This was not what I was expecting. I'm still not sure that I enjoyed it and won't be reading it again. If you're interested in the 70s you may give it a try.

I really struggled to get through this book. While it was intriguing at the start, the story quickly became a saga of getting high and trying to find drugs. This was interspersed with anecdotes of a toxic relationship that I really did not see going anywhere. Not sure what the thesis was here, but not a text I would recommend.

"I don´t believe anyone can truly predict the future. The chances of things happening are equal to the chances of them not happening, so it´s not worth dwelling on what might be. It´s better to focus on here and now, and how to improve what we already have." - this could be the motto of this book, it summarizes the entire book quite well.
The book is set in 1970´s kibbutz and we observe what was it like back then through the eyes of a young man. He focuses on finding and smoking hash for most of the time until he meets Aya - a beautiful but complicated young woman, who reminds me of hippies portrayed in Forest Gump movie. Aya is a free spirit, she does what she wants and when she wants without giving a second thought. Sex, drugs and rock&roll seems to be her way of life. So from the moment these two meet everything starts spinning, it´s an emotional, disastrous rollercoaster. More drugs, more sex, more music, more trouble. This can´t end well.
Dry writing, unlikeable characters, lack of depth. I can´t say I like this book. Also, I think it would be a good idea to mention in the beginning of a book what kibbutz is, because not everyone knows.

Who wouldn’t be curious to delve into a book with a title like this!?
I opened the book eagerly anticipating a glimpse into the 70s on a kibbutz. What could life back then be like in Israel?
The writing was solid and drew me in. I had difficulty that it didn’t progress past the point of drinking coffee, a problem relationship with Aya, and an overabundance of smoking hash, finding hash, buying hash, trading hash, and smoking some more hash. It diverted a little with the MC remembering bits and pieces of the war. Everything in this novel could be reduced into a short story and nothing would be missed. It was long and exceedingly repetitive.

I would recommend this book to anyone who loves reading about smoking hash, drinking coffee, and occasional sex scenes.

I must say,
the book name intrigued me.
I spent my early childhood in the 1970's
nicely written, flowing and interesting.
the author did well to enliven the era and characters.
