Another fantastic visit to the Cornish Country Hospital. Carrying on from the first book Esther is receiving from finding out how ruthless her fiancée was. Lucas is till under the impression he can’t win her back. Enter her best friend Danni’s brother Joe. He’s home from Australia for a six month stint at the hospital but him and Esther have always been close friends.
Lovely to read with a few mentions of our old friends the Cornish midwives.
Looking forward to further visits to the hospital.

I had read the first book in this series and liked it, so it seemed to be a no-brainer to want to read this one as well, and I am glad that I did.

Esther is a nurse in A & E at a Cornwall hospital, the same one where her best friend Danni works. One day, there is a major accident that involves both women and when one of the patients involved becomes a little too attached, there are consequences that no-one can foresee.

At the same time as Esther is trying to live her life as happily as she can, her mum Caroline is doing her best to figure out her husband. He doesn't seem to have time for her anymore and when another man starts paying some attention, she finds it hard to resist.....

I enjoyed the parallel storylines that involved Esther and Caroline, it worked well. This book does have some romance but it is more about family bonds, figuring out what truly makes you happy and there are some parts of it which made my breath hitch a little bit, from fright!

4 stars from me.

Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books.

Another fantastic book by Jo Bartlett. Lovely to see characters from the first book within the stories of this book.
This is set in a Cornwall hospital around Esters life of ups and downs. Beautiful descriptions throughout. Really enjoyed this book even though at times it deals with some sad items such as dementia.

Finding Friends at the Cornish Country Hospital by Jo Bartlett was a great read. This is the second instalment in Jo’s new series but can be read as a stand alone and was just as great as the first book. Loved reading to see if the friendship between Esther and her best friends brother Joe grew into something more and also enjoyed that the characters returned from the first book. Worth a read.

Actual rating: 4⭐️ (no spice, closed door romance)

To describe it shortly: "Finding Friends at the Cornish Country Hospital" is about Esther finding a way back to herself after her break-up with her terrible fiancée. The story also follows her mom Caroline and the way retirement changes her lifestyle and her relationship with Patrick. BUT this book is about way more than that.

I love every single main character in this book, they all had their own purpose for being there and fit perfectly in the storyline.
Esther seeing the best in everyone and being so good hearted. You also have Joe, being the friend everyone needs and supporting Esther without pushing her to be anything more.
I mean, these two were so wonderful together and such a dream team. You find youself rooting for them from the very start. Then Danni and Charlie making regular appearances and just being there for Esther. I loved their return to the storyline. Lastly, Caroline and Patrick (Esther's parents) being so real with their struggles and love for each other.

This book gives you a warm and fuzzy feeling; It's a feel good story but staying real at that. From dealing with difficult situations and patients, juggling with changes, leaning on friends, finding your way back to yourself, opening up for new relationships as well as overcoming struggles and making mistakes along the way . . . I promise, you will live through those characters. I found the book so wholesome, and that all the relationships are presented so well. The rythm of the book is rather slow, but it fits the setting. The romance is quite the slow-burn and will develop off-page more in our imagination than being described in the book.

Overall, I really liked this book. It's very sweet, and ideal for someone who wants to read a blossoming romance without the spice and smut. It also depicts the different relationships between all the characters beautifully, not only focusing on the romance.

⭐️⭐️⭐️
Three stars.
As I started reading this and until about half way through, I thought it was about a four star read. Then a certain character was introduced and I was confused why. I think perhaps the author was wanting to add in some extra "excitement" to the story. I think the story was all the worse for it. I don't think it needed the added drama. Until this happened, and apart from that, the book was a lovely exploration of relationships at different ages in life. I really enjoyed the times that there were in the emergency department working and helping people. Apart from Dylan of course (if you have read it, you know, but I won't say more because I don't want to ruin the story). For me a three star rating book is still worth a read and I will definitely read more of Jo Bartlett's books. I did enjoy the first book in the series more than this one.

Thank you Netgalley, Boldwood Books and Jo Bartlett for providing an advance review copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

In Jo Bartlett's latest addition to the Cornish Country Hospital Series, Esther Hamilton is embracing her newfound independence after a difficult breakup. With a fulfilling job in the Accident and Emergency department and supportive friends by her side, Esther is determined to keep love off the table. However, when Joe Carter, the brother of her best friend Danni, re-enters her life, Esther finds herself torn. While she's drawn to Joe's charm and support, she fears risking their friendship and potentially upsetting her close-knit circle. Yet, as they work together to care for a troubled patient and navigate personal challenges, Esther and Joe's connection deepens, leaving them questioning whether they're willing to take a chance on love. In this heartwarming tale of second chances and friendship, Esther and Joe must decide if they're brave enough to pursue a future together or if they're destined to remain friends forever.

I am absolutely loving this series and this book did not disappoint. I absolutely love Esther and Danni and it was great to spend more time with them as they both move with their lives.

This book made me laugh and cry, I love it when a book triggers emotions as it means it's totally hit the spot of a 5* read

The series continues with the characters who we met in the first book but with a few new people to get to know. It feels reassuringly familiar. The focus of the story moves onto Esther who is getting used to life after her broken engagement but it is also good to continue with Danni's story and to see how her romance is working out. Friendship is once again at the heart of the story. Esther's dilemma is whether to risk her friendships with Danni and her brother, joe, if she follows her heart where Joe is concerned.

You also see life in the hospital once ore and the camaraderie of the colleagues. There are some amusing moments but also a slightly darker situation when one of Esther's patients becomes fixated with her. You see patients at vulnerable times in their lives and the response of the characters who you are getting to know. This is an entertaining addition to the new series, full of positivity and you see the good side of most people. Anyone who has read Jo's earlier Cornish Midwife series will enjoy the links that there are.

In short: warm, uplifting reading and a gorgeous settin

Day-to-day life in the Accident and Emergency department of Cornish Country Hospital is vividly portrayed in this engaging read, capturing the routine, drama, and relationships among the staff and patients. Esther, a nurse, navigates her friendships and relationships, including with her best friend Danni and her ex, surgeon Lucas. Living next door to Danni's brother, Joe, Esther finds herself drawn to him but hesitant to pursue a relationship. When a traumatic case puts Esther in a difficult situation, Joe becomes a valuable ally. Meanwhile, Esther's parents' struggles add depth to the story. With well-drawn characters, a slowly developing romance, and realistic issues, this beautifully told story balances darkness with warmth and humor, making it a compelling read.

This book is part 2 of The Cornish Country Hospital series. It can be read as a standalone novel but it is more enjoyable when it is read as part of a series.
The book features staff from the A&E department, their families and some of the patients.
There are some serious subjects and medical problems, but the book is well written and sensitive.
I really enjoyed reading this book and I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
Thank you to Netgalley and Boldwood books for my ARC.

Another great series from best selling author Jo bartlett. With a feeling good storyline and hard working characters that you can easily relate to.

I am a fan of Jo Bartletts Cornish Midwife series so thought this new series set in a Cornish A&E department would also be up my street. I am definitely not disappointed, I really like the authors writing style and her character development. Each character has their own trials and tribulations but Bartlett always ensures they come together as friends and a community to help each other out. She also always manages to add a little bit of romance within her books and this one was no exception. I really enjoyed the chemistry between Esther and Jo. As I haven't read the first book in the series, I feel I have missed out on the relationship between Esther and her bff Danni and the background on her previous failed relationship. I will probably go back and read it at some point. But it didn't put me off enjoying this installement.

A great new series which I am sure I will enjoy.

Good story that centers around two main characters - Esther and her mother, Caroline. Esther is a nurse in her hospital's emergency room, where she frequently works with her best friend, Danni, a doctor. Her biggest problem is having to deal with her cheating ex-boyfriend, Lucas, another doctor. She is enjoying being free and having time to spend with her friends. She is living on her own for the first time and loving the independence. Then Danni's brother, Joe, arrives from Australia to augment the hospital's psychiatric corps. Esther has always had a crush on Joe but won't risk two friendships with an ill-advised relationship.

Joe came home to Cornwall after a breakup with his girlfriend. He looks forward to a change of scenery and new challenges. He doesn't expect to be drawn to his sister's best friend, especially since she makes it plain that she isn't looking for anything except friendship.

However, when Esther's caring heart gets her into trouble with a young patient who has suffered a devastating loss, Joe is there to provide backup and support. I enjoyed seeing them work together to help the young man and grow closer as they spent time together. I liked Joe's protectiveness as the patient's attention grew more intense. But as Esther and Joe's relationship deepens, she panics at the realization that he will return to Australia, and fearing the effect on her heart, she pulls away. It takes a dangerous situation to make her realize that life is too short to play things safe. I liked the ending.

The other story is about Esther's parents, Caroline and Patrick. They worked hard all their lives to save for retirement and had big plans for that day. They moved from London to Cornwall to be closer to Esther. Caroline retired first and has been looking forward to making their dreams come true. In the meantime, she has made new friends and spends time volunteering. But when Patrick retired, instead of moving forward with their plans, he became a homebody uninterested in anything even remotely adventurous. Caroline is frustrated and feels a growing distance between herself and Patrick. I felt terrible for Caroline and wanted to shake Patrick for constantly blowing off her concerns. I suspected something else was going on and was proved right. It took a near tragedy to bring these two back together.

I enjoyed the medical aspects of the book, which covered everything from dementia to kidney failure. I loved seeing the caring healthcare workers, the assorted patients, and the fun volunteers. Each one had a unique personality, and I laughed out loud at some of the interactions. There were also tears at heart-wrenching moments and hope that things would work out for everyone.
