Beautifully written and thought provoking. Part autobiographical and part advice, this mother-daughter duo shares their story as well as how you can improve your own mother/daughter relationship.
I think this could apply to either parent, honestly. It’s written with care and contains writing prompts at the end of each section for you both to do.
Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for my advanced digital copy!
I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
The Mother-Daughter Relationship Makeover is a nonfiction self-help book for mothers and daughters aimed at supporting, healing, and enhancing the relationship between both.
The authors take you through their own experiences, and I really enjoyed reading and taking on board both mother (Lesley) and daughter (Lindsey) perspectives. Within each section is journaling prompts with lots of information and guidance to do each one, and each goes deeply into a topic for both mothers and daughters and gives opportunities to understand more about each other too.
This is a very useful and supportive book to work through together to help fulfil a healthier and more nurturing relationship.
This is story to make amend of mother and daughter relationship. Hopefully this book will be blessed for many moms and many daughters. To be reconcile each other and love again.
Overall, this has a lot of great information, and the journaling prompts are a great tool. I read through the whole thing fairly quickly, and then I would go back and reference certain sections again, or read it again to really digest it all. I would say that this feels like 2-3 different books could have been written from this one. There is a great memoir/autobiography which is intertwined with lots (and lots) of information about relationships and communication and so many topics, and the journaling prompts. I might have separated the two. It's all good - just a lot! You could write another book about Trauma, Addiction & Recovery. There is a lot of helpful information here., so I think it is a great resource for mothers and daughters.
Unlike most ‘self-help’ books I’ve read so far, this one has a very personal approach to it. I was a bit confused by this at first, as some stories told seemed very private, and it felt a bit overpowering at times (closer to an autobiography).
Overall though, the book is incredibly well thought out, and I especially enjoyed the ‘journaling’ parts at the end of each chapter. It is also extremely broad and covers everything from mental illness to communication styles and toxic behaviors.
I’ve read the book incredibly fast, and intend to introduce my mom to it, so she can benefit from these self-reflection prompts herself!
"The Mother-Daughter Relationship Makeover: 4 Steps to Bring Back the Love" by Leslie Glass and Lindsey Glass arrived like a timely gift in my life. Despite being an ARC, its arrival felt serendipitous, aligning perfectly with the juncture I found myself in.
The unique aspect of this book lies in the dual perspectives offered by Leslie (mom) and Lindsey (daughter). Their shared insights guide readers through the journey of enhancing the mother-daughter relationship, providing a roadmap for cultivating love and understanding. Notably, the book fearlessly tackles challenging topics such as mental illness, substance abuse, secrets, lies, and toxic relationships.
What sets this book apart is the candid presentation of both viewpoints, offering a more holistic understanding of the complexities within the mother-daughter dynamic. The inclusion of journal prompts is a thoughtful touch, proving to be surprisingly helpful and insightful, even for those not accustomed to journaling. These prompts serve as a valuable tool, keeping readers on track as they navigate through the process of self-reflection and relationship-building.
In essence, "The Mother-Daughter Relationship Makeover" stands as a commendable resource for mothers and daughters seeking to foster a loving and fulfilling relationship. The book's comprehensive approach, coupled with the personal narratives and practical journal prompts, makes it an invaluable guide for anyone navigating the nuances of this special bond.
This book has proven to be not just a read but a timely companion in the journey towards building stronger and more meaningful mother-daughter connections with my own daughter.
I sincerely thank NetGalley, HCI Books, and Health Communications Inc. for providing me with the e-book in exchange for an honest review.
I’m a fiction reader through and through, and I’m trying my hardest to brand out into non-fiction and thought this looked like a good place to start! I have a very positive relationship with my mother, although I recognise she has slight narcissistic tendencies, so I didn’t think I’d take much away from this book. But I found it so insightful and eye opening and educational on the different dynamics that can exist between a mother and daughter. It’s such an intricate relationship, and it has so much potential to be harmful. I loved the personal stories, and so many of them were relatable. The only problem I have is I don’t journal, I’m just absolutely way to cynical for it. However, the questions at the end were still very helpful prompts for reflection and deeper thinking on the topics discussed in each chapter.
