Four siblings, raised English because their father had jumped the fence, decide to return to their dawdi's and mommi's farm to become Amish. Only two remain, per their dawdi's request, to fulfill a yearlong test to see if they truly want to be Amish. Once these two decide, the other two will do the same. Through struggles adjusting to the changes, will they remain and become Amish, or will they return to being English? Shelley Shepard Gray left such a cliff-hanger at the end of A is for Amish. Cannot wait for a sequel (there will be a sequel, won't there?). I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher
Kensington Books for this book.
I love Shelley Shepherd Gray's books and this one is no exception. I enjoyed reading about the different struggles the two young adults, Kelsey and Martin, face in their quest to live Amish after being raised in the Englis world.
I will not give away the story, but you can imagine the many struggles they face.
I look forward to book two in the series.
Recommend.
Shelley Shepard Gray is my go to author for Amish romance, but be warned, this book finishes on a cliffhanger.
Another great Amish read, highlighting the bonds of family, Christian values, and the sweetest of romantic undertones.
Thank you to NetGalley for a copy of this ARC in return for my honest review.
Another wonderful Amish book written by Shelley Shepard Gray., Thanks to the publisher, author, and NetGalley for allowing me to get a copy before publication date and to review it. This book tells the story of 4 siblings who have paternal Amish grandparents. Their dad left the Amish faith and became English. This story follows the siblings as they try to figure out if they want to become Amish. It is a very well written book that deals with the Amish and English world, faith in God, and romance between some of the characters. I highly recommend this book.
Shelley Shepard Gray’s writing is fluid and engaging. Her storytelling is such that the reader truly feels immersed in the book and needs to read it to its inevitable conclusion as quickly as possible.
The premise of this book - a group of siblings decide that the life they are leading is not working and they need to make a change - captured my attention. The fact that that change was to embrace their Amish heritage, kept me riveted to my kindle. I found myself invested in Martin, Beth, Jonny and Kelsey’s journey. This book features Martin and Kelsey making the leap to become Amish. Watching them reinvent themselves and work their way through the challenges of their decision was incredible. I couldn’t stop reading. The ending of this book was both a surprise and shock and has me looking forward to the next book in the series.
I’m giving 𝗔 𝗜𝗦 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗔𝗠𝗜𝗦𝗛 the judy.ann.loves.books stamp of approval, TBR and Enjoy!
Could Martin, Kelsey, Beth and Jonny adjust to learning to be Amish in a year? That was the question that they asked their grandparents, Josiah and Sylvia when they visited them that night.
To say they were in shock was an understatement, they were surprised and they told their grandchildren that only two of them at a time could stay and seriously try the Amish way of life. Martin, the oldest, and Kelsey chose to undertake the experiment.
Martin had a good job, which he quit and a modern apartment in the city, and Kelsey had recently graduated from college and she had the desire to change her life. But neither of them thought much about giving up cars or cell phones and electricity.
You will enjoy Martins' job exploits and Kelseys battle with a hen, thin to yourself, could I become Amish?
Lovely story of four "englisher" siblings who decide to become Amish. Their father had been Amish but left the life before they were born. Through their parents troublesome marriage the children always enjoyed visiting their Amish grandparents.
Another outstanding book by Shelley Shepard Gray. Follow along as siblings decide to leave their English way of life to become Amish. Complete reverse of what we usually read when the Amish want to live the English way of life. Will it be as easy as they think? Will they be able to adhere to and follow the rules? I enjoyed reading the book and looked forward to seeing what the siblings would figure out for themselves. Such a fun book filled with faith and stepping out of a comfort zone to try something new. I look forward to the next book in the series.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher. All words are my own.
Martin, Kelsey, Beth, and Jonny are siblings that are tired of their lives and want a fresh start. The only place they felt safe was with their Old Order grandparents, Josiah and Sylvia Schrock in Ohio. Now, surprising their grandparents, each sibling wants to join the Amish faith.
Josiah and Sylvia decide that they can welcome two siblings into their house at a time, so Kelsey and Martin leave their lives and move in with their grandparents. After a rough start, Kelsey embraces Amish life. Martin finds a new friend in the Schrock's neighbor. They both need to find if the Amish lifestyle is a good fit and if they can leave their English conveniences behind.
It was a lovely story of acceptance, love, and faith.
“No matter what you decide to do, you’ll always be my brother and I’ll always support you.”
After reading another book that was heavier and a bit lengthy, I needed a light, easy, engaging read and this fit that description perfectly. Gray’s Amish novels always take me to a simpler place where life is slower and more peaceful, but the characters are just as human as anyone else. This story is unique in that English characters desire to leave their lives behind to become Amish, which is easier said than done. Some have made up their minds, some have not, but each must choose the life best for them, and support the other’s choices in the process. I loved that the grandparents played a prominent role, and that they supported their grandchildren even when it was difficult for themselves. I am looking forward very much to the sequel and finding out how the rest of the siblings reach a resolution to their life changing decisions. I recommend picking up this new series full of faith, family, and clean romance.
*I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley and Revell Publishing. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is the first of a new series by the author. She gives us books about four siblings who are considering turning Amish after their parents have divorced and ignored them. Their grandparents, who are Amish have always been a positive example in their lives. They remember how wonderful the times were they would have when they would visit their grandparents farm.
Each of the siblings are dealing with their own issues and looking for answers and a change in their lives. The grandparents are so shocked when they find out but chose to encourage them. They tell them they will allow 2 of the siblings to live with them for a year as they try out the Amish lifestyle. It is not an easy choice as they would be leaving good jobs, homes, electricity, cars and all the English ways of life.
This book covers Martin, the eldest, and his sister Kelsey. You will love reading how they learn to fit into the Amish lifestyle and if they truly think they can change from the English life.
I highly recommend this book. It is an easy, fast read that you will not want to put down until you finish it.
I received an advanced copy of the book from Kensington Publishers and NetGalley. The opinions expressed are my own.
I enjoyed how close the four siblings were despite their upbringing. The siblings are college/adult age and are looking to find their place in the world. The story primarily focuses on Martin and Kelsey. The characters were enjoyable to read about especially Anna, Sylvia and Josiah. I understand that it's a series but the abrupt ending was a bummer.
Thanks so much to netgalley and the publisher for the arc. The opinions are my own.
A is for Amish is a new series for Shelley Shepard Gray. It follows four siblings Martin, Kelsey, Beth and Jonny.
The siblings decide that they should try to be Amish for a year and stay at their grandparents house. The grandparents decide they only want two of the four. This story is about Kelsey and Martin. I enjoyed this story very much and I can’t wait for the next one. I’m hoping there is some closure on Martin’s story. Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books. This my own opinion.
A is for Amish is a well written Amish romance. I throughly enjoyed this book and look forward to reading future books in the series. I received an advance copy from the publisher and Netgalley. This is my unbiased review.
I love the Amish genre and love all books by this author so this was an endearing, tender hearted and wonderful book to read. I was immediately drawn into the characters lives and thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish. Another great book by a great author.
I was going to wait until closer to publication time but I just couldn't wait!
I love love this author's books. She's my go to for sweet Amish stories such as these
I feel that this could be a wonderful start to a new series
I've enjoyed this story from the beginning
I have often wondered what it meant to live Amish and this story has enabled me to do just that.
I have giggled at Kelsey and Martin a few times along the way. It was interesting as they grew to be the people they were meant to be.
Sylvia and Josiah are also a hoot. Imagine their surprise about their grandchildren's plan! I bet their faces were priceless but I also felt kind of sorry for them too.
However; there was a lot of repetitiveness that nearly drove me nuts That was really the only thing that I didn't like. Otherwise, I absolutely loved it!
A quote I wanted to leave you with;
“We’re all scarred one way or another, child. We live on earth, not heaven.
"But you mustn't forget that our Lord doesn't make mistakes. "
"You were meant to be special because He sees all of us that way."
Will it work out for Kelsey and Martin or will they go back to their former lives?
You will just have to read this delightful and fun novel to find out!
5 stars for an entertaining novel. I highly recommend.
My thanks for a copy of this book. I was NOT required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are my own.
I guess I would give this an A-.
Enjoyed the book and relationship between the siblings. The Dawdi was one of my favorite characters. I could just imagine the expressions on his face.
I did find it a little unbelievable that the four siblings would all want to be Amish at the same time.
Looking forward to the next one.
As someone who feels she is living in the wrong time period and has an idealized view of the Amish, I really enjoyed this sweet story about siblings who feel like their lives are not quite on the right track and consider going back to their Amish roots. They have varying degrees of success as they navigate the differences between their two worlds and even fall in love along the way. A good setup for a new series by the best Amish fiction writer around.
I loved this book, I read it in one day. Four English siblings have decided they want to join their grandparents and become Amish, their plans don't go quite like they planned after talking to their grandparents. It's decided two of the siblings will go stay a year. and learn the ways of amish life. And even though they had faith in God, they soon learn there is more to being Amish than just beliefs, can they give up their English life and convenience and go to the life they were so sure they wanted, it's a wonderful story of faith, love, and acceptance. Change isn't easy and everyone is different in how they adapt and that's ok.
Thank you to Netgalley and Kensington books for the chance to read this book. My thoughts are my own. #Netgalley #AisforAmish #Kensingtonbooks #ShelleyShepardGray #amishfiction
Four siblings, who have grandparents who are Amish, decide they want to leave the English world and "become" Amish too. Two stay and two leave, to take turns without overwhelming their grandparents. Enjoyed this one (although the hanging ending was not needed) and the oldest brother and sister as they meet and fall in love with members of the community. Would highly recommend this one and look forward to the next in the series.
