I loved this book! Kimberly Brown and the narrators, J. Shani Michaels and Jamie Lincoln Smith brought this book to life.
Audrey, because of past hurts, always put an “expiration date” on men that she was dating but Sullivan came and broke down those walls (literally and physically). After a big mistake, this couple second chance show how love should complement your life and help you grow. Sullivan challenged Audrey to face her fears and doubts over running away from them. This couple grew together which made them so lovable.
I will be adding more of Kimberly Brown’s books to my TBR!
This book was a mix of emotions for me. I laughed my head off, shed a few tears, and turned my face away in discontent.
I loved the theme and how the love between Sully and Audrey evolved. I ended up understanding the reasons for Audrey's insecurities.
I loved Audrey's friends, they were very comical. However, what I didn't like was the way the sex scenes were handled, they were written in a very dirty way. I really like erotic literature, but here it was very explicit. I like to see words being used in a more elaborate and not so direct way.

Narrator: Jaime Lincoln Smith, J. Shani Michaels
Audrey character was a bit hard to handle in the beginning. However, there was growth and she redeemed herself. She was dealing with major insecurities and betrayal. I gave her some grace until she got herself together.
Sully on the other hand was great from beginning to end. He was loyal, dependable and disciplined. He was all about his family even though his dad gave him a hard time.. Even though he witnessed first how bad Audrey’s dates ended, he still gave her a shot. She blew it but circumstances gave them a second chance.
Loved the girl squad and Sully’s twin. All the side characters added fun and insight into the story. I loved the how loyal everyone was to their person. The would fight for them.
I really enjoyed this story and will definitely add this author to my TBR list!
Audrey and Sully are a match made in heaven.
He brings out the best in her as she does the same for him.
There may be some triggers for some but not any for me.
This book is fast paced. I wish it was a little slower as I think the end of the book was rushed.
The narration was pretty good; only problem is the switching from sitting very close to the mic to not being as close. One moment you can feel them in your ear and the next you have to turn up to hear them. Now this may be a me problem or because I got an ARC of this audiobook. So it may be fixed now.
Overall I enjoyed this book I think it’s worth the listen. Also, I would say the spice level is about a 3.
The Expiration Date
by Kimberly Brown
The difficulty of modern romance is convoluted by our expectations. The immediate problem is that people make mistakes and others pay fir those not their own. Being burned once does not mean that every red flag is a fire. Very erotic in the three descriptions of the couples enjoyment of each other.
This was not for me. There was too much telling and not enough showing. Everything was too convenient and I couldn't connect with the characters. The conflict was so small it didn't make sense as to why it was used and so unrealistic to what could have been a great opportunity to explore throughout their relationship but ended so fast. I'm not a fan of instalove connections, which made their "attachment" feel rushed. I did find the narrator's performance a great help in telling this story.
Heart warming 💓 ♥️
This was my first book by Kimberly Brown and it will not be the last. I actually laughed out loud a few times. And I felt that Audrey's family and friends really wanted to slap some sense in her head. Audrey, and Sullivan are great and how they grew to love each other because of the pregnancy is great. The storyline is so relatable...I need to add I listened to this in Audible and the narrators did not disappoint 👏 🙌 👌. I really think A
I sneakily read some reviews before I started reading, and I can see why people didn't like Audrey. I didn't mind her, but I knew she was going to up to something throughout., and once you find out why she is the way that she is, you do kinda feel for her. The premise of the novel was cute and she really did need to find the right man. Sullivan was such a great MMC. I loved that he was caring, and on his business. He did exaclty what he said he was going to do. And I really appreciate a man of his word.
The audiobook was really good, and I did have to evaluate that I did have these folks moaning in my ear while I was cleaning my bathroom, but it was a really good time.
Thank you to Netgalley and Dreamscapes for an audio copy.
This was the absolute cutest thing I’ve read! I smiled, laughed, squealed and kicked my feet the entire time I read this story!
Now, Audrey was indeed the problem but a lesson for us all, the sooner you get out of your own head the better off you will be!
10/10 and the audio was top tier in combination with the ebook.
I listened to this through audiobook.
It was a good read, had some spice in there. The reader did really well with bringing life to the characters. The book does flow a little fast but somehow that’s not a bad thing.
Not the typical American romance novel but is a good African American romance read with your homegirls.
Audrey was a piece of work but this book was amazing. As an African American, it resonated with me and I loved the narrators voice.
This is my first time listening to the work of Kimberly Brown and it was a really good story. Jaime Lincoln Smith and J. Shani Michaels really did this entertaining romance justice.
I chuckled a lot throughout the story because Sully and Audrey had really amusing banter.
Audrey was a serial dater and dumped men at any perceived red flags which her friends affectionally dubbed the expiration date. Audrey was content until she met Sullivan "Sully" who wasn't intimidated by how she discarded men. Sully was fine being a hook up thing even though he clearly wanted more. He practiced patience and understanding while he challenged her to confront and work through issues instead of running from relationship to relationship.
This audiobook made me smile, laugh and look over my shoulder to make sure no one could hear the sex scenes because Sully and Audrey were getting it in!
I will say that Sully's brother Emmanuel was a scene stealer. He was hilarious, a player but a loyal and loving twin brother. He added some levity to certain situations that were emotional and tense.
This story had all the things I enjoy in a good romance, so I definitely plan to read more of this author.
The instant attraction to love and surprise baby romance between Audrey Pilar and Sullivan "Sully" Santiago such an enjoyable and entertaining read. I appreciated the time on page for Audrey and Sullivan to get to know each other and for them to navigate their personal journeys/struggles. My favorite part of the story was the banter between the main and secondary characters. The conversations were realistic and made me laugh. The sex scenes were on the generic side, there was a little too much moaning sounds and talking during these scenes. But these scenes weren't horrible, cringy etc. The chosen narrators were great, I enjoyed their voices and their acting. I'm excited to read more from Kimberly Brown and any books within this series. I took off one star for the combination of this not being a book I would re-read and the how the sex scenes were written. I would recommend this book/audiobook.
So while I did like the plot I did not think it was for me. This book does go by fast since I did listen to it through an audiobook version but even with it as an audiobook it went way too fast for me. Right off the bat she let her trust issues get in the way of her idea of seeing someone because he seemed too good to be true. I don't believe I was the best audience for this story unfortunately.
I would still recommend for someone to see if this book is for you as not everyone has the same taste. The narrators did match their characters I feel like so you will feel immersed into this book!
Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for giving me this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I love the cover of this book, but the story just didn't feel genuine to me. It went WAY too fast.. and the FMC wasn't super likable. While the narration was solid, this book would have greatly benefitted from more character development.
Audrey is always looking for red flags in men and never wanting to settle down with any of the men she came across. But then there was Sullivan a sexy bar owner who has his eye on her. Even though he sees all the men she has turned away he still wants to get to know her and find out what she is all about. They have a how spicy few dates then Audrey sees it, the red flag. And she ghosts him. Sullivan does not know what he did wrong or why she stopped talking to him. One day while Sullivan is taking his sister to her baby doctors appointment he sees Audrey, and his world starts to crash down around him. Sullivan parents think she’s just after his money but he knows better than that. Over time Sullivan and artery talk it out and agree to start over and work on getting to know each other dispute a baby girl growing inside Audrey. They grow closer together and love each other the way true lovers do. And Sullivan thinks of the most creative way to ask Audrey to marry him.
The Expiration Date by Kimberly Brown is an amazing romance story. I love how it went against the conventional method of the romance checklist while still being true to the genre. However, I don't read a ton of romance books, so it may be that I'm just out of the loop.
I like how things start but wanted to spend more time with Audrey dating other guys to let us see how it all goes down at Sullivan's tavern. Regardless, I like the chemistry and rapport these two have. The best thing about this book is that the messiness is dealt with early on so we can just focus on Sully and Audrey building a relationship together. I love this! However, I didn't like how often "fat" is used as a negative way to be and that HIPPA wasn't considered when coming up with the reveal. There are plenty of other ways it could be dealt at the same place. The unrealistic/unprofessional aspect of this took me out of the scene.
J. Shani Michaels as Audrey and Jaime Lincoln Smith as Sully complemented each other perfectly. I enjoyed listening to them both.
I rate The Expiration Date 4.5 stars rounded up to 5. The things I didn't like are trivial when it comes down to it. Regardless how much I like it, I'm not certain I will come back to the series.
Thank you to Dreamscape Media for providing me with an ALC.
Overall: 4
Spicy: 4
Finding love when you least expect it is what this book is about. The FMC has a reputation of dumping men at a local coffee shop after dating for a few weeks/months. The most recent relationship ended with guy calling the FMC out of her name and threatening her. The owner of the coffee shop steps in the defend the woman's honor. In doing so the finally notice reach other romantically and he ask her to give him a chance to show not all guys walking red flags. There situationship goes on a roller coaster of emotional twist and turns but it does turn into a HEA. You have amazing spicy time, connections and writing.
The only reason I didn't rate a five was it was a tad too urban for my liking, but that's just my opinion. If I was into URBAN fic this would have been 5 stars easily.
huge thank you to dreamscape media & NetGalley for this amazing arc & platform. This audibook was funny yet cute, steamy & entertaining. First male narrator I have even enjoyed. This tone in his voice just matched so well with the character. Definitely enjoying this, their first interaction was so intense and sexy at the same time. Here are some of my thoughts while reading this; The friendss well brother and friend wasted no time getting it on I like that .the first date 5 stars alone, the vibes it’s so cute but still steamy and sexy.the messy ex !! Like I can understand her trust issues in future relationships, brings up memories Lmaoo bad ones but I’m healed now💀. Wow five months later that’s alot of time, like toooo much time. Nah I don’t like how she wasn’t telling him , keeping the pregnancy a secret.nah nah can’t be all sad and crying when you choose to keep the pregnancy a secret for months & yes I’m mad.
Overall I enjoyed this story & can’t wait to tell everyone about it .
OMG this story was so good! I finished it in less than two days. I loved Audrey and Sully. Audrey’s issues with love and being a serial monogamist were relatable. The lessons she learned during the journey of this story hit close to home for me. Sully was a stand up guy! Intentional , honest, sweet and “serious” (as he put it). The narrators were amazing and portrayed the story so well. The love scenes were hot! The dramatic moments had me clutching my pearls and screaming. I’m happy they made it through them on to their happily ever after! Now we need to know about Immanuel and Aria! Amazing job Author & Narrators! I absolutely loved it!
