Elin Hilderbrand novels are the iconic signal of summer! I have enjoyed the Nantucket series and was so, so excited to read this one (albeit the end of an era). This may be an unpopular opinion but the story completely disappointed me. I really struggled to get through it. The beginning started out strong and sucked me in, then the storylines had so much going on that I started to lose focus and interest.

I will say that I freaking loved Blonde Sharon and Chief Ed! Their narratives had me enthralled and truly kept me going here to the very end.

If you’ve read this one, what do you think?!

Another great read by a great author! Just what I needed and can't wait for more! Elin Hilderbrand is one of my favorite authors!

How sad to know that this is the author's last novel to take place on the Cape, but she certainly goes out on that high note.
Once again, the story is riveting and the characters engaging. She always has the correct balance of tension and romance that makes you want to read from beginning to end in one sitting, if you can.
I, especially, found the ending so poignant. I don't want to spoil it for anyone but, suffice it to say, the title of this last book is perfect.

3.5 stars rounded down.

There’s nothing new here in Elin Hilderbrand’s latest (and apparently last - swan song!) summer Nantucket novel, but that was fine with me: I enjoy the heady mix of intrigue, local insider knowhow, brand names, gossip, and well-developed characters, many of whom have appeared in earlier books.

We know very early on that a grand house has burnt down and a young woman has gone missing. The book traces back through the months leading up to this and it’s the last case (also swan song!) of Ed Kapernash, the retiring chief of Nantucket police.

The central drivers of all the happenings in the novel are Leslee and Bull Richardson. They’re nouveau Nantucket and they make quite a splash: their parties, their ability to get even the hardest reservations, and their apparently endless amounts of money. They’ve bought 888 Pocomo despite its imminent collapse into the sea but it’s the perfect place to entertain and impress. Leslee, in particular, wiggles her way into the upper strata of the island’s year-round social life, despite some eyebrow raising behavior.

There is a lot more plot and a lot more characters than this but if you’ve read an Elin Hilderbrand Nantucket novel before, it will all be comfortingly familiar. If you haven’t, this isn’t a bad place to start.

Thanks to Little Brown and Netgalley for the digital review copy.

Oh man, I almost put off reading this just so I would have one more Nantucket novel waiting for me, but I’m so glad I read it! Swan Song is CLASSIC Elin Hilderbrand— beautiful imagery, an intriguing mystery, characters that are somehow lovable but not always likable. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t cry multiple times reading it, both because of the content and the knowledge that this will be my last trip to Nantucket with one of my favorite writers. This book defines infinity stars for me.

While I’m sorry to hear that Swan Song will be Elin Hilderbrand’s final Nantucket book, I’m happy to report that it’s an absolute gem of a story that is sure to be a treat for Hilderbrand fans, old and new.

Police Chief Ed Kapenash, who we’ve seen in many of the earlier books, is finally ready to retire. His daughter Casey has returned home for a visit and he’s looking forward to spending time with her. Around the same time, a wealthy couple, the Richardsons, have also arrived in Nantucket, along with Coco, their personal concierge. They move into the biggest mansion on the island, flash their money all over town, and throw elite, lavish parties that all of the residents, whether they want to admit it or not, are dying to be invited to.

Coco and Casey become fast friends, so when the Richardson’s house mysteriously burns to the ground and Coco goes missing, Chief Ed delays his retirement to work this one last case and find out what has happened to his daughter’s friend.

When I tell you this book completely sucked me into the lives of these characters, I am not exaggerating. Nobody writes and develops their characters quite like Hilderbrand. I read it in a couple of sittings and was just mesmerized by the Richardsons and all of the drama that they churned up as soon as they arrived in Nantucket.

Filled with secrets, lies, betrayals, forbidden romance, heartbreak, and just so much more, Swan Song is the perfect Nantucket series finale. It not only solidified my love for Hilderbrand’s storytelling, but it has me excited to read whatever she writes next!

An incredible wrap up to the Nantucket series. This is the final book of the series and the author has knocked it out of the park. She has saved the final book for the sheriff who was a played a part in all of the other books of the series. This book like all of her other ones makes you want to go to experience Nantucket. It does show the backstabbing side of social climbers however friendship seems to trump all in this book. A great book to pick up and enjoy this summer.

Hearing that a "beach read" was enthusiastically recommended recently by the editor of the New York Times Book Review was a bit surprising. But so was learning that the prolific author Elin Hilderbrand (The Five Star Weekend) is going to retire after the publication of her latest book set in Nantucket, the aptly named SWAN SONG. This is a great, suspenseful summer read which features Coco, a young woman with all of the energy her name implies. In the hopes of getting her screenplay produced, she has bluffed her way into a personal concierge position with a wealthy investor, Bull Richardson and his wild, party-loving wife, Leslee. The couple is new to Nantucket and purchase a huge home and yacht as they try to get accepted at an exclusive club. As Hilderbrand's narrative switches between the beginning and end of the summer, she employs some foreshadowing amongst her vivid descriptions of the excesses (imported Almalfi lemons, anyone?). With a touch of romance and plenty of mystery, SWAN SONG received a starred review from Kirkus and was a LibraryReads Hall of Fame title for June. If you are looking for a diverting summer read, add SWAN SONG to your to-be-read pile now.

Another Nantucket bestseller by Elin Hilderbrand. When the mysterious Richardsons buy a 22-million-dollar summer home in Nantucket, everyone seems to get swept up in their parties, drama, and mystery. When their house burns to the ground and they employee goes missing, secrets begin to come out.

Great, fun read. The last of the Nantucket novels.

*I received an advanced reader’s copy of this book from NetGalley and Little, Brown and Company in exchange for my honest review

Another fun summer read! Hilderbrand's Nantucket books scream of summer and this one even more than the rest. Is it truly her swan song? I'm skeptical but I don't complain if we get more beach reads like this.

Sadly, this is the last book written by the Queen of Nantucket, but she went out on top! This book is the fourth in the Nantucket series, but can be read as a standalone. All of Elin Hilderbrand’s books instantly transport you to the setting and you feel as if you’re a part of the characters and action. Her books reel you in early and keep you turning the pages until the very end!

This is an end of an era and Elin Hilderbrand closed the chapter brilliantly. I will miss these books, but am glad Swan Song is the goodbye to this genre her fans deserved.

I was not aware that this was part of a series. I love Elin Hilderbrand and her writing style. I am not going back to read the first ones!

Elin's books are always an auto-read for me! Summer officially starts when I start reading Elin's latest book each summer! This read was bittersweet knowing it was her final one, but I was so excited to dive into it. "Swan Song" was a fun read with all the previous characters and did not disappoint. Add Swan Song to your pool bag this summer!

As the Chief of police plans retirement due to health concerns, a tragedy strikes the island. Ed is only days away from retirement, is this investigation his swan song? A couple, the Richardsons, blaze onto the island and stir up quite the scandals with parties at their mansion and on their yacht. Their personal concierge, Coco, gets all the behind the scenes drama. There is no limit to what the Richardsons will pay to be popular, but at what cost?

This was an interesting beach read by author Elin Hilderbrand. I love how all the characters are introduced in the beginning and how all of their lives become intertwined, as is often the case in small town settings. It twisted to places I did not see coming, and the ending left me a little breathless, but I did enjoy becoming immersed in the characters lives.

I think it is not my favorite of Hilderbrand's books, but I did enjoy reading it. I don't find the storyline predictable in any of her books, and this one is no exception.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and author for an advanced copy of this book.

Elin is an auto buy author for me. Every time I read one of her books I want to visit Nantucket. She fully immerses you in the world of the elite and not so elite. I love how she brings characters in from other books. It makes me remember how much I liked that book she refers back to.

This is a perfect beach read of wealthy people behaving g badly. Is it far fetched? Absolutely! Is it total brain candy? Yep!
