it was ok
bookshelves: netgalley, thriller
I really wanted to like this, and the synopsis sounded so good. Dawn Goodwin is a new-to-me author. I found the characters were flat and I couldn’t even visualize the characters’ appearance or clothes, which I like to be able to do, as it helps me get to know them.
There were some visuals that were OK, like parties or Emma coming back home one night and the way she tricked her parents into thinking she was in bed asleep (that was good). It was interesting that Christina and Lisa had different parenting styles, but sadly I didn’t find their relationships with their daughters or their interactions vivid enough.
I feel the story was slow and I felt distanced from, and pulled out of, it when I so wanted to be engrossed in it.
The chapters were short but they didn’t help the pace for me and I felt confused as to where the story was going.
Sadly. Like Mother, Like Daughter wasn’t gripping at all for me.
Thanks to Dawn Goodwin and publisher for my eARC in exchange for an honest and voluntary review.

This was a very interesting book showing the complexities of mother/daughter relationships and how to navigate through that and through complex friendships as well.
This easy to read thriller contains so many twists and turns that kept me engaged throughout the whole book, it was well written.
3.5 stars.*

This is typically the kind of book that I like to read and I enjoyed the beginning.
However, I found the alluding to the big thing that happened in the past frustrating. Also the repetition of facts, sometimes numerous times. For example Christina and Sophie telling Lisa that Emma wanted to be a comic artist.
I think for me, it felt like story was misleading in that there was the suspicion of a big reveal by Ben, but actually it wasn’t credible.
There were quite a number of errors towards the end and I don’t know why these weren’t picked up when proofreading. It just felt rushed.

"Like Mother Like Daughter" by Dawn Goodwin is a rollercoaster ride through the world of competitive parenting. Lisa Marco's clash with the school mums, especially Christina Valdecchi,. As they face the dreaded call every parent fears, the real question is: Do mothers really know best?

It was brilliant
Lisa was a bitchy clique ever so much that Christina did not even spoke to her
Every parents say that they will look after their daughters
But after the nightmare is brought about secrets and lies
I had an ARC

I persisted with this novel, hopeful that it would meet its potential expectations but unfortunately for me it did not.
I believe that some novels don't need likeable characters but with the topics covered in this novel some characters with honest intentions and likeability would have helped feel empathy.
The relationships are complex but become borderline ridiculous and serious matters are dealt with vaguely whilst concentrating on the drama / unrealistic reactions of the characters.

Once I started reading, I found it hard to put down. So many secrets, misunderstandings, and poor choices were woven between the two timelines, and I enjoyed watching it all play out.
There's a lot of angst between the families as they all fall out with each other. One stand-out moment was the line 'never actually listening to what we are telling you'. This sums up the relationships between them all.
It took something bad for something good to happen. This is such a great dysfunctional family/friends read.

A tense and suspenseful thriller that explores the dark secrets that can hide behind closed doors, with a gripping plot and an unexpected twist.

I enjoyed this book overall, especially being able to explore the relationship between mother and daughter, this wrought relationship definitely adds the intensity and suspense.

I always enjoy mother/daughter dynamics in thrillers. This was a good, face-paced story that kept me guessing. Really enjoyed it. Thank you for the ARC

Lisa Marco has had to face the bitchy clique of school mums for years, ever since her fall out with Christina Valdecchi, the mum of her daughter's best friend. The fun parent that never misses a chance to remind Lisa she doesn't measure up. Lisa was taught that being a good parent meant making the hard choices. She understands why Christina's 'friendship parenting' approach makes her fun, but Lisa's priority is keeping her daughter safe, even if she fears it's driving her daughter away. But tonight when Christina and Lisa get the call that every parent dreads, they will have to confront the choices that brought them here. They say mothers know best, but how well do they really know their daughters?
Wow!!! It was terrific.
Thanks to NetGalley and Aria & Aries, Head Of Zeus for giving me an advance copy.

Wow what a fantastic book this was wasn’t to sure if I would have liked it at first but once I got into it fantastic. It was my first book I have read from this author and it certainly won’t be the last can’t wait to read more. It was gripping read which had me glued to my kindle didn’t want to put it down. Highly recommended. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for my advanced copy.

This is the first book I’ve read from this author and it was a really good read, it had everything in it, the ending I didn’t expect which made it all the better

Another fabulous read from this author. Well written characters with many being easily relatable to. The whole story had me gripped from the word go. My thanks to netgalley and the publisher for my copy. This gets a big five stars from me.

A great mystery thriller. It was very hard to put down. I enjoyed it very much. A few good twists in it

I couldn’t put this down I loved it ! Was full of craziness mysteries and secrets my favourite kind of book. It’s an interesting gripping story showing the relationship between a mother and her daughter. I liked the character they were relate-able and real
Over all a good mystery thriller which I really enjoyed.

I was once told by my mother never get involved if your child falls out with another child because they time the adults are at war the kids are back to being friends...the mums in this book should have taken that advice.
Good read with a few things going on...the playground politics, the mother/daughter relationship and challenges in raising kids
Fairly strong plot that keeps your interest and characters that are believable but overall it wasn't my favourite and I have read many books like it. Good all the same an ideal read for holidays

This is a great read, exploring the dynamics of mother/daughter relationships and the fall out when boundaries are not put in place. The tension racks up and I did wonder what I’d do in each mother’s situation. Loved it!

Playground politics are so much worse when they involve the parents rather than the children of any school. And the case of Christina and Lisa is no exception.
The two mothers are polar opposites when it comes to parenting approaches, with Lisa paying the price for being more thoughtful and less fun in her attempts to raise her daughter.
Even after the two of them have a falling out, there is no way to escape, because their daughters are best friends. And unsurprisingly, Christina benefits from being the mother that everyone wishes they had - because really, having a fun mother is just so much more...fun.
Except there's no fun and games on offer when things go badly wrong, and both mothers find themselves in frighteningly similar situation. Which of them, if either, will find their parenting style validated now?
This is a really interesting story, showing the complex range of mother daughter-dynamics and inevitably making readers who have daughters think about where they fit into the parenting spectrum.
The characters are relatable, and their horror at their predicament is all too believable. An engrossing read, it gets 3.5 stars.
