A lyrical, utterly moving historical fiction novel set in the logging camps of New Brunswick in the early 20th century that follows Pearly Everlasting, a young girl whose father is the camp cook and Bruno the bear who she grows up with as her 'brother.' In turns haunting and beautiful, this is a feel-good story about human-animal friendship filled with the folklore and French Canadian superstitions entrenched in the culture and people of that time. Highly recommended and good on audio too! Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early digital copy in exchange for my honest review!
