What an interesting premise! How does a woman who doesn’t enjoy sex write erotic romance novels? Well, for Kate that’s easy! She allows her husband to be intimate with other women in exchange for using the details in her novels. The situation gets complicated when sexy widow Annie moves into the neighborhood.
It’s impossible to read the summary and not be intrigued by this book! I went in with an open mind. While the erotic romance scenes with Macon, the cheese/dairy farmer in Kate’s novel, gave me more cringe vibes than sexy ones, my attention was still hooked by this truly unique domestic thriller. It also helped that it was an easy to read book with short chapters.
I’m torn on rounding my 3.5 star rating up or down. As odd as this book was, it was hard not to be glued to the pages. It’s like a train wreck - you shouldn’t stare but you just can’t look away 🫣 Guilty pleasure perhaps?

The Widow on Dwyer Court was a different kind of thriller, and I think that’s what’s makes it so good. We are introduced to Kate, who writes erotica and gets her ideas from her husband’s out of town romances, since they’re in an open marriage. That alone was a bit different but when Annie moved in to the neighborhood the dynamics between Kate, her husband Matt, and Annie get a lot more complicated.
This was a fun thriller in that there’s no real previous blueprint that may have been read in other books in the genre. I don’t know if I’d at all say there was a thread of believability in it but I enjoyed that it was a truly unique plot. Warning (or encouragement) that this is a lot more sexual than other thrillers.
This was one of the weirdest books that I’ve ever read but definitely a 10 for originality. This was a book that once I started reading I couldn’t put it down. Everyone has secrets but some are a lot more destructive than others. Great read that I would highly recommend.
