This book was so unique and I absolutely loved it! A little spice, a lot of drama, some super unique and quirky characters, and a just a pervasive feeling of "what the heck?" was a combination I didn't know I wanted but absolutely needed. I couldn't flip the pages fast enough and even more compelling was that I couldn't quite put my finger on if this book was a thriller or not!
Kate writes best selling erotica novels under a pseudonym, but her daily life couldn't be further from the steamy scenes in her books. Totally in love with her husband but wholly uninterested in a physical relationship (with anyone), Kate and Matt have rewritten the rules of marriage. While unconventional, it works for them - and helps Kate produce totally tantalizing and scandalous novels that seem to keep even the most critical spicy romance lovers happy.
When Annie and her daughter Terra move to town, the dynamics between Kate and Matt shift. I couldn't put my finger on whether or not Kate was being paranoid, what possible attraction Matt might have to Annie, or what the play would be if Annie was trying steal Kate's husband while also befriending her. How everything played out was so fun and definitely not how I predicted!
If you're looking for a novel that bends genres, has steam but isn't graphic (I maybe even wanted a little bit more!), and is wholly and utterly unique and compelling, look no further! The Widow on Dwyer Court checks all the boxes and more. Super excited for more by Kusel!

This was such a fun and unique read! As a thriller reader, I wasn’t sure what to expect but I’m so glad I read it! I was hooked from the start and read this in one day - I think this would be the perfect book for anyone trying to ease their way into thrillers! Suburban housewives and leading double lies sprinkled with spice!
Thank you to the author, Netgalley and Thriller Book Lovers The Pulse for this advanced copy!
This was definitely not my normal kind of thriller because there was spice. I was skeptical that I wouldn’t enjoy this book. I didn’t hate it because it kept the flow of the book going. This one had a twist that came out of nowhere! Told by two point of views. A unique story and unlike anything I’ve read.
Kate is completely sex-averse. She and her husband haven’t had sex since the night her 10 year old daughter was conceived. Seeing that her husband had needs that needed to be filled, she came up with a bargain with her husband. He could have one night stands with whomever he pleased, as long as he promised to spill all the sordid details to Kate to help fuel her material for her erotica novels.
This arrangement works well, until a dark secret is uncovered about the new family who moves in on the street.
This book completely took me by surprise! Just by the description I didn’t think I would enjoy it but I devoured this book. The plot twists were great. Many thanks to NetGalley for an ARC of this book!

Title- The Widow On Dwyer Court
Rating-⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
So I will just start off by saying this book is SPIIIIIIICY🌶️. As you all know I’m a thriller gal, so I’m not used to a lot of spice in what I read. This book had just the right amount of thriller and spice mixed together that I just couldn’t stop turning the pages. If you like a domestic thriller with a heavy side of spice this one is for you.
Synopsis:
Thirty-six-year-old stay-at-home soccer mom Kate Burke is happily married to Matt Parsons, although their marriage looks very different behind closed doors. Kate is no longer interested in having sex with her husband. So, while they still love each other madly, they make an arrangement: Matt can have one-night stands with other women on work trips, but when he returns home, he has to tell Kate about them—every juicy detail.
Because Kate has a secret life writing erotic romance novels, and Matt’s adulterous affairs are her bread and butter.
The family equilibrium is upset, however, when Annie Meyers, an eccentric young widow, moves to town with her daughter. At first Kate is smitten with this wild, witty woman, who gives her a much-needed break from the other picture-perfect suburban moms, although she’s not sure how much of her secret life she’s willing to share with her new friend. But it turns out Annie has secrets too—big ones that could destroy all their lives.
I went into this book with an open mind and I’m glad I did. I’ve never read a book with a plot like this and I loved the uniqueness.

If you’re in the mood for a spicy take on a thriller, look no further! In this book we follow a happily married couple Kate and Matt. They are perfect in most ways as it pertains to day to day life except for in one way, their sex life. Kate has a condition where she has zero interest or desire to be intimate with anyone. In order to keep their marriage working in a normal manner they realize they both have needs that need to be met. Kate has figured out a way to satisfy them both. She is a romance writer and needs content to write about while he has physical needs. She hatched a plan to allow Matt to have one night stands as long as he reports back to her so she has content to use while she writes. 😱 That’s quite the relationship set up! Am I right?! It seems to be working flawlessly until the widow, Annie, down the street moved in. At first Kate is excited and longs for a friendship with her however soon realizes that Annie has secrets of her own that could change everything.
This book was really a unique take on a thriller. The first half of the book set the stage for this wild ride! And boy oh boy was it that! This book was easy to read in a sitting because it felt kind of like watching a slow train wreck! Lisa sure knows how to put the thrill into a thriller! 🤣 Even though I could tell where this was headed it still didn’t take away from all of the twists and details that unfolded. It was such a crazy ending and I felt like I was jaw dropped as I watched it all go down! Thank you again for allowing me to check out this absolutely bonkers relationship! Makes me thankful for what I have! 🤣🤣🤣
Kate and Matt are the perfect couple. Kate writes erotic novels under a pen name and uses her husband’s sexual exploits to fuel her stories. Strange, but it works for them. When a sexy stranger moves to the neighborhood, Kate begins to suspect her husband has developed an ongoing affair with the new neighbor. While sleeping with other women has always been the plan, Kate has created careful rules that Matt must follow. One of them is never sleeping with the same woman. The other is developing a relationship. So what happens when the neighbor becomes obsessed with your husband?
This was a slow burn 🔥 thriller in the best possible way. If you’re looking for the perfect summer read add this The Widow on Dwyer Court to your TBR.

A most unusual storyline! I can honestly say that I have never encountered another book like it. None of these characters is especially likeable, but it is a crazy and twisty journey. You will keep turning pages because you must know how this ends. Bear in mind this is quite a spicy read, especially for those of us who don't normally read that type of book.
If you like a domestic thriller with a heavy sprinkle of spice this is for you! Many thanks to Thriller Lover Book Promotions and the author for the copy to read.
A thriller with some sexy romance thrown in? Sign me up! My two favourite genres merged together in this fantastic mashup and boy oh boy, what a surprise it was!
Kate is an erotic novel writer who does not enjoy having sex, instead choosing to base her ideas for her storylines on her husband's encounters with other women. Yes, you read that correctly. Matt's trysts are all for the sake of Kate's books and the two have an understanding that whatever Matt does, Kate is to hear about so she can put pen to paper. However, when new mum Annie moves onto their street, the couple's relationship is put under strain.
This book was so unique and engrossing. With short chapters and dual POVs from both women, I found myself unable to stop reading because I just had to know what was going to happen. I loved the twist at the end and kudos to the author for writing of a book within a book. I can't wait to read more by Lisa Kusel.
"The Widow on Dwyer Court" by Lisa Kusel is a riveting domestic thriller that keeps readers engrossed from start to finish. Through the eyes of the characters, particularly Kate, the narrative unfolds with palpable tension and mounting rage. Kusel expertly crafts flawed and complex characters, drawing readers into their twisted world. The fast-paced storytelling and alternating points of view, primarily from the women's perspectives, add depth to the narrative. The unexpected twists in the conclusion further elevate the story, showcasing Kusel's skillful storytelling. Despite its unconventional nature, "The Widow on Dwyer Court" captivates with its originality and gripping plot. It's a compelling read that I wholeheartedly recommend to fans of the genre.
Thank for allowing me to review this book.. Can I say WOW.. So many twists I didn't expect . Has some parts in it I did not expect at all.. Definitely took me by surprise. I can wait to read another book from this author. Definitely a page turner. .
I can't recall reading any book like this. Kate is a married stay-at-home soccer mom and writes erotic romance books under a pseudonym. While she hasn't had sex with her husband in years, they have an arrangement where he can have one night stands and he has to tell Kate every detail so she has material for her books. They live harmoniously until Annie, a widow, comes along. At first Kate is eager to be friends with Anne, who is very different than the suburban moms around. She’s not sure how much of her secret life she’s willing to share. But it turns out Annie has secrets too—big ones that could destroy all their lives.
The book is told from both Annie and Kate's perspectives and interspersed with Kate's spicy book. It was a wild ride and at times a little disturbing but a page turner for sure. I read this book pretty quickly. It was such a bingeable read for me. The first half didn't feel like your typical thriller but the suspense really picked up in the last half. I loved the ending.

Wow, that was a wild ride!
I was so excited when I saw I got this ARC. The synopsis just hooked me from the beginning.
What a unique premise, Kate, a married mother who hates sex but needs to write erotica for her novels makes an arrangement with her husband Matt to satisfy his needs and to gain material, what could go wrong? Especially when Annie, a new widow appears in the neighborhood and odd coincidences start popping up.
The story is sexual, there are a lot of spicy scenes. Since Kate is a writer there's a bit of a book within a book with chapters that include what Kate is writing for her book, the characters, and their escapades that are based on Matt's one-night stands. It was interesting but sometimes got redundant and wasn't all that sexy to read about.
I enjoyed the domestic thriller side of the story and when everything started to come to light I felt the rage alongside Kate. These characters are flawed and crazy but I couldn't stop reading about them. I immediately disliked one, was rooting for the other, and was deceived by another. I thought each character was written well and the pacing was fast. It's told through the women's povs which I liked, I think I would have even liked to get a couple from Matt to see his motivations and how he felt about everything rather than just going off his dialogue.
Each chapter is short so it's easy to read but there was a chapter that ended abruptly and I didn't know the next one was a new scene and the timeline had changed. Other than that, it was easy to follow along.
I thought the twisty ending was done well as I had not expected it would go in that direction.
I highly recommend picking this unique thriller up.
Thank you, NetGalley, Lisa Kusel, and BlackStone Publishing for the arc in exchange for an honest review.
Wow! Wow! This was so unique and so thrilling! This book was loaded with secrets, twist, and turns! I read it in one sitting and I am so glad I did!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy of this book.
Kate writes erotic fiction under a pseudonym for a living. All of her material comes from her husband’s one night stands while away for work. When Annie, a widow moves into the neighbourhood, she and Kate immediately become friends. Then everything starts to go wrong.
I enjoyed this despite other reviews I’ve seen. The book within the book, reading about Kate’s characters was fun. Matt, the husband was not a nice character. The writer described him well and I could imagine him as someone I had met in a previous life. Kate and Annie were a great combination both as friends and as enemies. My only criticism is that ending seemed rushed. There was little detail and just this happened THE END. Definitely a good read though.

This book is SPICY and different from anything I have ever read. A unique plot.
🌶️
Kate and Matt have a unique marriage. After having a daughter she told Matt that she did not enjoy sex. With his work he goes out of town and this gives him the opportunity to have sex, all with his wife’s permission.
🌶️
Kate is a novelist and writes erotica under a pseudonym. She holds this secret so her neighbors are not aware of what she does.
🌶️
Kate and Matt use his out of town experiences to add to her novels. When someone new moves to the neighborhood things get more twisted.
🌶️
There are some graphic scenes and a disturbing scene, so just putting it out there. A wicked book within a book, which is not easy to write.

𝑨𝒎 𝑰 𝒊𝒏𝒔𝒂𝒏𝒆 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒐𝒘𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒉𝒊𝒎 𝒕𝒐 𝒅𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔? 𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒊𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒄𝒓𝒂𝒛𝒚 𝒂𝒓𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒆𝒏𝒅𝒔 𝒖𝒑 𝒅𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒐𝒚𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒖𝒔?
I don't think I've ever read a book quite like this one! Kate is a happily married mom who looks like she has the perfect family with husband Matt and a pre-teen daughter completing the portrait of domestic bliss. But all is not as it seems. You see, Kate has never enjoyed sex. Not even with Matt, who appears to worship the ground she walks on. Even more puzzling, Kate writes erotic romance novels under a pseudonym, so where exactly is she drawing inspiration to write her explicit scenes.
She and Matt have an understanding. Whenever he goes out of town for work, he is allowed to sleep with a woman as long as he follows the rules that Kate enforces, the most of important of which there can never be a repeat performance with the same woman. This arrangement serves two purposes; first, it keeps Matt happy and satisfied, and second, his detailed stories that Kate insists on hearing givers her fodder for her books.
This arrangement is tested when Annie Meyers, an eccentric young widow, moves to town with her daughter. At first Kate loves this strange woman with a wild, almost hippie nature. Annie is a much-needed respite from all the small talk about bake sales and soccer. Plus, she is dying to share her secret life with someone she trusts. But it turns out Annie has secrets too—why exactly has she landed in this neighborhood, where rentals are extremely hard to come by, and why is she so eager to befriend Kate?
Ok, this book was WILD and SPICY. There was one line in particular that I saw caused someone to DNF and give a one star rating, but it didn't bother me because it fit perfectly with the character and her motivations. You also get the fun of a book within a book as Kate's spicy scenes in her book come alive.
Thank you to Thriller Book Lovers Promotions and the author for this early read. This title will publish July 16, 2024 from Blackstone Publishing.
The description of the book is initially what intrigued me as Kate is an erotic novel writer that hates sex, so she allows her husband, Matt to have sex when he's out of town for work as long as he comes back and tells her about it so she can use it for her novels. Annie is a widow who moves into town to get a fresh start with her daughter after her husband passes. Kate and Annie become fast friends after their daughters befriend each other at school as they both see themselves as completely different from the other moms in their area. The story is told from both Kate and Annie's POV. This book was so different from anything I've read recently but I really enjoyed it. I don't know that I'd necessarily call it a thriller in the sense that most people think of thrillers, but towards the end of the book the suspense level definitely picks up and the ending is a twist that I didn't see coming.
Thank you to NetGalley & Blackstone Publishing for the opportunity to read this digital ARC in exchange for my honest review.
The synopsis of this book was intriguing but I just couldn't quite get into the story like I had hoped. I'm not sure if it was the writing or the pace.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Blackstone Publishing for my gifted copy.

I just couldn’t do this one.. this book made me pretty uncomfortable at most times and I didn’t have the desire to even want to find out what’s happening next.. I’m waiting for the suspense to happen and all I’ve found out so far is how freaky and strange these main characters are..
