Unfortunately, I was not able to read this book before it became unavailable to me. I do think it would have been a good fit.
My top thoughts:
This series is FANTASTIC and this may be my favorite so far? We already knew both the main characters fairly well from the previous two books and I was so eager for their story. And it surpassed my hopes and expectations – not just in their romance and character development, but in the plot as well.
What I liked/didn’t like:
I think one of the things I’m enjoying most about this series is the way it’s breathing life into often ignored fairy tale / nursery rhyme / fictional characters (called Tales) and combining them with familiar ones. We started with Tess “Red” Little (Little Red Riding Hood), a more familiar character that gets lots of attention. But then we drifted it a little with Lavendar (Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother). And now we’re so far off the beaten path with Trish Muffet… Little Miss Muffet! I doubt she’s ever had a book and definitely not one like this. I already knew I loved her from the previous books, but there was so much more to her than I knew. She’s a no-nonsense, tough as hell, forensic scientist for the FMA (Fairytale Management Authority). And I just love the way the nursery rhyme about the spider is all twisted into something so much more in this book. And then her love interest – Nicky Blue – is little Boy Blue (again, way off the beat path)! And I also knew I loved him from previous books. He’s a good bad guy – in that he’s plays on the wrong side of the law, but he’s not out to hurt people – and he’s built wealth for himself in the Here and Now after being a nobody in Make Believe. I felt for him instantly, as his wife (Juliet, from Romeo and Juliet) was killed in book one and he’s tormented over his inability to protect her. He’s busy seeking vengeance. I think if I have one complaint it would be that everyone is Red’s Ex and I like to start seeing stories where she hasn’t slept with the love interest (and I do think those are coming). Not that this caused any friction in this book – Nicky is not in love with Red (though he does care for her) and Red is so in love with Nate. In fact, I also really loved seeing the continuation of her story – she’s pregnant – and Lavender’s story too – they visit! It’s nice the way old characters keep cropping back up.
Beyond the characters, the story is just fantastic. There’s a mystery element – I think these definitely qualify as Fantasy Mysteries/Detective stories. And we have a continuing element that has been a problem since the first book, namely Dracula. But we have a new player on the scene – The Agency – that’s very bad news for the Tales. Well, new in the sense that I think this is the first we’ve heard about them, but they’ve been around for a while. Just in the past two years (which is when book 1 started) they’ve been changing into more of a problematic player. I’ll let you read it and learn more about them for yourself, as you really truly must read this series. I do think you could hop into this one and understand what’s going on, but you’d miss out on a lot of background information and character development, so I wouldn’t recommend it. But they’re great, so why would you want to skip ahead?
This is truly a great combination of paranormal romance, urban fantasy, crime/detective genres to give you all awesomeness.
Another great addition to the Transplanted Tales series! Honestly, this is such an underrated series and each book features amazing characters with the perfect amount of romance, steam and suspense!
Along Came A Spider follows the story of Trish Muffet and Nicky 'Little Boy' Blue - who have been transported into the real world along with many other fairytale/fictional characters after a spell goes awry. It's quite common to come across Beauty and the Beast and other fairy tale retellings, but this one is quite unique as it has Little Miss Muffet and Little Boy Blue - all grown up now(and they seem like a perfect pair, don't they lol?😂).
Trish Muffet now works for the Fairytale Management Authority and she has some special powers that let her see the last moments of the victims before they die, which is quite useful but terrifying, to be honest. And she's had a crush on Nicky from the moment they arrived in the real world - Here and Now.
When she's attacked at a crime scene, Nicky ends up coming to her rescue. Nicky's had quite a tough life and he's been masquerading as the vigilante 'Spider'(get it?) after his wife's death. He's been tracking Vlad the Dracula for many years and when he sees that Trish might be in danger because of Vlad, he helps her out and they decide to join forces.
I loved the relationship between Trish and Nicky in this one! She's been pining for him for so many years, so I was so glad to see them fall for each other and I was totally rooting for Trish! She's quite amazing with her snark and protective nature. And I don't even need to say much about Nicky as I'd been wanting to read his story from the first moment that we came across him in book one! We also get to meet Red, Nate, Lavender and Seth. It was so much fun seeing them again! I also loved the fact that all of the characters are well developed - including the antagonists, and they have such fascinating backstories!
The author has created an amazing world with unique characters and I'd love to read each one's story as a separate book lol! I'd definitely recommend this series if you haven't read it yet, as you'll certainly enjoy it!

Along Came A Spider delighted me in every way. I knew Trish was a great character, but I didn't appreciate how truly kickass she was until I read this book. She's an engaging heroine - intelligent, snarky, and tough as nails when she needs to be - and while Tess from book one remains my favourite heroine in the series, Trish is a very close second. I liked her in every way, right from the get-go, and I enjoyed her story so much, I was actually peeved when it ended because I wanted it to keep going!
Requested and downloaded this book back in 2013 with every intention of reading it but then it expired on my device before I had the chance. Have felt bad about that and as a result haven't wanted to leave a review but with more and more publishers relying on Feedback ratings I need to clear out some of these older titles in my queue.
Along Came a Spider has become my favorite book out of the Transplanted Tales…so far at least. =) I loved the story of Nicky Blue and Trish Muffet.
Kate SeRine delivers another tale of our favorite fairy characters, but it is a twisted world where some of our tales are not the friendly, beautiful characters we know from reading as kids in our fairy tale books. Instead, Kate gives some of our favorites horrible reputations or make them villains. But with that twist of the characters personalities make these Tales so much better than our traditional fairy tales.
The tales have been transplanted into the ordinary world where they have to learn to survive and thrive without giving too much away, who they are. In the tale of Along Came a Spider, is when Little Miss Muffet and Little Boy Blue get their story. Trish Muffet gets caught up in a world storm of the craziness of killings, which she has to explore to find out what happens. Unfortunately, she gets caught up in the crossfire of the madness and ends up having the notorious Dracula stalking her. In comes, Little Boy Blue, otherwise known as Nicky, who Trish knows very well, but he has been hiding since his wife was killed. He ends up saving Trish one night, and Trish and Nicky end up working together to find out what is going on between Trish’s job and the Agency, who are a bunch of ordinaries. Something is up, and they must find out what is going on before everything is compromised.
I adored and fell head over heels for Nicky “Little Boy” Blue. Oh yes, I did. I call dibs on him. But I do not know…Gideon who played a significant role in this book. He may win me over in his book due to what he did in Along Came a Spider. He is very mysterious, and I have always loved the mystery guys in books. But I loved Nicky do I have to give a reason why? Just read the book to find out. =) Too many reasons why I loved him.
Trish was a very likable female character in the Transplanted Tales books. She was so determined to find out what was going on and also to overcome her fears. She had it rough when she was little, but she has grown tremendously.
I even loved when the previous characters came into the story to find out what they were up to since their story. Seth and Lavender…those two are a very steamy couple.
I loved the storyline and where Kate took the characters into as far of drama, action, and emotions. This was one messed up twisted tale between the tales and the ordinaries this time.
I give this book 5 full moons and highly recommend it to urban fantasy and paranormal romance readers out there. If you love fairy tale stories with a twist, you will enjoy this book. I suggest you read the first two though, so you can find out about the other characters in the series. You will want to know about Little Red Riding Hood and her personality before you read this book. She is one stubborn, strong-willed character. =)
It feels like I've been waiting for Along Came a Spider (without knowing it's name) for ages because finally it's Nicky and Trish's story! I wasn't sure how this one was going to play out really because Nicky was previously in a relationship with Jules (Juliet from Romeo and Juliet) and then she died and Nicky disappeared and you didn't know if it was because he loved Jules so much he couldn't deal with her death or because he was out for vengeance. Well Along Came a Spider gives us that answer.
Along Came a Spider is the third book in the Transplanted Tales series and this series is meant to read in order because of the joining story lines, the repeat of characters and the continuation of their relationships and what's been going on in their lives since. Which I really enjoy, just because a book has ended and the couple have their HEA doesn't mean their story is over and that's one of the things I love about Ms SeRine stories. She makes you root for those characters but doesn't end their relationship happenings in another couple's book just because it's now about two different people.
Along Came a Spider was a more complicated story line between Nicky and Trish and the shenanigans that was happening with and around them. There's more than just one bad guy in this one and then even the bad guy isn't really a bad guy there's something else behind it. Which makes you not feel so bad about feeling really bad for the fake bad guy!
I was pretty sure I knew how the ending would go because it's explained really early on that Nicky isn't open for another relationship after losing Jules which made me really mad at time at times because it was like he wasn't really seeing and dealing with Trish being herself and was still stuck in the past and was letting what happened before rule him and it didn't really matter what Trish would do Nicky wasn't going to move forward with Trish.
Which sucked because Trish was a great character, she's smart and even though she's scared she'll still go forward and do the things that scare her because she wants answers and won't let her fear put her off. Plus she sees Red as a role model. Nicky while I liked him I didn't like him. I liked that he'd changed in some aspects and that he was darker and calling himself the Spider but I missed some of his characteristics that he had before. He still has his humour and his caring but it's not like it was before.
Overall I'm glad we (finally, we're only three books in but I was eager for this one!) got Trish and Nicky's story and I'll be looking forward to finding out more about them in later books. The next book isn't out until August 2014 and I'm hoping it might be Gideon's book but I'm really not sure if I'm looking forward to it all the same.
This book is so different from what I had imagined when I read the blurb... And throughout the reading I had the impression that I should have read the previous books.
However, the couple's romance is interesting and they have good connection.
Despite that from other books I've read, I can not consider Vlad the "Dracula" the bad guy. In fact, in other books, I'm a huge fan of him.
