughout this book and the first book. So much so, my husband made fun of me. This book should really be read after book one, Riley Thorn and the Dead Guy Next Door, as there are many connections to things that occur in the first book but if the reader reads this book as a standalone, they would still be able to follow the story just fine. They may just not have the full connection with all of the characters.
Thank you SOURCEBOOKS Bloom Books and NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to read this book and provide my honest opinion.
This is definitely a different book from others I've read by Lucy Score but I was hooked from page one!
It's quirky, it's fun, and add in a psychic and a murder mystery? Sign me up!
It's written really well and is a perfect cozy read.
I am not one to usually read rom-coms, as I have always been a thriller kind of girl. But with Lucy Score's book The Corpse in the Closet, that all might change.
I didn't realize that this was a second book in a series, but I think it's a pretty good stand alone read and I will now be getting the first book in the series.
I was hooked from the first few pages. I loved how loveable, personable and goofy the characters were in this book. The mystery aspect of this book was really fun and easy enough to follow along with. I did feel like the mystery was a little easier to figure out than most books, but I think this book is more rom-com than it is mystery.
This book was so well written, not to mention a really fun read. I am off to get the first book and can't wait to read this whole series. I think I may have found a new automatic buy author!
Chef's kiss to Lucy Score
I absolutely love Lucy Score and this series has not disappointed. I love the characters. They are witty and this was a good time to read. Riley Thorn psychic and her boyfriend Nick Santiago is a PI, you wouldn't think that they would work but they do. So enjoyable. Can't wait to drive in the rest of the series.
Lucy Score's books are always filled with intriguing subplots, quirky characters, humor, and steamy romances. This book is no exception. However, I feel like the Riley Thorn series falls on this side of too quirky. I lost it at the erotically-themed fireplace poker, and not necessarily in a good way. Still, I really enjoy this series and will happily continue reading it.
I absolutely adore the Riley Thorn novels! The Corpse in the Closet is the second in the series and it absolutely shows that this is a top tier series
This was yet another hilarious installment of the Riley Thorn series! I am not sure what I love more, all of the witty banter or the funny and quirky characters! I'm semi new to the rom-com genre and this one did not disappoint one bit!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Lucy score you have me hooked with this series! I’m newer to my rom-com era, and this series is the perfect intro!
This book was just as hilarious (perhaps more) than the first installment! We get even more of our favorite goofy characters and see some new (mostly infuriating) ones. The mystery was really fun to follow along with, but slightly more predictable this time (I don’t mind I was still having a blast).
I love Riley and Nick! They remind me of my husband and me with their sarcastic banter and dry humor, so I really enjoyed the dynamic. I love that there isn’t a dramatic breakup! They are both so protective of each other. Anytime someone treated one of them poorly, the other quickly swooped in to defend them. I think Nick is so adorable for sticking around her crazy family! I loved Riley’s development in this book and seeing her start to embrace the weirdness in her life.
“ She was in love with him. He'd taken a bullet for her, punched her ex-husband in the face for her, and now he was calling out her grandmother on her bullying. Nick Santiago was the goddamn love of her life.”
Mrs. Penny is 100% my favorite character. She’s such a goofy badass! I love that Gabe is turning into his own person and finally getting to enjoy life. Some of our new minor characters were insufferable. Riley’s grandma is so RUDE! Shoutout to Riley and Nick for dealing with her bc I would’ve flipped my lid. Nicks family is so awful too (especially is mom 🙄).
I’m so obsessed with this series and I’m starting the next one immediately 🤭
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
I was so excited to go back into the world of Riley Thorne! This book was hilarious and did not disappoint!
Riley and Nick are back at it again! They are now living together and Nick’s ex-partner and cop asks Riley for help solving a murder of a social media influencer.
Riley, Nick, and the entire cast of characters are just hilarious! I really enjoyed the banter between Riley and Nick. I also loved that we got to finally meet Nick’s family. This book was perfectly written and just a follow up to The Dead Guy Next Door! Another amazing Lucy Score book!!

Thank you to NetGalley, Lucy Score, and Sourcebooks Bloom Books for this ARC!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
*Reviewed on NetGalley, Amazon, and Goodreads.
Ugh, this was too cute. So well written and just a fun addition to the Riley Thorn family. This is witty, funny, a fast read and just a great palette cleanser.
Thank you to the publishing team and NetGalley for the free ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I think this series might be my favorite rom-comm...
A little mystic, a little slap-stick, a little romance - who could ask for more?
I especially love the 'octogenarians' and their shenanigans! This is a great travel read when you want something entertaining, but light (sort of.)
Pretty much a perfect follow-up to book 1, I hadthe utmost fun binging this book 😭 the romance and the found family progressed in such a fun and wholesome way in this book 😭
TWs - murder, serial killer, gun violence, bomb threat
-- ty to the author, the publisher and Netgalley for an advanced copy!
I couldn’t get into this book at all. I tried and tried because of how much I love this author. I was honestly just bored.
