Awesome cookbook for young chefs! The first part is teaching them terms and then some simple recipes for each meal. This is a great teaching tool.
I looked over this book with my daughter who is a beginner at cooking, and she asked “when can we buy this!” I found it broke things down in an easy to understand way, as well as provided age appropriate challenging recipes. Definitely going to add this to our collection
COOKING CLASS, 10th ANNIVERSARY EDITION is a great introduction to cooking for kids who are interested in getting started in the kitchen. After an introductory section that orients readers to kitchen tools and safety, the book has step by step recipes divided into chapters by recipe type (breakfast, snack, vegetables, desserts). Each recipe has a spoon rating to show the level of difficulty and photos to guide young cooks to success. With a variety of easy to follow, kid friendly recipes with colorful supporting photographs, this will be a useful tool for inspiring and growing beginning cooks.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for sharing an eARC of the cookbook with me.
I am novice and am always on the lookout for EASY recipes and I found this book to have some really good ideas for tasty food I can make with my nieces which are easy and quick and recipes where I dont need to worry or supervise much!
I received an advanced copy of this for my honest opinion from Netgalley and the publisher.
I really enjoyed this book, it gives children easy to follow instructions from using equipment in the kitchen, to different skilled recipes. It is american terminology, however there is a conversion chart. Children from any country, however, can still follow the book. A great tool for an educator to show young children how easy it is to cook and not be scared of the kitchen.
I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
Cooking Class, 10th Anniversary Edition is a bright, colourful, and easy to navigate cookbook for children to learn simple cooking skills in the kitchen and encourage independence, healthier eating, and exploration with food.
Each recipe is easy to understand and follow and clearly set out and the pictures are bright and inviting. There's a great variety of recipes for meals and snacks, and my daughters noted some she wants to try herself. This would make a great gift idea for any child with an interest in food, cooking, and wanting more independence.
This book is a great resource for kids and families who want to explore the kitchen together. The recipes are perfect for young chefs, with clear instructions and photos to guide them through.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing an advanced copy of this book!
This recipe book is beautifully presented. There are so many lovely photos showing the method of how to cook and then lots of fun ways to present the food if you want to, although this part is optional. The recipes are labelled in terms of 1, 2 or 3 forks to show the level of difficulty. There are a mix of classic children's recipes and some that are more unique. It's all very colourful. At the start there are some pages of useful information (and pictures) to teach some of the basics and throughout the book there are other features, for example a page on growing your own. There are plenty of recipes for fruit and veg. In all, this is a great book for children who are learning to cook, especially older children who could do a lot of this independently.
Thanks to Net Galley for an advanced copy to review.
I was unfamiliar with the original Cooking Class cookbook until I agreed to review the anniversary edition. While I’m not one to say kids don’t belong in the kitchen, I preferred to work directly with my girls when they were younger. That said, not everyone has the skill or comfort to teach others in the kitchen. And that’s where this book comes in handy.
Cooking Class is divided into seven chapters and designed to help kids (and maybe even adults) gain confidence in the kitchen.
Chapter One: Welcome to Cooking Class
Chapter one contains all of the basic cooking lessons. These lessons include reading recipes before beginning, cleaning before and after cooking, and explaining different tools and techniques. Readers will also learn the layout of the cookbook and what different graphics mean (like the difference between one spoon and three).
Chapter Two: Breakfast Cafe
Why not start at the beginning of the day? Recipes in this chapter include French Toast on a Stick, Bursting with Blueberries Muffins, and Simple Scones.
Chapter Three: Lunch Lessons
This chapter includes recipes for lunch at home or on the go, including Quiche Cupcakes and Banh Mi.
Chapter Four: Snack Attack
These recipes, such as Buttery Biscuits, are perfect for that time after lunch but before dinner.
Chapter Five: Eat Your Veggies
The recipes in this chapter are wholly focused on vegetables and how to get more of them into your day. There’s a Salad Dressing Factory recipe that includes directions on how to make six different dressings using ingredients already in your house.
Chapter Six: My First Dinners
What’s more impressive than when a kid makes dinner for the family? Especially when it doesn’t come from a box. How does Chicken Curry sound?
Chapter Seven: Time for Dessert
The final chapter of the book is all about satisfying that sweet tooth with recipes like Apple Crisp and One-Bowl Chocolate Cupcakes.
I followed the recipes for the Apple Crisp and Chicken Curry. While they are easy to follow and make, the flavors were a bit lacking for me. That’s not to say they weren’t good; they just needed a boost in the flavor department.
Overall, I think Cooking Class is perfect for any child interested in learning how to cook. There are over 70 recipes, and several offer alternatives to personalize them to your tastes.
This is such an amazing cook book for kids! Easy recipes that advance as you go through it. The pictures are perfect and engaging and the recipes are clear. I even learned some new recipes! This is already in my Amazon cart because we need this book! Great job
My students are going to love this 10th anniversary edition of Cooking Class. The recipes were easy to follow. The pictures are helpful in demonstrating a technique or method. I learned a bit too even though I have taught others how to cook. Each chapter has several recipes each with different degrees of difficulty. This book is useful to a wide variety of ages and ability and can grow with a child as they master cooking techniques. I can see myself trying the recipes on my own as an adult as well. I can't wait to dive in and sample these goodies.
This is a great cookbook for children who are interested in learning how to cook, or at the very least, help out in the kitchen. I really like how the recipes are laid out in increasing order of difficulty within each section. The vibrant photos are eye catching, and very helpful for a child just learning new skills. The reminders about safety and clean up are greatly appreciated from my perspective as an adult whose child enjoyed this book.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Meinung

This is a perfect kid's cookbook! I love that it started with easy no-bake recipes and worked its way up in difficulty levels. It has some really fun ideas, and great, bright pictures! I especially liked the snack sections where child favorites like fruit roll-ups and goldfish are represented with homemade recipes. I'm excited to try some of these out!
