The events of this book may transpire over the course of a summer but I zoomed through it in a weekend. A fitting ending to Hilderbrand's Nantucket novels.
The Swan Song is Elin Hilderbrand's finale to the Nantucket series, and it goes out with a bang!
All of our favorite Nantucket characters are back, It is the final summer of Chief Ed's career as police chief as he readies for retirement. Things get interesting as the mysterious couple, the Richardson's move onto the island and take over the social scene with their over-the -top parties. We also meet newcomer, Coco, who is hired as a personal concierge to this couple.
Hilderbrand weaves story magic with her richly drawn characters and suspenseful storyline. Take your time and savor every moment of this engaging and entertaining book!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy of this book.
I really enjoyed what might be Elin's final story, Swan Song, and I love that she's going out at the top and not beating a dead horse like some authors (Evanovich, etc.). Swan Song was narrated by an unknown character in the vein of Bridgerton. It's a story of excess and fitting in and trying to better your life. The characters were likeable (even the bad guys) and the plot was interesting. It was a great, quick read.
Another perfect Nantucket no with complex characters, sticky situations, and a romance or two. I love Elin Hilderbrand’s books. This one did not disappoint.
So appreciative to receive an arc of Elin Hildebrand's final book and so sad to have read the final story about the inhabitants of her Nantucket island. In this book, a new couple buys a mansion which ends up buying to the ground and their employee goes missing. Their questionable behavior causes the island residents to question their involvement. A perfect ending to Hildebrand's career and swan song to her well beloved characters.
I think that Elin Hilderbrand’s stories get better with each book and Swan Song is no exception. This was a fun, suspenseful story about a personal assistant and a wealthy couple on the island (of course) of Nantucket. Hilderbrand is a serious storyteller- I think that calling any of her books “beach reads” do not give her enough credit. Her characters are relatable, interesting, and introspective. And she keeps coming up with new storylines that are creative and inventive. Swan Song has all of that, along with a surprise ending. This is another Hilderbrand book that you won’t be able to put down.
Thank you NetGalley for an ARC.
Great book by Elin Hilderbrand. Storyline went back and forth quite a bit, but was easy enough to follow. I enjoyed seeing the transformation of the Blond Sharon in this book. It was hard to put down ! Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC copy.
Hilderbrand has a formula, and thankfully, for her readers, that formula WORKS. I read this book in two settings, speeding through to find out what happened to Bull, Leslee, Coco, Kacy..... and to all the beloved characters of previous Hilderbrand Nantucket novels. I found the ending a little sad (no spoilers here, though!) BUT also found it touching and incredibly fitting. A true "Swan Song" of a book. That said, although I was aware going into this one that it would be the last one based on these characters, I was saddened to read that Hilderbrand is going into retirement. I had a genuine existential crisis when I realized that my go-to summer books will no longer BE my go-to..... I wish Elin Hilderbrand well, but I also hope she knows her readers will be waiting with open arms if she decides to write further novels. I, for one, will forever read anything she writes, and I know from working at my bookstore for 9 years that I am not alone..... a wonderful ending to a delightful series; I couldn't have asked for anything more.
Nantucket isn’t ready for the Richardsons. Their lavish parties and over the top lifestyle caught everyone’s attention from the minute they stepped foot on the island, but this couple isn’t all they say they are. When their house burns to the ground the same night their personal assistant goes missing all the hidden secrets will finally come to light.
I had previously told myself that I was going to wait to read this one so I could savor every second because I knew it was the last. Well....less than 24 hours later and I failed. To say I devoured this book is an understatement. I loved the callbacks and references to characters and events that have happened in other Nantucket books (Winter Stroll,! The Matchmaker). SWAN SONG is the perfect ending to the Nantucket series and though I’m crying for some of the characters I’m also laughing and smiling.
The book itself had a great story and I loved the characters This is the perfect summer read
Swan Dive is the final book in the Nantucket series. It features some familiar characters from previous books, as well as the beautiful island itself. The book offers a perfect blend of romance, mystery, and drama. Hilderbrand brings the island to life as we witness the police chief's last summer before his retirement. The mystery element adds a fun twist to the story, although it was relatively easy to solve. IThe elegant and lavish parties at the Richardsons were also an entertaining element of the story, showing how people will go to great lengths to fit in or gain recognition and how they navigate the consequences. Overall, Swan Dive is an enjoyable way to end the series, with Hilderbrand wrapping it up perfectly.
Thank you to NetGalley and to Little Brown and Company for giving me a copy of the book.
Swan Song by Elin Hilderbrand is a captivating conclusion to her beloved Nantucket novels, delivering a tale of drama, along with the enduring spirit of a community facing change. Against the backdrop of Nantucket's beauty, Hilderbrand explores themes of wealth, privilege, and the bonds that hold a community together. The novel is not only a thrilling mystery, but also a poignant reflection on the passage of time. As Swan Song brings closure to Hilderbrand's Nantucket series, readers will find themselves immersed in a world they have come to love, with characters who feel like old friends. The novel is a testament to the author’s skill as a storyteller, and her ability to create richly drawn characters and vivid settings that stay with readers long after the final page. This book is a fitting farewell to an author who has captured the hearts of many with her enchanting tales of Nantucket. Her novels will be dearly missed, but their impact will continue to resonate with readers for years to come.
Though Elin Hilderbrand isn't an author I usually read, this book has made me want to go back and read all of her books! She offers her readers the feeling of living in a small beach town with all of its ups, its downs, and its whirlwind's of drama. Swan Song a slice of beach life with something for everyone.
Elin Hiderbrand has been one of my favorite authors since I picked up her first book. I’ve never missed one since, and I’ve never been disappointed! Once again, possibly for the last time, she has written a glorious novel about lives during a summer on her beloved Nantucket.
The catalyst is the decision of a wealthy, mysterious and bizarre couple buying an iconic house on the island with plans of storming the social structure. Pulled in their wake is a young woman, Coco, who believes they will connect her to her aspirations as a screenwriter. Hilderbrand connects her to the struggling daughter of the town’s chief of police.
Coco works as personal concierge to this couple and is privy to the goings on in this mansion. The book is full to the brim with beautiful vignettes of over the top parties and fascinating stories about the residents of the island. A perfect amount of suspense is stirred into the plot, making this an utterly satisfying and enjoyable final (oh no) novel in this series
As always, thank you Netgalley for this delightful novel.
This is a quick read with a plethora of characters. Keeping track of those characters was not easily accomplished. Some of their names were off putting also. That being said, this is a novel about Nantucket and the fictional characters who call this island home. Enjoy. From Netgalley
I'm a big Elin Hilderbrand fan, and I was so sad to hear that this is her last book(?). I'm sure I'm not alone, as she has so many devoted readers, and for good reason. Swan Song is everything an Elin Hilderbrand reader is looking for, and even though it is the last book, it is also truly a standalone, so new readers would find it a great introduction to her books. I truly look forward to recommending this title.
I have fallen in love with Nantucket through Elin Hilderbrand's book and I'm sad to see them ending. This ending was perfection!
How can this be Elin Hilderbrand's last book?!?! Say it ain't so! Thank you NetGalley for the DRC.
As an avid Hilderbrand reader, I once again found myself happily immersed in a Nantucket summer. While HIlderbrand's take on Nantucket never really changes - the beaches, the restaurants, the town gossip... 'Swan Song' is a little different from her previous books. This one is a mystery. Hilderbrand uses different voices as she alternates from the past to present.
My one criticism of the book was how quickly she wrapped the storyline up. While the 'whodunit' was not necessarily a surprise, it did seem a little too pat, leaving some unanswered questions.
But overall I loved it! Hilderbrand does a terrific job of bringing the island to life, making it real. We all know people just like her characters, some you like, some you cross the street to avoid. The difference is her characters are on an island most readers can only fantasize about.
I know I'm not alone when I say I'm going to miss keeping up with Nantucket happenings. You know what would be great fun? Publish Sharon's story!
I am an admitted Hildebabe. I’ve read all of her novels and short stories, follow her on instagram, and listen to her podcast. As sad as I am to see her retire, there is no better way to go out on top than Swan Song. Mixing old Nantucket favorites with new deeply developed characters is what Elin does best. The description of setting is unmatched, making everyone want to summer in Nantucket. I’ve looked forward to every novel she’s published because they are just a fun escape into another world, both of the wealthy and your average Joe (or Ed in this case), reminiscent of my days watching soap operas, always wanting to tune in to see what happens next. There will definitely be a joke in publishing until the next Queen of the beach read is crowned.
All of Elin Hilderbrand's favorite Nantucket characters are back again in her newest novel, Swan Song. In the final summer of Chief Ed's career as Chief of Police, a new couple moves to the island to stir things up. The Richardsons and their personal assistant Coco are just what the island need to spice things up. Their themed parties and fancy lifestyle draw everyone's attention. Will they get a coveted hand-delivered invitation to one of the Richardson's infamous parties? However, the people of Nantucket soon learn that these invitations come at a cost.
Once again, Elin Hilderbrand does not disappoint! The old characters we all know as friends are back. In addition, we gain some new ones that we will all love to hate! If you love Hilderbrand's books as much as I do, spend this summer reading Chief Ed's Swan Song. It's the perfect summer read. Thank you NetGalley for an arc of one of my favorite author's books.
