I am such a big fan of Morgan Matson’s writing. She always creates such wholesome stories and friendships. I will never get enough of her.

This audiobook failed to hold my attention to get to the Sleeping Beauty retelling part; I did not find the character believable or relatable, and the narrator sounded too adult to me. While probably perfect for most fans of fractured fairy tales, I DNF.

This book was a fun ride that added to the original story with two additional MCs thrown into the adventure Sleeping beauty and hoping they do not alter the events and change the course of the story. I enjoyed this adventure but I think I wanted a little more from the ending but would still recommend this to Disney, fantasy or clean romance lovers. Perfect for school age students

This was a really enjoyable fairy tale (specifically Disney fairy tale) retelling. I enjoyed Stella's interactions with Rose/Aurora, and the dynamics with the girls and the guys. Phil was delightful. The fairies were a lot of fun. I loved the Disneyland ties, as well, as I'm a huge Disneyphile myself. I will add a hard copy of this book to my classroom library.

If you're a Disney obsessed teen, you will love this book. Disney doesn't even attempt to be subtle in reminding the reader this book is published at Disney. There are constant Disney references, as well as the book being set at Disney World. I wasn't expecting the book to be quite so in your face about it. But otherwise, it is a Sleeping Beauty retelling that comes off as slightly unoriginal but it is still a light, fun, teen romance that will be enjoyed by any Disney loving teen.

I have a ton of books by Morgan Matson on my TBR, but this is the first one I've actually listened to. I don't think it was a bad book, by any means, but I think this one was a little on the young side of YA so it didn't interest me as much as some other young adult books. I'm sure if I was in the age range it was geared for I would have enjoyed it more. Disney Hyperion books are always done well I think, but I also think this is the first one I've read that was a contemporary and not a fantasy (This one does have fantasy or magical realism elements to it). I did like that it was an enemies to lovers rom-com and the characters were pretty good - I enjoyed the male MC more than the female MC. Sleeping Beauty is also not my most favorite Disney movie, but I did like that it got some love (it's not a very common one to get a retelling or anything like that).

Overall, if you want a cute, magical-realism rom-com with characters that are a little on the grumpy, jilted by love & practical side this might be a book you would enjoy. If you like Sleeping Beauty you also should give this one a try.

Thanks to #NetGalley for an e-arc of Promchanted by Morgan Matson to read and review.

Ok, I admit, I was leery of this book when I first saw it. I figured it would be another cheesy romance novel for teens. But, this story line was so entertaining, and I read the entire book in one sitting. Is it the best literature I have ever read? No. Would I recommend it to the student population in my school? Absolutely!

So, basically, it is a retelling of Sleeping Beauty on prom night. Stella and Reese do not like each other, but are stuck together at Disney on prom night. They accidently walking into Sleeping Beauty's castle and into the story. They accidently change the sequence of the story and have to put it back together.

I think this will be a hit with the teen reader. It is well written and has a great twist on a typical fairy tale love story.

This was based on a ARC given to me by NetGalley.

I loved this modern take on Sleeping Beauty! This is how a new fairy tale should be written. The story combined the current times with the fairly tale seamlessly. The dynamic between the characters was fun and "mostly" realistic.

Morgan Matson delivers another solid contemporary romance, this time with some Disney magic thrown in. Fans of Matson's other works who also enjoy a bit of fantasy or who love Sleeping Beauty will enjoy this one. While the story could have been a little shorter readers will enjoy the fairytale setting and the satisfying ending.

What a great story and concept! I did feel like Stella was overdramatic about a lot of things. Especially how she was so set on telling everyone who would listen that fairytales aren't real after one break up. However, I can see teens eating that up! So while I found it annoying, I think it will fit right in with the target audience. The ending was predictable, but in the best way possible!

Stella is an organized high school student and that extends to her life outside school. When her boyfriend breaks up with her shortly before the prom, she's devastated. Not so much because she really liked him but because for years she and her best friend, Nisha, have been planning to visit Disneyland before the prom. It's a tradition in their world. So, Stella is set to go along with Nisha and her date. But,. Nisha invites the new boy along, Reece. Stella does NOT want to spend any time with Reece. He was the waiter at the restaurant and witnessed Stella get dumped. And Reece does NOT want to spend time with Stella because her resulting upset ended up getting him fired from his job.

Stella and Reece get pushed together when Nisha and her date want some alone time. As Reece and Stella are exploring Sleeping Beauty's castle, they wander through a door and find themselves in the world of Sleeping Beauty. Complete with fairies, Maleficient, Aurora, Phillip, and the rest of the gang. Their arrival upsets the balance of the story and changes it.

Reece and Stella must work together to get the story to work out as it should so they can return to Anaheim themselves. Along the way, they each realize the other might not be so bad, and that they are both kind of cute.

Fans of Disney, anyone who enjoyed the book 10 Blind Dates, and teens looking for a fun romance will enjoy this one.

Note: I received an audio ARC from NetGalley.

I haven't seen Sleeping Beauty for such a long time. This book made me want to watch the movie as soon as I was done reading. I think this book adds so much to the original story. I am glad that I got this to read!

Thanks Netgalley!

Thank you to NetGalley and Disney Hyperion Audiobooks for providing this audiobook advanced copy for review!

While “pre-proming” at Disneyland before prom night, Stella and Reece push through a hidden door in Sleeping Beauty’s castle and land in the story of Sleeping Beauty. They then live through the story of Sleeping Beauty until they can figure out how to get back to their own world.

This book wasn’t entirely successful for me. Overall I thought it was a cute story, but I found the pacing a little off and the plot a bit predictable and cliche, perhaps? It's tough to critique a book for being "cliche" when it is purposefully playing off of fairytale tropes and a known story, but I just found it lacking.

Sleeping Beauty was my favorite movie as a kid, so I wanted to like this more than I did, but it just didn’t do it for me. There’s a section at the beginning here as well that kind of just feels like an advertisement for Disneyland? And, I do love Disneyland but it just felt a little much.

Overall a cute YA read, but not a ton of substance behind the cute premise.

Audiobook at 3x was no issue. Narration neither helped nor hindered the story.

I wanted to get into this YA rom-com + reimagined fairy tale so much, but it truly just did not hit for me. Stella being a "logistics guru" was annoying, people from the 14th century spoke the exact same way as our MCs from the 2020s (uhhh...what? seriously?), Rose just took off for hours and hours at a time--even with Maleficent lurking..... it was stretch after stretch after stretch of circumstances just to tell a story.

Reese's angle was pretty predictable, no satisfaction from the end. The title threw me since so little of the plot actually revolved around the Prom.

Overall: 1 stars (I did not like it)

I'll tell my students about: LGBT+, language

This retelling of Sleeping Beauty was both fun and longer than it needed to be. Because we all know the story of Sleeping Beauty, there is very little plot tension here, and it just seemed to drag on and on. At one point I found myself thinking, I still have eight hours to listen to?? But for anyone who loves a good Disney retelling, this is for you.
Stella, the main character, has sworn off fairy tales and happily-ever-afters, after a disastrous break up with her boyfriend right before prom. She still goes to the pre-prom with her bestie, which happens to be at Disneyland. Once there, Stella and the boy neighbor invited along because he’s never been to Disney before, somehow step into a portal swooping them into Sleeping Beauty’s fairy tale. They live out the fairy tale with Rose/Aurora, and with the fairy godmothers’ help, are able to return home safely.

Oof. I usually really like Morgan Matson, but this one is definitely my least favorite of hers. I will keep it brief:

-It felt so. dang. long
-Stella is annoying
-Chemistry was at a zero
-I'm not a Disney girlie
-It felt very, very childish

2.75⭐

Thanks to NetGalley & the publisher for this arc.

I am a huge fan of Disney in general. An even bigger fan of Sleeping Beauty. And now a huge fan of this retelling.

I will admit as of lately I have been quite over the "control freak, overachieving" main character but Morgan Matson has me obsessed with hers.

I love Stella and Reece. And their friends are adorable, both in real time and the story.

The ending almost had me dying. almost. I think this why I loved this retelling so much.

Read it. So good. and I am sucker for a good promposal. and all things prom.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for a chance to read and review.

This was a fun YA mashup of Once upon a time and A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court that sees two teens transported into the real life Sleeping Beauty fairy tale world where no modern technology exists and they have to help Aurora achieve her HEA. Great on audio and pure entertainment. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early digital and audio copy in exchange for my honest review!

I love Disney so I loved this book. Such a fun concept. I would love to have this be a series. So many discussion questions with this novel. The characters had some big decisions they were making. I will be recommending.
