A nice wrap up to a series that has been a consistent fun read for me in the summer months. Some of the issues I had were with relatability within the characters but I enjoyed the thriller twist to this one! Changed up the old formula and made it a little fresh!
Sorry I am late in reviewing this title. Sadly, this book fell very flat for me and I did not care for it. I will continue to recommend older titles by Elin, like the Blue Bistro. This story did not feel new to me and I found the characters unlikable.
I've been reading Elin Hilderbrand's books for years and years and I look forward to virtually visiting Nantucket every year. Swan Song is supposedly Hilderbrand's final book and I was looking forward to one last visit to Nantucket. There were parts of this book that I loved and characters that I adored, but there were also some characters and story lines that I just didn't love. I loved finding the Easter Eggs from all of the her other books and also revisiting some characters from the past. Overall, this was a good ending to Hilderbrand's Nantucket books and I will certainly miss it!
What's not to love in an Elin HIlderbrand Nantucket novel? I cried reading Hilderbrand's last Nantucket novel, and boy did she not disappoint. A familiar cast of characters made cameos in this least novel, as well as some island newcomers as well. The novel follows new arrivals, the Richardsons who purchase a Lavish 22 million dollar home on Nantucket. The Islanders are instantly intrigued by this new couple who throw extravagant parties all summer long. Retiring police chief Ed Kapenesh is spending his last summer working and will end his career investigating a fire that destroys the Richardsons massive home. Hildebrand does what she does best and does not disappoint her many fans. For anyone who loves a good beach Read or just a good story!
Swan Song truly is Elin Hilderbrand's swan song of her novel writing career. Her last in a series of Nantucket-based novels, Swan Song tells the tale of the island's famous police officer and his upcoming retirement and how his life is interwoven with the rest of the island's population.
A bittersweet novel, as there aren't any new Hilderbrand novels set in Nantucket, but a worthy way for her to end her career.
This summer, I took a deep dive into Elin Hilderbrand’s Nantucket novels by reading The Castaways, The Rumors, and her final book in the series, Swan Song. 🌊📚
The Castaways was packed with so much drama that I couldn’t help but tell my husband about the characters as if they were real people! 😅 The final novel, Swan Song, brought everything full circle with familiar faces, meddling characters, and nods to events from her other books. I definitely think that reading all 3 of these recommended novels really enhanced my experience with this one. It was a fantastic way to finish the series. I will miss blonde Sharon!🎉
One last hurrah for Elin Hilderbrand. Characters from several previous books appear again in this one where an unusual couple descends upon Nantucket and tries to get into the inner circle of the community by throwing lavish parties. I don’t think this one would have been as good if you hadn’t read most of her prior books but then again it was her Swan Song.
Swan Song by Elin Hilderbrand is the final book of the author’s bestselling Nantucket series.
Still, though, it’s a goodbye to summer beach reading set in Nantucket, at least from Elin. I came to her novels late in her career and I have fairly enjoyed them all. Honestly, I don’t love her books, I think they’re fine and entertaining but it always takes me a bit to really get into her stories. Still, I found them a completely pleasant read during the summer.
I imagined it would feel almost impossible to know how to wrap up such a long-running series. So I commend her for this impressive writing career. I’m not sure if any story could live up to the hype and expectations of a finale.
So while there are areas I didn’t love, all in all, it was an entertaining read. And in the end, what more do you need out of a summer story, right?

This is book 4 in the Nantucket series, and can be read as a stand alone. It does wrap up the series nicely with updates from all the previous books. Chief of Police Ed Kapanesh is set to retire until a major fire in town and the disappearance of his daughter's best friend has him postponing. A 22-million-dollar summer home, recently purchased by the flashy new couple in town, the Richardsons, has burned to the ground. The Richardsons are far from hurt—in fact, they're out on the water, throwing a lavish party on their yacht—but when news of the fire reaches them, they discover that their personal assistant has vanished. The Chief is well-acquainted with the Richardsons, and the trouble they have caused intown. Dealing with his health issues isn't helping him solve the arson and MIA friend of the family. Elin never lets me down with great characters and plots.
I loved this book. Hilderbrand's books are always so engrossing and this definitely was too. There are so many different characters, yet she writes in a way that makes it easy to keep everyone straight. They are interesting and complex yet real. The drama and humor is nicely balanced and it's just truly a fun and fast read.
Thank you to Little, Brown and Company and NetGalley for the ARC.
Book four in Nantucket series. Overall ok story, but I felt everything was described a little too much for my liking.
A great final book in the series. Could have been better but overall a good book and great for summer, I love Elon Hildrebrand and hope she decides to continue writing summer beach reads. Interested in reading the book she writes with her daughter.
Elin Hilderbrand is a must read and an important Author for Librarians, all patrons fall in love with Nantucket and Elin's style of writing. It is the perfect recommendation.
I want to begin this review by saying that I haven't yet read an Elin Hilderbrand novel that I haven't thoroughly enjoyed. Elin has a knack for writing the perfect summery beach read, but in a way that is so much more than *just* a beach read. Her novels have so much depth to them, and Swan Song is no different. However, this is a 4 star read for me versus a typical 5 that I give her books.
I know that Swan Song is/can be read as a standalone, although I wish that I read the other three "Nantucket" novels first. I was meeting all of these characters for the first time, and I've since learned that some of the characters had made appearances in the prior Nantucket novels.
I enjoyed the multiple POVs, but I will admit that it took me a little while to get the hang of who was who and how they were all connected to one another. Once I did though, I was invested! I loved getting to know all of the characters on Nantucket and was invested in the dynamic between Coco and Casey. I was hooked trying to learn more about the Richardsons and why they were truly on the island.
This may not be my most favorite Elin novel, but it sure was enjoyable!
TLDR: if you like Hilderbrand, you'll like this book. It's escapist and soapy and a lot of fun, and as someone who has never read a book from her Nantucket series, I had no trouble jumping into this book and getting a handle on world, characters, and story. The perfect summer read.
Elin Hilderbrand knocked it out of the park for her last novel! She is a go to author for me, but I had high hopes going into this book knowing she is retiring. Hilderbrand has a way of making you feel connected to all of the characters, involving you so deep into their stories you feel like you are there too.
Elin Hilderbrand is an autobuy for me, I just love her books so much and always read at least one in the summer. As expected, this was a fun book filled with drama, secrets and a large, colorful cast. The story is told from multiple POVs and jumps around a lot, but it was easy enough to follow. Coco's story was definitely my favorite and I loved when we were in her sections, which felt like most of the book. Some of the side stories felt like noise and took away from the flow - sorry Blonde Sharon, I didn't mind your romance plot in the present day but I could have done without the walks down history lane. Leslie was such a fun villain to dislike and added so much fun drama to the story. There was so much build up to what happened the night of the fire and I did find the answer to be a bit anticlimactic - I just wanted more of an explosion once the truth came out! But it did feel like everyone's story lines were wrapped up nicely and I do appreciate that, especially at the end of a series.
My only issue was the amount of characters in this one - I had trouble keep them all straight at times. Despite the large quantity, I did find them to be well developed and each have individual personalities and traits which is such a feat. She created a whole town of people! I haven't read any of the prior books in the Nantucket series so I went into this one completely blind - it did make it a tad hard for me to become attached to the characters since I felt like I lacked a lot of backstory, so definitely a mistake on my part. I do wish I read at least one prior to this one, but like a said, a me problem! I still enjoyed this book and think it can be read as a standalone - I definitely recommend this one to Elin fans, especially if you've read prior books in the series!
3.5 stars rounded up!
One of the highlights of every summer reading is Elin’s newest book. Swan song no exception. The characters and story line are fantastic - have regularly recommended to patrons throughout the summer to add to the top of their TBR list
This was Hilderbrand's last Nantucket novel and it felt like she was done. If I had to read "white-shell driveway" one more time, I was going to scream. There seemed to be no originality, just a lot of name-dropping (which has been typical of her recent books) and weird perspectives. This book didn't give a character at the beginning of each chapter, but it still took on that weird omnipresent narrator that she likes to use.
The story follows around multiple characters and none of them are particularly interesting as they aren't developed. Coco is a new character as are the Richardsons, a stereotyped couple that purchases a house on Nantucket and then the house burns down. Others are mentioned in and out but there is a slight mystery and lots of drama on Nantucket.
Swan Song" by Elin Hilderbrand is a breathtaking finale to her Nantucket series, blending high drama with the island's charm. In this captivating tale, the arrival of the wealthy Richardsons upends the lives of Chief of Police Ed Kapenash, divorcee Sharon, and the entire Nantucket community. Their extravagant lifestyle and mysterious background set the stage for a gripping narrative filled with opulence, intrigue, and suspense.
Hilderbrand's storytelling prowess shines through as she navigates the complexities of her characters' lives against the backdrop of Nantucket's sun-soaked beauty. The novel's rich tapestry of glittering parties, personal dilemmas, and island secrets creates a compelling read that captures the essence of her beloved setting.
It's with a heavy heart that we bid farewell to this enchanting series. Hilderbrand’s departure from Nantucket leaves fans longing for more stories set in this picturesque world. "Swan Song" not only provides a satisfying conclusion but also reaffirms why Nantucket has been such a cherished setting in her novels.
