This is a thought-provoking exploration of the complexities of human connection and the spaces we create for refuge in our lives. The author weaves together personal narratives, social commentary, and philosophical insights, offering readers a multifaceted look at what it means to find sanctuary in an increasingly chaotic world.
The narrative is structured around various themes of safety and belonging, with each chapter delving into different aspects of havens—be they physical spaces, emotional states, or community ties.
The book is okay for what it is, but I had completely different expectations, so I was a little let down. The photographs are also underwhelming.
Thank you, NetGalley and Tyndale House Publishers for the ARC.
This is haven: gentle hospitality. So beautiful color and story inside to amused all of us. Enjoy it and I want to share it with all my friends and families.
This is just a BEAUTIFUL book to read, but also put on display in your home. It's filled with tons of inspiration. I was drawn in by the beautiful pictures and the thoughtful storytelling. I think if you are looking into Hygge, Lifegiving homes, or just drawing others into your space when you can love on them and be that safe haven, this book will give you inspiration!
This is so much more than a pretty coffee table book. Liz inspires her readers to embody gentle hospitality wherever life takes them, not just within the four walls of their homes. With stories of volunteering, grocery store encounters, early childhood, and the process of building her family's home—paired with thoughtful prompts and beautiful lifestyle photography—Let There Be Havens is a heartwarming read you'll want to return to again and again, just like an old friend.
Liz Bell Young offers readers a refreshing take on modern day hospitality and our human need for sanctuary. This inspiring narrative of heartfelt experiences, how-to’s and recipes encourages the reader to be purposeful in creating these havens of peace and contentment for themselves and those around them. Young makes each chapter feel like a conversation with an encouraging friend. Her storytelling style of writing will pull at your heartstrings and embolden you to look for ways to intentionally care for others. I devoured this book cover- to -cover but many of these chapters can be reviewed singularly for fresh motivation or inspiration. While I do not think it was the author’s intent to publish a work to be explored by a book discussion club, I do feel that reading this book with friends or a ministry group will spark some amazing discussions and inspire a call to action.
*I received an advance reader copy of this book from NetGalley. This is my honest review.
This book feels like a gentle hug from an old friend, inviting you inside for a cup of tea. It is lovely and I enjoyed reading it; it made me very relaxed and inspired me to have more people over to my house! I love that the stories and tips are easy to follow and this book genuinely wants to help you make an inviting space.
I thought that this title was going to be a "how to" for those wishing to practice hospitality. It's really a book of inspirational stories of how the author has given or received hospitality. It describes in an inspirational way hospitality as a lifestyle. I do recommend this book, I found it very encouraging.
