This is a loose Cinderella retelling. With elements from the story and I really wanted it to work for me, but I struggled, tbh. The world building was really hard to get into and understand.
I stuck it out because I wanted to see if the story between Elora and Finnian was worth it. And while at times it was a little cringey, overall there were points that the vibes were vibing. If you like loose retellings, check this one out.
I absolutely loved this fairytale retelling! The author kept me intrigued and invested the entire way through, which is a feat given the length of the book! While I'm not usually one to go for Cinderella retellings, I loved this book!
Super cool and a little bit weird at points. sometimes characters can be a little meh but in total this is a book that was worth it
I thought this was very good and I will have to add this to the shop shelves. Thank you for the chance for us to review.
I love Cinderella retellings and this one was so interesting and different. I loved the twists and turns in this book. The Story was wonderful can't wait to read more from this author.
Fairytale retellings are so interesting as authors create their own unique spin on well loved classics. Cinderella is loved by all and Whitney Dean’s new version is an outstanding addition. The plot kept me intrigued and I loved the characters.
I feel like this book is a love or hate book, like with a lot of romantasy. So I'm not gonna say too much, and let you decide for yourself. There are 5 star reviews and 1 star dnfs and I can see both sides, so if you want
- Enemies to Lovers
- Arranged Marriage
- Forced Proximity
- Found Family
give it a go.
I DNFed this one pretty quickly, and have gone back and forth on whether or not to review. The plot just didn’t feel that strong or original by the time I DNFed, which was about 20%-30% in. So take this with a grain of salt if it drastically changes in the latter half, but everything in the dialogue and character actions just felt predictable.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for granting me free access to the advanced digital copy of this book.
4 stars book from me. Loved the plot and the stories in this book. Loved every single second reading it.
Sorry for the late review, I was dealing with some health issues and now I'm catching up on my reviews!
I really loved this interesting take on Cinderella! Elora was a great main character, I really enjoyed watching her character grow throughout the book! Finnian was the perfect love interest and I enjoyed their chemistry so much! It is definitely spicy at times, but it was just enough to not take over the plot or seem unnecessary. There were definitely a little surprises and twists, especially at the end! I can't wait to read more of Ellie and Finn's story in the next book!
Book Review 📚
Rise of the Cinder Fae by Whitney Dean 🫶🏻
4.5/5 ⭐
I jumped at the chance to read this book, purely because of the cover - I don't think I've ever seen something that's so simplistic yet absolutely beautiful! I fell so hard I ended up preordering the hardback and OH MY, the hidden images under the dust jacket are just impeccable 👌🏻
Anyway - the Fae/fantasy twist to the Cinderella story was quite intriguing. As well as it being a dark retelling. There's no way of denying that this is exactly my type of book.
The characters were loveable and you felt everything you needed to through some of the plot. It wasn't hard for Dean to get you exactly where she wanted you. There was fantastic world building and well as description throughout. It was beautifully done and highly recommend this one.
A huge thank you to Netgalley, Undyibg Raven Press and Whitney Dean for allowing me to read this ARC in return for my honest opinion.
This book was an enjoyable surprise. I saw some people complain that it's too much smut at the end, but i don't really have a problem with it, especially because it was well written.
I LOVED THE CHARACTER and the interactions/relationships with each other, especially the main couple had amazing tension.
Despite the world building being intriguing and intresting I did find it confusing at times, especially later on in the book I felt bits of the story weren't explained properly enough.
This is my first read from Whitney Dean! I first came across this when browsing through Instagram so definitely had to check it out to see what this one was all about. I really like the cover and that’s what drew me in. Also it’s a retelling , specifically a dark retelling of Cinderella. I think it’s got a very interesting premise, and the characters are interesting enough, but I was kind of left hoping for more? I enjoyed Elora and Finnian and their relationship was fun, but as for the world and the story itself, I’m not too sure about.
Born and raised in the forgotten and broken kingdom of Ashbury, Elora has spent years resenting the royals of Pumpkin Hollow, the kingdom that forced the fall of Ashbury and procured the town as its own.
This was better than I expected it to be. The kingdom being named Pumpkin Hollow was a little silly, but the writing was solid and so was the world-building. I enjoyed it.
A phenomenal read!
Rise of the Cinder Fae exceeded all of my expectations and I loved every single moment of it!
This is the type of book I’d recommend to everyone, from those wanting to get into the fantasy genre to those who are seasoned fantasy readers!
Highly recommend!
I’ve been in my far era and this book did not disappoint! Front the very beginning I fell in love with this story!!!
A Fae retelling of Cinderella and I enjoyed it! I loved the darkness vibe it was giving and I thought the writing was great, full of lavish descriptions and characters that were developed well. The world building created a great sense of imagery to the story which helped form a mental picture as I was reading. The characters and their dynamics worked really well and the plotline played out great.
The action that developed throughout the storyline was great to read and I very much enjoyed the darker themes. Overall a great read
I really wanted to like this story, especially with its 4+ rating on GoodReads. However, it ended up being just okay for me. I found that there were moments that felt too rushed for my liking and some moments that did not to be quite as long as it was. I also felt that there were many things occurring within the story line that that it made the story feel like it was trying to be too many things at once. With all that said, it still had its moments where I wanted to just keep reading!
This is a retelling I can get behind, because let’s be real- all Disney girls are now romantasy women. This book — there are literally no words. I just want to read it over and over again.
Unfortunately the style of this wasn’t for me and I had to DNF. I do not think it’s fair for me to give a star rating on something that I did not complete, however for the sake of NetGalley I rated a 3 as I know there are readers out there who will in fact love this story.
