The title is bittersweet and telling. Nantuckets’s chief of police is retiring. It is at his retirement that his last case comes to him and his community. His replacement is willing to take a sideline position initially. It all began with the arrival of the Richardsons. A couple from down under that bought a house so long on the market it had its own nickname. The cast of characters all have ties to this quaint and storied hamlet. A place where kids are sailing as young as possible well into their retirement. The arrival of the Richardsons brings to the surface long simmering rivals and hurts within the well heeled. Chief Ed is determined to have his Swan Song be a memorable testament to years of service to a community he holds dear.

Thank you to NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read an advanced copy of Swan Song. Elin Hilderbrand never disappoints and this book was no exception! I'm sad to see that she is retiring! Swan Song follows the story of Coco, a newcomer to Nantucket, who was hired to work for a new wealthy family, the Richardsons . Several characters from past books are included in this story. Coco befriends Chief Kapenash's daughter Kacy who is back for the summer. The Chief is getting ready to retire and Blond Sharon is going through a divorce. The Richardsons throw several lavish parties and become the IT couple of the summer. Everyone wants to be invited to these parties that become more exclusive. Near the end of summer, the Richardson's house burns down and Coco is missing. The Chief takes on one last case to try to figure out what happened.

Classic Elin Hildebrand! I didn’t want this to end, and I couldn’t put it down! I loved that this took place over just a couple of months, it was super fast paced and such a fun summer read. I guess we will see if we get more Nantucket books in the future, but if not, this was a great finale with throwbacks to so many previous books and characters.

I appreciated the ARC and will order this book for our library when released. Another perfect Nantucket summer with complex characters, sticky situations, and a romance or two. I love Elin Hilderbrand’s books. This one did not disappoint.

Classic Hilderbrand--enough said. I loved "reconnecting" with some of the characters from previous novels--seeing what has happened to them and where they are now in their lives. However, there are now new Nantucket residents for them to interact with--some not so wonderful, but at least interesting. The book went back and forth between past and present, which made the story roll out in bits and pieces and kept the reader on her/his toes to fit the pieces together. As usual Ms. Hilderbrand's descriptions are pitch perfect, her party descriptions are so enticing and my mouth was watering for the food and drink. I understand that this may be the last Nantucket book...one can only hope that she changes her mind, it won't be summer without an Elin Hilderbrand book!

Already a big fan of Elin’s Nantucket books, this was a great finale! From the description of the characters to the drama and action of that particular summer to the vivid descriptions of Nantucket it’ll have you yearning to book a summer holiday to Nantucket ASAP! I loved how many old favorites made another appearance in this book like Blond Sharon, the Chief, and Fast Eddie. The newly introduced characters joined in seamlessly. Loved this book and the literary references throughout as well as Mary Oliver’s poem! Thank you for this advanced copy!

5 stars!!!!
Thank you Net Galley for this ARC of Elin Hilderbrand’s new book. The queen of beach reads is back to transport you to the island of Nantucket. Where everyone knows everyone, a new couple has just arrived and bought one of the most expensive houses on the island. This new couple has entangled themselves with all the classic families on the island, throwing lavish parties. But are they really who they appear to be?

Swoon! This one is so good! I love Elin Hilderbrand books and after reading this gem, I want to go back and read them all. So many cameos from her other books pop up in this story and I love when authors make their characters intersect like that! The details, the music references, the plot…Hilderbrand truly is the queen of the beach read. I loved it and I want to visit Nantucket! I feel like I have friends there! I just reviewed Swan Song by Elin Hilderbrand. #NetGalley

Excellent relaxing beach read. Always enjoy the way she writes character development. She is such a talented writer. Elin Hilderbrand never disappoints! I think that "The Rumor" may forever be my favorite but this definitely is in the top favorites.

Not a Swan Song, more like a Turkey Screech.
I was really disappointed in Swan Song. I've liked so many of Elin's books and always looked forward to them.
The last few have injected politics into the fray, which totally distracts from the story.
And it's as if her last book (supposedly final book, though she admits in the acknowledgements it might not be her last....The Tom Brady of Fiction?) she thought, "well, if I'm going out, might as well inject all my political ideals into the book!
We had to slog through environmentalism, racism, lesbianism, inter-racial couples, and painting Southern upbringing as typical backwoods, backwards, blue collar, stupid people.
But it's not like any of those topics helped the story or fit, it's as if she was using those topics to say, "Look how elitist and progressive I am!"
She also had explict sex scenes which I don't remember in any of her previous books. And though there were only a few, WHY? A good author is able to leave details to the imagination of the reader.
Once she got passed the progressive notes, the book turned into a delightful usual Elin novel. We focused on the characters, their drama, and things were going well in the middle of the book, and then it turned the last few chapters.
Extremely rushed.
The characters became caricatures.
The ending was neatly wrapped up in three pages.
Super disappointed.
I usually can't put her books down...this one I put down so many times at being put off by the various things I mentioned, and then literally rolled my eyes at the ending.
If you're a die hard Elin fan, by all means, you'll love it.
If you are a discerning reader that dislikes tropes, skip it and choose any book of Elin's but Swan Song...

I was really unimpressed with this book which was surprising since I have loved most of her other books. It meandered to much and the plot line was hard to follow or feel like there was one.

Special thanks to NetGalley for the advanced reader copy of this book. I am a huge Elin Hilderbrand fan. I love her character development and how she can make you feel apart of her settings. This book, was a little slow for me however and didn't really build as much as I would have liked. Overall a decent read, but not her best.

The events of this book may transpire over the course of a summer but I zoomed through it in a weekend. A fitting ending to Hilderbrand's Nantucket novels.

The Swan Song is Elin Hilderbrand's finale to the Nantucket series, and it goes out with a bang!

All of our favorite Nantucket characters are back, It is the final summer of Chief Ed's career as police chief as he readies for retirement. Things get interesting as the mysterious couple, the Richardson's move onto the island and take over the social scene with their over-the -top parties. We also meet newcomer, Coco, who is hired as a personal concierge to this couple.

Hilderbrand weaves story magic with her richly drawn characters and suspenseful storyline. Take your time and savor every moment of this engaging and entertaining book!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy of this book.

I really enjoyed what might be Elin's final story, Swan Song, and I love that she's going out at the top and not beating a dead horse like some authors (Evanovich, etc.). Swan Song was narrated by an unknown character in the vein of Bridgerton. It's a story of excess and fitting in and trying to better your life. The characters were likeable (even the bad guys) and the plot was interesting. It was a great, quick read.

So appreciative to receive an arc of Elin Hildebrand's final book and so sad to have read the final story about the inhabitants of her Nantucket island. In this book, a new couple buys a mansion which ends up buying to the ground and their employee goes missing. Their questionable behavior causes the island residents to question their involvement. A perfect ending to Hildebrand's career and swan song to her well beloved characters.

I think that Elin Hilderbrand’s stories get better with each book and Swan Song is no exception. This was a fun, suspenseful story about a personal assistant and a wealthy couple on the island (of course) of Nantucket. Hilderbrand is a serious storyteller- I think that calling any of her books “beach reads” do not give her enough credit. Her characters are relatable, interesting, and introspective. And she keeps coming up with new storylines that are creative and inventive. Swan Song has all of that, along with a surprise ending. This is another Hilderbrand book that you won’t be able to put down.
Thank you NetGalley for an ARC.
