I think this was a good book that gave a lot of information about a topic that has become so widely diagnosed. As someone who personally suffers, this book gave some nice insights into the condition but also helps to explain just how much it can vary across individuals. I also appreciated that this was written by an actual dietician.

I have read lots of books, online articles, listened to podcasts about IBS, and I still learned new information from this excellent book. The author is not only a dietician but a long-time sufferer of IBS as well, and she convincingly covers many areas that people should consider when it comes to their individual gut issues. The writing style is scientific but also very relatable. Highly recommended.

Thanks to NetGalley and Green Press for the ARC.

Written by a health professional who has IBS, this book gives you step by step approach to managing your IBS. She emphasizes both the importance of getting a diagnosis from a health professional to managing factors besides diet that contribute to gut problems. She covers taking control by payment attention to your mental health, sleep, and daily movement in addition to diet. She also stresses how important it is to enlist the help of health professionals in this journey (therapist, dietician specializing in IBS). She also looks at some issues that can act like IBS (SIBO, histamine intolerance).

I like her section on diet (low FODMAP), something I've been following for months to heal my gut. Her advice on starting the diet is good (recommends two apps I already rely on). And her details on how to reintroduce foods is very user friendly, i plan to follow what she suggests as I'm at that point in my journey.

It's a very thorough book without getting too deep in the weeds. Highly recommend especially for someone who is just starting out in trying to control their IBS.

I am so thankful for Kirsten Jackson's book, Take Control of your IBS. I have been struggling with managing my IBS for years and after reading this book, I feel more educated, and hopeful about how to take action to control my IBS. While my previous approaches to dealing with my IBS involved trying to implement a low FODMAP diet, I realize that I was missing key components.

Jackson clearly states that there is no cure for IBS, but there are ways to take control of it. She proceeds to provide lifestyle changes that may have a positive impact, not only on IBS, but on your quality of life. These include mental well-being, sleep, movement and nutrition. I appreciated the numerous links at the end of each chapter to tools and resources. I will be revisiting many of them for additional support.

Take Control of your IBS has a detailed section on the low FODMAP diet and resources to successfully implement it. Jackson says that she uses this as a tool to help manage her client's IBS, in conjunction with the other tools discussed.

I appreciated that Jackson also discusses lifestyle, navigating challenging situations, and possible other issues that may present as IBS. I am realizing that there is so much more to managing IBS that simply changing what I eat. Her whole body approach makes sense and gives me hope for my future. Her book has armed me with the tools I need to take control of my IBS.
