Hilarious coffee table book- it’s the cat’s whiskers!
Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for letting me access an advance copy of this book in exchange for my feedback.
Color your own masterpieces with these familiar looking paintings done CAT-STYLE. From 'American Gothic' to 'Girl With a Pearl Earring' to 'The Scream', see feline friends stay awake long enough to adopt those famous poses, then color them to your liking. I had fun quizzing myself (a former art student) on the titles and painters of these classic works. Luckily each catsterpiece is identified on the reverse side.
This is a clever concept well executed, and many hours of coloring fun are guaranteed.
Loved it, the perfect gift for a cat lover who loves colouring books.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this ARC, all opinions are mine
Thank you, NetGalley and H.R. Wallace Book Marketing for this free review copy. This coloring book is so adorable. I love art and I love cats so, of course, this coloring book combines both is the most hilarious way. What’s not to love?! Really the only question is which picture to color first? Or maybe is it wrong to color and hang all of these pictures at my desk in my office and will my coworkers think I’m a crazy cat lady or just an art person? Who cares?! They’re adorable! Who DOESN’T need a Meow-na Lisa?!
These are great! Some of the pictures need some zentangles added in some places to make it your own! Very simple drawings for coloring. I love that it is all cats!
Thanks #NetGalley for #Catsterpieces. I need to grab a physical copy when it comes out.
This coloring book is exactly what you think it would be. Great paintings combined with cats. No hairballs.
The artwork is done with respect to the main paintings, and the bolded lines make it easy for colorers to know what section is what. I loved the choices of artwork that were picked to turn into coloring pages, a variety of different time periods and both European and American.
It's a great alternative to those adult coloring books; with their small spaces and intricate detail, they tend to stress me out
I think having.cats in masterpieces is brilliant. As a cat owner and cat lover, I would love pictures like this in my house. A cat Mona Lisa? Yes, please!
There is so much art in these pages to keep you busy colouring for hours. The drawing style isn’t for me, but I’m sure others will love it as it gives way for the person colouring it to be creative
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for letting me read it for an honest review.
Catsterpieces is a great way to introduce children to the fine arts. It’s cute and dynamic and interesting and a wonderful edition to add to your coloring shelf. My review will be on Amazon and goodreads
This must have escaped my attention in 2016 when it first came out, and when colouring-in-books-because-mindfulness were a big thing for adults. This does the very aged thing now of cropping out all human heads, inserting those of cats, and thus giving a masterpiece of old a new life. (Alright, they also get paws, as appropriate for the Mona Lisa and Munch's Scream, but they can also – Napoleon for one – be trousered much like the original.) You get one per sheet, with the title of the original sparsely positioned in the corner of the next page, so there should be no bleed-through issues.
If anything, however, these are very rough and ready. Never mind the lack of black outlining in the originals, and the necessity to have them here by dint of this being a colouring-in book, the copies we were to make did not look like they would have nearly the impression of the original. The overhanging tree leaves in a work by Bazille, whom I didn't know, looked much more basic than the original, almost naive in quality.
I can't say the selection didn't surprise – sure, there definitely were the expected half dozen, but also a spread of ones I didn't know at all. But bear in mind that once you go through the options you then get the same all over again, only two to a page, to gift as postcards or whatnot. Still, that aside this is probably reviewer-proof – if you know you need a book to colour in featuring Monets, van Goghs, Manets et al featuring cats bringing sheep in, or boating with an indignant pug, then you're already clicking 'buy'. The others are clicking something similar, but minus the 'u'.
Catsterpieces is a colouring book dedicated to fine art - and cats. In place of the protagonists in artworks by Renoir, Pissaro, Van Gough , Manet, Caillebotte, Vinci, Munch and many more, we have - cats.
The artworks themselves are simplified to line drawings in the styles of the great artists, and the cat faces have the purr-sonalities of their painted counterparts. The designs are backed with a blank page (barring the title and artist of the original artwork), to minimise bleed through from markers. And the designs are repeated towards the back of the book in smaller, postcard-sized illustrations.
A fun book for those who love both art and cats

This is perfect for anyone who likes cats and likes to color. It would be perfect for stress relief or for kids. My son is obsessed with cats so I got this for him and I to do together and it was so much fun.
Catsterpieces: A Feline-Themed Fine Art Coloring Book delivers precisely what it promises, coloring pages based on famous art masterpieces. Released in 2016 by H.R. Wallace, it's 79 pages and is available in paperback format.
These are simple line drawn coloring pages, with cats in the starring role on each page. Each drawing is on one page with the facing page blank, so they're appropriate for most media (markers, pens, dry-ish watercolor, pastels, pencils, crayons, etc). Most of the drawings will be recognizable to even casual fans of famous art.
The art is not credited, and presumably done in house. The publisher produces coloring books in a number of themes and styles.
Four stars. Lots of fun pages to keep readers busy for many hours. It would be a good choice for gift giving bundled with a fresh set of pencils or pens.
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

This as such a cute little coloring book. Cat lover in me fell in love with some of the pages as they were takes on some of my favorite pantings.
Great to teach kids about art and amazing painting in history.
All the stars.
This is brilliant!! I love that you can easily identify the photos but also if you aren't familiar with certain pieces there is a note to tell you. This is fun!
Absolutely lovely! Not only are there full size images, but they are repeated 50% of the size so you can try a different colour combination
The illustrations are fantastic and perfect for a colouring book as there is great personaity, but leaves plenty of room for the readers own creativity
I will certainly be getting this when it comes out!
Thank you to Netgalley and HR Wallace for such an adorable, whimsical coouring book ARC. This review is left of my own volition
This is the perfect coloring book for a cat lover. I just adore the pictures and the chance to color the pictures of famous artists.
Hysterically funny! I paged through the glorious Catsterpieces at pace, laughing more uproariously with each feline masterpiece. If you love arts and cats and coloring, this is a must-buy for children and adults alike. Loved it!
Thanks to H.R. Wallace Publishing and NetGalley for the ARC. Opinions are mine.
Oh my gosh I love it! The theme here is cats in great works of art and the drawings are fantastic. Instead of having tight, detailed designs, there are open shapes, so I think I'm actually going to preorder my own copy and use crayons, which I find highly relaxing.
Thanks so much to NetGalley for letting me read this
