Lindsay Rush takes on topics throughout this assembly at poems that many would shy away from. I felt myself relating to so many of these titles and wanted to highlight many lines to remind myself of nuggets of information I need to remember in my daily life.
She is real and relatable, and as a debut author I am really impressed with what was compiled in this book. She also uses humor which is not only entertaining, but also adds levity to some of the heavier topics she addresses, which I can appreciate.
I love the overall theme of being “a bit much” as someone who has always felt the need to hide parts of myself or be just the opposite, not much. Sometimes those who are “a bit much” get a bee reputation and I really appreciated Rush’s take on that concept.
Something else I really enjoyed was the setup and the way it was broken up into sections. This was appealing to me to be able to go back and find my favorite passages and also have an idea of what I was getting (to same extent) in each section. And, within each poem, there seemed to be a lot of comparing and contrasting of big ideas which was a really cool technique. Rush is definitely on my radar now and I look forward to going back through and rereading some of my favorite poems and sharing them with loved ones.

I really enjoy this author and her poetry writing, but I think this isn’t the format to consume it. A physical book or via social media … 5 stars otherwise.

Lyndsay Rush’s debut poetry collection, A Bit Much, is a refreshing and delightful exploration of life’s big emotions and small moments. As someone who isn’t typically drawn to poetry, I found Rush’s work to be accessible, relatable, and enjoyable.
One of the things that immediately stands out about A Bit Much is Rush’s approachable style. She openly admits she’s not an intellectual about poetry, and that’s what makes her poems so accessible. They’re written in plain language, without the need for dissecting or overthinking. This simplicity allows every reader, regardless of their familiarity with poetry, to connect with Rush’s words on a personal level.
Most of the poems are about self love and the female experience, tackling topics from motherhood to challenging societal norms with a blend of humor and sincerity. This was delightful.
Thank you to NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book.

Not your high school poetry textbook.
A lovingly and humorously-crafted anthology that defies society’s directives to shrink/suck in/be quiet/be cool. Rush’s snappy verse elevates everyday millennial experiences and denounces the impulse to bemoan the aging process. Don’t miss this collection that will leave you saying “yes, this!”

Loved this! What do I know of poetry (not much) but I really enjoyed most of the poems here. It’s hard to exist in 2024, but especially as a woman, and Lyndsay Rush has a great way of getting to that point in a succinct and often funny way.
4.5 stars rounded up. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

Big thank you to Netgalley for an advance copy of this wonderful book. It’s not often you read a book of poetry that uses humour and clever turns of phrase to uncover deep truths about the human condition. I’ll be reading this one again and again.

This is easily a new favorite of mine. It was relatable, it was real and it brought the humor. I will use this collection to convert all my friends into poetry lovers.

These were good - witty and light hearted. Usually, I read more dramatic and tragic poems, but I did enjoy these for a little break in between some heavy reading.

This was so good! As a long-time follower of @maryoliversdrunkcousin, I was so excited that Lyndsay got a book deal. I enjoyed so many of these poems, and I highlighted a lot of the second section. A few felt a bit "twee" but overall this is a lovely, thoughtful, and inspiring collection.

Many of these poems were quite witty and made me laugh. But there were a number that were very antagonistic towards my Christian faith which I didn’t appreciate.

I enjoyed how relatable some of the poems were. I will be recommending to my fellow friends.
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity.
3.75 stars.

A Bit Much: Poems is a debut collection of poems from Lyndsay Rush, who gained popularity posting poems on Instagram @maryoliversdrunkcousin. I have followed Lyndsay since stumbling across her titular poem, "She's a Bit Much," a little over a year ago. Her poems are silly and full of feeling. While I adore seeing them come across my feed, I was interested to see how she would do with an entire book. I was not disappointed.
Lyndsay encapsulates the messiness and chaos of life in a way that also reminds us of the beauty surrounding us. She embraces being too sensitive and being cringe. The silliness is counteracted with touching and tender moments that highlight what it is to be human. She reminds us not to take life too seriously.
A Bit Much: Poems is a book that will resonate with a specific crowd. It is silly. It is not the most outstanding literary work, but it was fun! It brought a smile to my face and above all, it made me grateful to be human, despite all the chaos that comes with it.
It is 72 degrees and sunny
the wind is at my back
and the only thing I want
is everything I already have.

I just could not get into this one. I was hoping to love it as I'm the target audience (millennial! a fan of some instagram-like poetry). But I never connected as much as I'd hoped for this one. A case of - "it's me......not you" for this poetry collection by Rush

Incomparable. I hated poetry until I came across the brilliant Lyndsay Rush. She’s hilarious, fresh, and authentically herself. I rarely leave 5 star reviews. This collection of her poems deserves every one. I will purchase for friends and family and together we will slowly convert others to the gifts of poetry. Kudos, Lyndsay. Screw any misguided haters. They don’t deserve an ounce of your exceptional mind or courageous heart. Excuse me while I start back at the beginning and savor each poem again.

This collection of poems is perfect for the social media minded millennial. Funny, engaging, and current. These prose are perfect for those of us who don't know where to begin with poetry, especially modern poetry. Rush is relatable and it is easy to sit with her verses and meditate on them. While describing her own experiences, there are places where the reader can inject their own. I won't be surprised to see this collection everywhere when it's published!

Lyndsay's poems had me laughing, tearing up, and feeling all the feels. The poems are grouped by feelings so you can find what you need easily.

A lovely collection of poetry I had a wonderful time reading them and will be gifting this collection to friends.#netgalley #abrams books #netgalley #abramsbooks

Thank you NetGalley & Lyndsay Rush for the ARC of A Bit Much.
I enjoyed the poems and related to quite many of them. I am a woman in my 30s feeling unsure of herself & I found reading this book of poems was immensely inspirational.

I love Lyndsay Rush on Instagram so I was so happy to see her book on NetGalley! Some of the poems were a little silly for me, but overall it was an uplifting collection of poetry from a woman who actively looks for and creates joy in her life. What’s not to like? It inspired me to do the same, and I think that’s its intent. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the e-arc.

I picked this up because I needed a good cry, and boy did it deliver!
There are so many ways Lyndsay’s poems hit me like an arrow straight to the heart: I’m a white woman just entering my 30’s; I have long wrestled with the ideas I inherited about my faith and my body and my purpose; I am and have always been ‘too’ sensitive and ‘too’ loud; I am profoundly grateful that I have people in my life who love me in spite of, or perhaps because of, my muchness.
The fact that someone like Lyndsay can just perfectly capture the enormity of any one of those feelings in a few short lines of poetry makes me overcome with emotion. It is so beautiful to witness someone making art that is so achingly human, and to be so affected by it makes me feel grateful to be alive. So, thank you Lyndsay, for your vulnerability, your humor, and your encouragement. Don’t be surprised if I get at least one of your sentences tattooed on my skin as a reminder to be kind to my sensitive-ass-self.
