Elizabeth is due to get married but worried about her mother being there because on her sisters wedding, her sisters fiancé was found dead with her mothers corsage next to the body. Is she right to be afraid?
This was a fun, crazy read with dark characters that you love to hate. I enjoyed the overall premise of the storyline and the plot is fairly fast placed. I did guess where the story was going quite early on and I found that I wasn’t fully immersed in the story. Although I didn’t fully connect with the book at this time, I would be interested to read more books by this author. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this copy in return for an honest review.
I do not usually read thrillers and I was happy I gave this one a chance. It was very fast paced and I loved it very much! I would highly recommend this book.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for providing this book, with my honest review below.
I’ve read a few books by Samantha Hayes I’ve enjoyed and I was glad to see that Mother of the Bride was no exception. Anyone with an overbearing and out of touch relative will feel the same dread that Lizzie feels when she and her fiancée, Owen, are saddled with her mother planning their wedding while staying under her own roof. Adding to the tension are a series of unfortunate mishaps that occur and Lizzie’s suspicion that her mother was behind Shelley, her sister’s, tragedy on her own wedding day.
While I didn’t connect beyond some of the situational emotions with the characters I would say that this book was meaning for me to. The beauty of the story is the grey area and growing unease around Lizzie’s mother. As the story progresses and we learn more about her we enter our own murky state feeling pretty confident she has some real issues. And while I won’t give anything away I will say how this book climaxed, and the softly disclosed twist that followed, were well done and not anticipated! A strong recommendation for fellow mystery and thriller fans, you will be satisfied with this book.
Its a book by Samantha Hayes so you know you can't go far wrong. Plenty of twists in this one. Fairly predictable but still an incredibly enjoyable read. My thanks to netgalley and the publisher for my copy. A worthy five star read.
Thanks to NetGalley for my Advance Reader Copy of Mother of the Bride by Samantha Hayes. It was a fast paced thriller that I couldn’t put down! I kept internally screaming at Lizzie and was so frustrated with her choices to subject her loving fiancé Owen to her sinister mother. I did figure out the plot twist early on (or so I thought) but it still kept me intrigued…and then BAM! HUGE PLOT TWIST!! Grab your copy of this page-turner on March 26, you won’t be disappointed.
This plot kept my attention and interest through the entire book. I wasn't quite sure where the storyline would end up but that's what kept my interest. I thought the suspense/mystery was going in one direction, but ultimately there are a couple of twists that were a surprise! This is a fast-paced story!
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for access to this eARC.
I often judge a book by how easily I can predict the end…….oh I didn’t see it coming. A bit but not that much!!! Loved it 🥰
This is another fantastic book by Samantha Hayes. It’s dark and addictive.
The plot is fairly predictable, however that didn’t take away from my enjoyment overall.
It’s a great domestic thriller.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this arc. As with all Samantha Hayes books, this was amazing!! What a thriller. After her sister's husband dies at their wedding a year ago, with their mother's corsage next to his body, Elizabeth is scared to get married and have her mother there. She's never been quite right, even in their childhood. This had me on the edge of my seat, dying to know what was going to happen. Five star read!
This author is one of my favourites and I was so excited to be able to advance read a copy of her latest novel. I read this in practically one sitting once you have turned the first page it draws you in and gets in your head there are so many crossroads you are taken down and it really keeps you on your toes as you don’t know which way it is going to go next. . It is hard to explain more without giving away spoilers.
This was a cross between a psychological thriller and a family drama and would make a fabulous tv adaptation.
Can’t wait to read what this author brings out next.
So I had this book figured out about 40% but that doesn’t mean I didn’t like it! Lizzie and her fiance go visit her mother. Lizzie and her mom have a troubled past, including what happened last year when sisters groom was found dead. Secrets keep coming out about Lizzie’s mom, including what is really going on with her dad. Lizzie believes her mother is responsible for rafes death as well as Danny’s death when they were younger. She sets out to find the truth. But the truth is not what she expected.
Often mothers in law are not very well liked by their sons or daughters in law. Although there are a lot of them who are very loving and kind, some are really big busy bodies and want to impose their points of view. And that's of course, not something that is appreciated all the time.
You should be honest at all times, but sometimes you hide something to protect your family even though the one you are keeping out of jail is not your favorite person on earth. Guild eats at you because you might have got yourself in serious trouble and the culprit escapes from being punished.
Who is telling tales and who is genuine in this story? Is the mother of the bride the worst of the worst or is someone maybe even more devious?
I loved trying to untangle this web woven by the author. Some people are dishonest to keep themselves safe. Others do it because they want to bring mayhem.
Prepare to be shocked when the killer of the sister's fiance is being revealed. 5 stars
Thank you
This talented author has written a page turner. The secrets and red herrings kept me guessing until the end. I did not guess what really happened. Murder and mayhem...friends and family...Love and romance...Deception...no one is the person he/she claims to be...what really happened? Who did the murder? Why? This daughter and mother have a relationship that is not what one would expect. She becomes engage...chaos ensues...Thanks Netgally.
Ooh this is a great and somewhat sinister read!! You aren’t supposed to be afraid of your mother, right?! There are lots of secrets and red herrings that really made me think! A great plot, I read it in a day! Another brilliant novel from Samantha Hayes!
