Thank you to Netgalley, the publishers and author for this eARC.
I am becoming a big fan of this authors books even though I've not read them all. Murder at the Lake does not disappoint and gets off to the best start that immediately lured me into the story. Madison's wedding day doesn't go as planned when Troy's past returns to haunt them.
I think Carolyn Arnold really connects with her readers through her writing by making her characters jump out of the pages and become alive in my mind. And they are characters you like, take to heart and root for throughout. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, it is full of suspense and mystery and I enjoyed the story being told through Madison and Troy. The plot line is well thought out and intricate with lots of story threads to pique my interest and constantly keep me guessing. Madison is determined to find out who is responsible for the events threatening her future and leaves no stone unturned in her own investigations.
Overall, a great read, and an excellent addition to the authors Madison Knight series. If youre a fan of police procedurals you'll enjoy this although I'd say read the series in order to get to know the characters from the beginning.
4 stars
This was a great read from a great author. It opens with a jaw dropping scenario and grabs you from the very beginning and holds you in its grasp till the very end.
A dark read with so many twists and turns. These characters were all awesome. I loved everything about this book! A fast paced rollercoaster!
Absolutely unputdownable
A teenage girl is raped and killed at a lake. Her attacker was jailed, but twenty four years later, his friends who vouched for his character are killed one by one.
Detective Madison Knight's fiancee is one of those that vouched for the killer, but he is jailed for the murders of his friends on his wedding day.
Madison has to work quickly to prove the innocence of her future husband.
A really good police procedural. I like that Madison is loyal and believes in Troy's innocence, and goes against the orders of her superiors to investigate the case.
Fast paced and suspenseful, this book will delight fans of the genre and the author.
I recommend.
Thanks to Netgalley and Hibbert & Stiles Publishing Inc. for the opportunity to read this book.
Murder By The Lake, the thirteenth book in the Detective Madison Knight series, starts off with a bang and sucks you in right away. Madison and Troy may be minutes away from exchanging their vows, but, when police officers arrest the groom for murder, well, that will definitely ruin the moment. Unfortunately for Troy, some of his past will come to light, and Madison will do all she can to find out why someone from his past is targeting him, and even worse, doing a great job of framing him. A mystery killer, innocent victims, a strong female detective…what’s not to love. The book is filled with thrills, action, deception, and emotion. The story will have you enthralled as Madison works to uncover the tangled web. Another fast paced and thrilling novel from Carolyn Arnold.
Love Carolyn Arnolds work and totally enjoyed this book centering on Detective Madison Knight. I have had book 1 since 2016 and it got lost on on TBR pile.. Definitely will start the entire series now.
Police officers disrupt the wedding of Detective Madison Knight just as she is to exchange vows with her fiancé Troy Matthews. His childhood friend Dylan Graham was found murdered and evidence at the crime scene indicated that Troy was the killer. As evidence against Trroy begins to pile up, Madison suspects that someone is framing him. She is determined to prove Troy’s innocence and begins her investigation. When she comes closer to the truth she suddenly finds herself being followed. Is the killer after her now?
Madison ready to say I do to Troy, when the cops came. A story of how, her as a Detective works.
Wanting to know the outcome will have you turning pages. A good series and with
each new book I enjoy reading and recommend.
Given arc by Net Galley and Hibbert & Stiles Pub for my voluntary review
I love Carolyn Arnold. I had never read a Madison Knight book before now but loved that it was easy to read as a stand alone book. It was a page turner and I finished it in just two sittings. I highly suggest reading this book!
Thank you to NetGalley and Carolyn Arnold for the ARC!
Murder at the Lake had me from the first page! Madison is about to walk down the aisle to marry Troy, when he is arrested for murder in the middle of their wedding. Madison puts on her detective pants and gets to work to save the one she loves. But can she save him in time? This book was great, I enjoyed every minute of it. The plot was original and I appreciated the twists along the way. I will be adding more Carolyn Arnold books to my reading list. Thanks to Carolyn Arnold, Hibbert & Stiles Publishing Inc. and NetGalley for allowing me to read this book prior to publishing.
Another great Detective Madison Knight book that starts out with a bang. Madison is in her wedding dress ready to be married when her fiancé is arrested. Grabbed me from the start and I couldn’t put it down.
Detective Madison Knight has finally found someone she trusts enough to marry. She and Troy are both part of the police department and understand what the job requires. It is their wedding day, a small gathering at their home with the trappings of a "traditional wedding." Madison is wearing a white wedding gown! However, before the service is completed, officers from a neighboring county arrest Troy for the murder of a high school friend. At first glance, the evidence at the scene (Troy's gun and the deceased's journal claiming Troy raped and murdered a girl in high school) seems all that's needed for an open and shut case; however, Madison and his sister (the Police Chief) know that he is innocent. It is up to them to find the evidence to clear his name because the detectives of the other department have decided he's guilty and are not doing a thorough investigation. When the newly released convicted felon for the high school rape and murder is found dead, again the evidence points to Troy. Now Madison and her partner, Terry, must not only find the evidence to clear Troy but also stop the murderer before it's too late. It's an exciting read. My only wish is that it would have been longer because I didn't want it to end!
Lucky number 13. About time I discovered this series. An engaging and convoluted murder mystery. It kept me turning the pages. Obviously, I have 12 books to read now. This is easily read as a standalone, but since I enjoyed getting to know Detective Madison Knight I want to read more of her adventures. Thanks to the publisher for providing a copy via NetGalley. My review is voluntary.
Yet another amazing book from this author. This is such a great story. Amazing characters and the writing is great

Thanks to Carolyn and NetGalley for allowing me to read Murder at the Lake before the publication date.
In the series, Det Madison Knight has experienced heartbreak and trauma.
Now her life is on track again. She recently bought the house which had belonged to her grandmother and holds good memories for Madison.
Today, she will be marrying her fiancé, Troy Matthews, in that house in front of friends and family.
Even Hershey, Madison’s labrador, has a part to play in the ceremony.
But there are two uninvited attendees when Braybury P.D. Detectives Snow and Friedman gate crash the event and arrest Troy on a charge of murder.
Excluded from the official investigation, Madison has to walk a tight rope as she works to unravel a story that started 25 years earlier, when a teenage girl was raped and murdered at an end of term beach party.
Unfortunately Troy is not helping himself when he refuses to talk about what happened.
Lots of secrets will be revealed and there are plenty of red herrings along the way to keep the reader engaged.
Murder At The Lake - a review by Rosemary Kenny.
Almost a quarter of a century has passed since a young woman's brutal rape and murder in Stiles, during an end of summer beach party.
Now the rapist killer's been released from jail, other partygoers are paying the price too...
including Troy Matthews, on the most important day of his and Detective Madison Knight's lives.
Can Madison unearth the truth?
Will she and Troy ever get their HEA?
