Think Twice:
The amount of times I’ve sang this title in two different versions “just another day for you and me in paradise” and “think twice it’s alright” is enough to pick up the book honestly. Lest we forget it’s Harlen freaking Cobin.
Apparently this is #12 in the series? Where have I been? Reading the Win series, that’s where. So I get to see Windsor and his ridiculous name but basically Bruce Wayne self again and it’s a good read!
Pedal to the floor, of course, nonstick jaw dropping what in the French toast just happened? Vibes all day.
I jumped into this one not realizing it was a series, but I luckily didn't feel too lost. Harlon Coben did a great job of giving back story without info dumping.
This is my third book by Coben and I can definitely say he writes good mysteries. His writing, however, is mostly dialogue in this one. It made the story feel shallow at times and I felt like his prose was better in "Tell No One" and "The Boy from the Woods". I agree with another reviewer who thinks this was probably done on purpose so it could easily be made into a screenplay. I'm not a big fan of that and I would've given it thee stars overall, but I have to admit that the twist at the end got me.
I'm still up for reading more by Coben, but I'll probably stick to his older stuff.
Thank you to NetGalley & Grand Central Publishing for this eARC in exchange for an honest review.
Unfortunately this book just didn't do it for me. While I haven't read all of the Myron Bolitar books, I did read Win, so I was familiar enough with those two characters. Their banter felt stilted and forced, and I didn't like the way the two men interfered with a murder investigation with no recourse. The language and some of the slang used was completely cringey, and I don't know why Coben would put in some of the lines that he did. It just made Win and Myron seem like out of touch boomers. I've generally enjoyed books by Harlan Coben and will continue to read his novels, however I may have to pass on books in this series going forward,
As usual, this was a pretty solid book! I really enjoyed reading it and look forward to recommending it to others.
The story follows a complex plot involving family secrets and unexpected dangers. Coben's writing is fast-paced and engaging, making it hard to put the book down. Overall, it's an entertaining read that keeps you guessing until the end.
This is the first book I've read in this series and I loved it. I will definitely go back and read the others. The plot was fast paced and I loved Myron and Win. A fun read I read in one sitting.
Myron is back!! There’s no character series I love more than this Myron Bolitar series. The recurring characters are honestly too good and you root for them the entire way. I loved the twists and turns of this storyline. As always, I wasn’t able to guess anything and Coben wrapped everything up perfectly. The ending though!!!!!!!
Presumed Dead Man Wanted for Murder
Think Twice by Harlan Coben is a gripping thriller that follows Myron Bolitar, a former basketball star turned sports agent, and his best friend, Windsor Horne Lockwood III (Win). The story kicks off when two FBI agents show up at Myron's office, seeking his help in locating Greg Downing, a man presumed dead three years ago but now wanted for a high-profile double murder. The central mystery revolves around whether Greg is truly alive and how he could have committed the murders if he was supposedly dead. Myron and Win must navigate a labyrinth of lies, deceit, and dangerous conspiracies to uncover the truth.
Think Twice by Harlan Coben is a thrilling, fast-paced novel that will captivate fans of the Myron Bolitar series and new readers alike. With its intricate plot, well-developed characters, and suspenseful atmosphere, it proves why Coben is a master of the thriller genre. Despite some minor flaws, it is a highly recommended read for anyone who enjoys a good mystery with plenty of twists and turns.
This book got me. All the feels, all the twists, it was just simply EVERYTHING! I can’t recommend this author enough!
I am always excited to see another Harlan Coben book get published.
I was doubly excited to see that Myron and Win were the protagonists in this one!
A person seemingly comes back from the dead and causes problems for our heroes.
Highly recommended for fans of this series
This was such a fun and thrilling ride. I absolutely adore Harlan Coben, and this did not disappoint.
It had been quite a while since I had read a book in this series, but that was not a problem at all and I was immediately immersed in the characters.
This is absolutely an edge of your seat thriller, where no matter how hard I tried, I could not figure out what was going on and what the resolution was going to be. Up until the every end I was guessing, and guessing incorrectly in the way that I love with a thriller.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a complimentary copy of this book. I leave this review voluntarily and all opinions are my own.
Thank you to the author and NetGalley for allowing me to read an ARC of this book. Overall I really liked this book and the characters. I liked the plot and I liked how the story ended. I did feel like it took a long time to get through and this was a different kind of thriller read for me because of the focus on basketball in the story. Overall I would give the story a 3 out of 5.
Think Twice by Harlan Coben
Coben has aged Win and Myron. They are still irascible and Win is still as deadly but they are thinking about what they are doing rather than reacting.
People are being killed but the killers are brought before dame Justice with unusual rapidity. That is a good thing, right?
There is a son in the picture that shows I’ve missed a few books.
There is the normal wealth of action and deceit with lying, cheating and a dose of Big Cyndi.
Coben had a bit more emotional byplay than normal and wrote it very well.
I heartily enjoyed the book.
This is my 3rd Harlan Coben book ! I am hooked ! His thrillers keep me on the edge of my seat staying up way too late to finish it! There were definite twists that I wasn’t expecting and his character development is superb! Highly recommend
Great book. Action packed from the first page. Harlan Coben has a way of pulling the reader in with great banter and compelling characters.
Was so excited when I saw that Cobden had written another book featuring Bolitar and the so interesting, Win. They are such an unusual pairing, but it works. Who wouldn’t want to have a friend like Win? Someone who always has your back, that is intuitive, wealthy beyond measure, with all the newest gizmos in his possession , and knack for finding out information. Plus, he knows many, many people in all different walks of life.
Myron Bolitar, on the other hand has a self deprecating, ironic sense of humor and a trait that never lets him give up. He does get into quite a few scrapes, but of course, Win often comes to his rescue.
This is quite a twisty tale and a dangerous one. I didn’t have a clue, was surprised by the who, in this who done it. Books end had me holding my breath, was very intense.
This is a really strong main character who is well-developed. I haven't read other titles with this character, but he reads well-developed. This was a good story and mystery and I breezed through this story to get to the resolution
Myron is questioned by the FBI about one of his former clients, who despite being declared dead, is presumed to be a serial killer. Myron and friend Win now investigate if their client is alive and involved and how the murders are tied together. Overall, a thriller with many twists that keeps you reading to find out. Although this is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone.
It's been a while since I've read Harlan Coben. I was not familiar with his character, Myron Bolitar, and found the book slow to get going. Half-way through the book it finally picked up and then I was racing to the ending. I liked the premise. It was unusual but it made sense. I would try another Myron Bolitar book again.
Harlen Coben is back with a Myron Bolitar mystery suspense that was fun from page 1. I didn't think I'd finish Think Twice in less than a month when I began reading it but I shouldn't have expected anything less with a Coben read. He always sucks you in from the beginning and maintains full speed ahead, similar to driving the ball to the hoop. This is why I love his novels so much.
Think Twice follows the story of Myron's former nemesis being accused of murder. The catch is that, the man accused of murder is dead. He's been dead for 5 years. Before long, Myron, with help from his own personal Batman, Win, search for the truth.
As Myron and Win follow the breadcrumbs left from this conundrum, they happen upon multiple close calls, unsavory characters, and a serial killer that finds pleasure in pinning his murders on other people. Such a dangerous combination.
For those who aren't familiar with all of Myron's history, Coben adds nuggets of info so it's not hard to catch up. I haven't read all the Bolitar novels in succession but have read enough that I didn't feel lost at all. Thank you, Coben!
Where this novel excels in pacing it lacks in true character depth. Many of the main characters have been introduced to us in past novels so this is understandable and forgivable. I didn't have a huge issue with it, but those who may be picking this up for the first time might feel rushed and feel no real connection to many of the characters. Dare I say there are a few bad guys thrown in that feel like straight up caricatures.
In short, Harlan Coben has been and will always be one of my favorite authors. His books are fast paced, full steam ahead suspense mysteries that keeps his fans coming for more. Please don't think think twice about grabbing this book for your next airport or beach read.
