Hard Contact by Cameron Curtis
A Breed Thriller #8
I missed book seven in the series but felt right at home following Breed on his next thrilling adventure.
What I liked:
* The gritty compelling introduction to the story and how Breed took care of business
* Breed: intriguing, strong, lethal, intelligent, ex-military, sniper, excellent and varied skills, independent contractor, battle-scarred, survivor, attractive to women, someone I would like to have as a friend and definitely would want in my corner if in trouble
* Anya Stein: CIA Director of Special Situations, intelligent, strategic thinker, capable, hard worker, dedicated, intriguing, not infallible, and seeing a different side of her in this story
* Hecate Kyrios: Greek, daughter of wealthy businessman, strong, resilient, will probably take over her father’s business, might have been a ship passing in the night or could show up again in a future book in the series
* The plot, pacing, setting, and writing
* That I felt I was there with Breed and a part of the story – and yet was really glad that I was NOT there – can’t imagine the training that he must have gone through to do all that he can in these books
* The twists, turns, and surprises that kept occurring
* Following the story and finding out who the bad guys were and what they were up to
* Wondering what Breed does when he is NOT working for the Stein and the CIA
* Thinking about what type of situation Breed will find himself in next
* All of it really, except…
What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like
* Having to wait for the next book in the series
Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Definitely
Thank you to NetGalley, Inkubator Books, and the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.
5 Stars
Hard Contact by Cameron Curtis is a gripping thriller that hooked from the very first page and didn’t let go until the last page. The story is about the hijacking of The Medusa, a freighter off the Greek coast and, more importantly the theft of the ship’s cargo - two billion dollars’ worth of gold bullion. The protagonist, Breed, is recruited by the CIA’s deputy director, Anya Stein, to find the Medussa and recover the gold. The story begins with Breed climbing aboard what turns out to be a pirate-ship anchored in a harbour, being discovered by its crew and him escaping underwater. Breed and Stein apply their military and spy experience (and some super-technology provided by friends in the government) to find the pirates, the ship and its cargo. The plot is well-crafted, with plenty of action, suspense and surprises. And of course the setting, the Greek Islands and a clifftop monastery were picturesque (in my imagination). I thoroughly recommend Hard Contact to all readers of action-thrillers.
Hard Contact is the 8th Breed book from Cameron Curtis
Breed is a new character for me and Cameron Curtis is also new to me but this book is a very good read for anyone who likes Lee Child books.
The story is about two billion dollars of gold bullion being stolen at sea. Breed is tasked with finding and recovering the thirty tons of gold by the CIA's deputy director Anya Stein.
The action takes place in the Greek Islands and island hopping takes place by ship and helicopters. There is a feeling of a Bond movie to this one and the Aegean Sea is the backdrop.
Lots of action and some intense feelings as Breed goes about his business tracking down the hijackers in a Bond like manner. Kill or be killed as Hard Contact takes place.
Cameron Curtis is clearly a writer who likes to provide plenty of detail for his readers to understand and visualize every individual scene. I found that interesting and also a little unusual but it works for me.
Thanks to NetGalley for providing me the opportunity to read and provide a fair review of Hard Contact.

Fast paced and fun reading. I really enjoyed Hard Contact. I'll definitely be reading more by Cameron Curtis.
This book has great action scenes, great characters, lots of excellent descriptions of the places the story is set, and a very interesting plot. This is excellent entertainment.
Breed is back and the action continues as always. This time he becomes a target as he attempts to recover a hijacked ship.
Breed is back in Hard Contact and this time he helps out with a suspected hijacking at sea. Cameron Curtis has come up with some great characters in this series and the books sure are entertaining to read. This latest book is the eighth about former soldier and now freelance operator Breed. Although he works a lot for CIA and deputy director Anya Stein. Is there something going on between them? Maybe so, but I won't tell. This book is set in and around the Greek archipelago and that is a great setting for the events that our hero finds himself in the middle of. I can recommend this series adn hope that you all like them as much as I do. Thanks to Inkuubator Books and Netgalley for supplying me with another great book.
