This was a cute book! I really like the use of onomatopoeia. I also like how this book was written to help kids learn about different cultures.
Adela's Mariachi Band
by Denise Vega Erika Medina
A beautiful story of family pride, and growing up trying to find your place in it. The band is the entire lively hood and the youngest just wants in on the fun. She finds what she can do to add to the fun.
**Thank you to NetGalley and Charlesbridge for this ARC in exchange for an honest review**
Adela wants to be part of her family's mariachi band, but she doesn't have the patience to learn or practice anything in order to do it. Something she has always been good at, though, was responding back to the gritos her tia would do at the end of the last song.
The need to belong and be a part of something bigger than yourself is a sentiment all of us share. Adela is proud of her family and just wants to find a way to participate and spread that joy in her own way.
This book include a great author's note at the end about mariachi, including the common instruments played. There are also links to learn more about it.
A very cute story about Adela's favorite thing in the world: her family's mariachi band.
A beautiful mix of music, dance, and family, an enjoyable read, especially for young people looking forward to finding a space for themselves in the future.
Thank you #NetGalley and #Charlesbridge for the ARC!
I've seen Mariachi bands before but never really thought about them. This was so interesting! Mariachi bands usually consist of certain instruments, and everyone has a part. Some Mariachi bands have dancers, while others don't.
In this cute picture book, Adela wants to be part of the band but she doesn't have great skills yet. In the end, she figures out how she can still play an important part while she grows into her talents.
Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this
