Once I got into this book, it turned into a one sitting read. It will be a perfect October read when it’s published. It is unique, witty, and darkly funny with great one liners and a different twist on your typical haunted house story. Arden and her best friends throw a graduation party at the local haunted manor in an attempt to collect enough tuition for Arden to go away to school in the fall. Things quickly devolve when blood starts flooding the foyer and as Arden, her ex, and her friends have to fight their way out, Arden also has to come to terms with what her future may look like. I particularly liked the way the stories about the house are interspersed throughout the book. The characters and representation are so good. Arden, Remi, and Maddy May have distinct personalities and their friendship feels very real.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a digital copy and a chance to read this early. All opinions are my own.
This felt like a typical YA horror book. The premise was unique and entertaining. I really enjoyed a smart, clever main character that was comfortable in her own skin and promoted a positive body image.
The banter fell flat at some points throughout the book and it got a bit repetitive as the story progressed. I didn’t think the life lesson at the end of the book was necessary but I didn’t mind it.
A good read if you want a quick, interesting horror book.
Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillian Children’s Publishing Group for providing me with an advance reader copy in exchange for an honest review.

Honestly I didn't really enjoy this one but I cannot pinpoint what about it exactly kept me from enjoying it. I never really connected with any of the characters and continued reading it to just get through it rather than caring about what happened. I do think though if it sounds interesting to you that you should give it a shot because my opinion may not be yours.
The book had a great premise! I liked the idea. There were several moments that kept me in the book. When the ghosts first started to try and get Arden, when the group was dancing beyond their control. I felt like there were a few plot pinpricks (not large enough to be holes at all). Leaving Claire in the foyer felt like she was leftmost of the book. Overall, the book had the theme of hope, and was interesting to read. I enjoyed it.
The cover is definitely want initially drew me to the book. A senior has a house party except the house is haunted and all chaos ensues. I would say the book had a good storyline and character development.
Thank you NetGallery for the e-ARC of this book
It was a good read, wasn't what I was expecting! Thinking happy thoughts to escape was a little juvenile to me. Not exactly what I would think recent high school grads would do more like middle school kids.
A surprisingly poignant and funny murder-house story. Classic teenage post-graduation party takes a bloody turn when the front door seals and windows refuse to shatter. There was wonderful characterization of all the main teens and their individual relationships, with all the struggles one faces as their high school years come to an end. I thought the interwoven haunted house and teen issues worked really well together as the story wound to its climax.
I loved the story, the world building and meeting the different characters. I felt completely immersed in the story and couldn't stop reading it.
I enjoyed this one a lot. I wasn't the biggest fan of some elements of the ending, but overall I had a great time reading this one and just had to know what was going to happen next. I flew through this one.
This book had me hooked immediately. The characters were very strong and I could really get into the writing style
2.5 stars rounded up to 3.0.
Arden dreams of leaving her small, stifling town after high school and study her butt off for the next ten years to become a doctor. Until she finds out her realtor parents spent her tuition money to buy the creepy house on the hill (which may or may not be haunted). Rumors abound about what really happened at Deinhart Manor. All anyone knows for sure is that the family went in, boarded up the doors and windows, and never came back out. And now Arden has the key, which she secretly swiped from her parents. Making the best of a terrible situation, Arden decides to earn back some of her tuition money by charging at the door for a graduation rager, hosted at a haunted house.
What could possibly go wrong? What they didn't know is that just like the Deinharts, whoever goes in may not come out.
The flow of this book was lacking a bit for me. There are various, sporadic scenes implying a haunting (that ultimately end of being important to the climax), but they all happen independent of one another, making it feel scattered and choppy. The ending wrapped it up nicely, but the reading experience was not pleasant.
That being said, I would give five stars to just the characters if I could. The three best friends (Arden, Maddy May, and Remi) are adorable and have such honest, earnest voices, and they actually sound like teenagers (not an adult writing for teenagers).
The premise for this book was intriguing and while I enjoyed the ride, I feel like it wasn't executed as well as it could be. This title by Anderson is, unfortunately, ultimately forgettable.
