A lyrical, utterly moving historical fiction novel set in the logging camps of New Brunswick in the early 20th century that follows Pearly Everlasting, a young girl whose father is the camp cook and Bruno the bear who she grows up with as her 'brother.' In turns haunting and beautiful, this is a feel-good story about human-animal friendship filled with the folklore and French Canadian superstitions entrenched in the culture and people of that time.
