Stalks by Jenna Moquin is a gripping read that really pulls you in.
Jenna's writing is vivid and keeps you on the edge of your seat.
Overall, it's a haunting and thought-provoking story that sticks with you. If you enjoy thrillers, definitely give it a try!
Super interesting book! Character development for the protagonist was spot on. It wasn't as fast paced as I would have liked, but still, great book, interesting story.
Thanks to netgalley, the publisher and author for the ARC.
I didn’t mind this story at first…lots of action and bizarre country idiots… however when the girl was rescued finally and they told her that she had imagined the whole thing …that is where the story had errors. The girl was restrained for several, days so I. Sure there would have been evidence of that on her ankles, wrists etc so I kind of lost interest. I finished the book, and the ending was kind of predictable.

When Liz's affluent boyfriend Jared Galbraith takes her on a romantic picnic out to a beautiful, secluded spot and pops the question, she wasn't expecting to have their day end in horror. After being stranded, a couple of nice strangers give them a ride back to their old farmhouse with the promise of a phone call. Instead, Liz descends into a hole of terror, a living nightmare where decades old family secrets are uncovered, and Liz realises how much danger she's in. Will she be able to escape? Or is she doomed to be lost in the woods forever?
This story is told through the POV of Liz, she's loving life at the moment and is currently on the way to spend the afternoon with her boyfriend. The afternoon quickly devolves into one of horror and Liz is doing everything she can just to survive. I found the pacing of this story moved really quickly, as most thrillers do. I had to keep reading because I just had to know what was going to happen next. Moquin used the unreliable narrator card with this story, and I feel that it worked brilliantly to keep you guessing and questioning everything. I still have some questions that I didn't get the answers to, and while I'd like to know some of them, this was still a relatively satisfying read. A couple of those unanswered questions were threads that tied into the unreliable narrator trope and helped that become stronger, but that's where the threads were left hanging. I would have loved to have known the truth about the hallway closet incident.
Moquin did a fantastic job of building tension and atmosphere and there were a fair few times that I felt my anxiety rising along with Liz's and I could feel her fear like a living, breathing thing. The fact that at times, she was questioning her own actions, lead to the realism of the story and endeared Liz to me a little bit more. I didn't dislike her, but I also wanted to throttle her a few times. I can definitely understand that people having endured what she had would make questionable decisions, but there were so many different things where she wasn't listening to her gut and wasn't questioning things that she should have been. I did feel for her, and I wanted her to come out the other side mostly unscathed, but she frustrated me a lot as well.
All in all, this was a quick, thrilling read that kept me guessing and kept me on the edge of my seat. I would have liked a few more answers, and I would have liked it to be a bit more on the horror side of things, but I liked it well enough. I'll definitely check out more from this author and she knows how to write a thriller that keeps you up long after you should have been asleep.
The book keeps you hooked on from the very beginning...you can't put the book down. Has lots of surprises and twists. I loved it and for sure recommend it.
I love this but also Liz annoys me "boyfriends moms never like me and it is probably because I am well endowed" (not a direct quote).
Also she's all "I don't know if I want to marry a super rich guy." OMG just marry him, Would you rather work every day of your life? Anyway, I like her more when things start getting scary because she is so dramatic and the celery thing makes me laugh and I love this book so much I might explode from joy.
And the connections and twists omg!
What an ending. This was just so much fun to read!
What a great thriller! Thank you to Freida McFadden who recommended this book to her fans and thanks to the publisher for sending it to me! I loved the book so much and I can’t wait to recommend it to all my friends and coworkers! I will tell my book club they need to read it as well so good!
This was such a good book. I was on the edge of my seat and could not put it down. I did read it in one sitting. I was surprised at some of the twists in this book. I would definitely recommend this book to all my family and friends.
Fast pace, unputdownable read full of suspense and crazy thrills. Twists and turns that keep you moving and you aren't sure which way it might end. A good one if you like a thrill.
This book had a VERY fast pace to it. I read this in one sitting because I just had to know the ending. Beginning with a woman running thru the woods in a bloody, torn wedding dress and then plunging into a series of events to try and understand how she got there. PHEW! The story line was all over the place and there were various random events that didn't seem to add up, but made it entertaining. All in all, quick read with a dash of crazy.
4.5 ⭐️ Stalks was a suspenseful page turner for sure! There were parts that had me afraid & then parts where I wanted to yell at the main character to make smarter decisions. The author did an excellent job setting the scene in a creepy manner. The descriptions will make you cringe, yet you want to keep reading. I now will never have the desire to go on a picnic in the middle of nowhere. Overall, the ending was satisfying. I'd recommend this book & also look for more Jenna Moquin books in the future.
Tense and mesmerizing combination of horror, mystery, and deceit that will keep you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. Non stop tension just grabs you. You may never trust anyone or go into the woods again.
I immediately wanted to read this book after seeing Freida McFadden post about how good it was. Wow, it did not disappoint! I literally did NOT want to put this book down. I couldn’t wait to see what was going to happen. So good!!
Kept me on the edge of my seat and could not put it down. I told my friends that this was a book to look out for and I have definitely found a new favorite author.
Stalks by Jenna Moquin - WOW! This book was fantastic! I did not want to put it down until I found out what happened. I had a 100 different theories in my head but none of them ended up being right. So many twists and turns! Fast, unputdownable read!
I had a hard time putting this book down to go do my daily life events. I read it every chance that I had. It was very involved and suspenseful. I loved the storyline and the characters, even the ones that I hated. It ranks up in my top 20 best of this year so far. I liked her writing style and way she progresses you through the book without prolonging it to where it starts to drag out. It is a well rounded pull you in and keeps you on the edge of your seat book.
A fantastic thriller. I was on the edge of my seat til early morning. Gripping story and well written
I'm so late giving this review but it was so good! The Question is will Liz survive? It will keep you on your toes and turning the pages like your about to rip them out!! It was an amazing book! Short quick read for me which is what I love.
This edge of your seat thriller was read in one sitting. This story took me through very many emotions and had a slight twist at the end. I gasps I gusp at times 😬.
Thank you netgalley and the publisher for this book to read and review. All opinions are my own.
This book was weird and creepy in the best way. I found a little bit of the inner dialogue juvenile but I still found the story to be really good! When Freida McFadden recommends a book you read it!
