Thank you NetGalley for providing an ARC of Sand, Sequins & Silicone!
Pia Mia's Sand, Sequins & Silicone is a captivating blend of glamour, grit, and self-reflection, offering a fresh perspective on themes of identity, ambition, and self-expression.
Pia Mia's writing style is conversational yet poetic, drawing readers in with a sense of authenticity and relatability. This makes the book feel personal and heartfelt.
While the central figure is compelling, some supporting characters could use additional development to enhance the overall dynamics of the narrative.
Over all, I enjoyed the book and would pick up her next book to read as well.
While the premise of Sand, Sequins & Silicone—a young artist navigating fame, love, and friendship in Hollywood—seems intriguing, the execution fell flat for me. The plot felt weak, with overly detailed descriptions that added little value and often bogged down the story. Princess, the protagonist, and her relationships lacked depth, making it hard to connect with her or her friends. The writing felt more suited for a Wattpad audience, coming across as immature and disjointed, with too many characters to keep track of and little emotional engagement. While I normally enjoy Hollywood-themed stories, this one was difficult to get through, and I found myself struggling to stay invested. Congratulations to Pia Mia on her debut, but this one didn’t work for me. Thanks to NetGalley and Frayed Pages x Wattpad Books for the ARC. Two stars.
This is a debut novel from Pia Mia that follows a young starlet navigating her way through Hollywood, and all the secrets and gossip surrounding it. It was an enjoyable read, and left me wanting to know what happens next!
Read this book back when it was still an e-story on Wattpad and I must say , it lacked something. Even though Pia tries to tell a captivating story, the book fails to capture a reader completely
Great book for a debut! It had a solid idea and storyline, but I think it lacked more editing to make it more clear and give it a better flow.
Glitz, glamour and backstabbing.
Princess's star is on the rise. Together with her friends Jessie, Maya and Val they enjoy the life of the rich and famous in Hollywood. . But all that glitters isn't gold and there are those that are jealous of Princess and her fame. They do everything they can to take her down.
This was such a fun read. I love the glitz and glam. The backstabbing was painful to read about it. But I loved the tight knit circle Princess has with her friends. I highly recommend this debut novel and look forward to seeing what else Pia Mia writes.
Cute story about a star's rise to fame. Lots of drama and fake friends. Win was my favorite character. Absolutely loved that man. This book was a quick and easy read, perfect for the summertime!
This was a fun story about an artist who is more down to Earth than anyone else. I loved seeing her friendships grow and she kept her girls around her while her fame got bigger. I do wish there was more with Win and the management: they all seemed like such interesting characters. There was so much rivalry during her climb for fame and it shows how some friendships won't make it while others thrive.
I absolutely love Pia Mia and her music so I was super excited to find out she had a book coming out! Sand, Sequins & Silicone is about Princess who moved to LA to share her music and find real love but Hollywood wasn’t what she thought it would be. The book was such a light and easy read. It gives you a glimpse of the highs and lows of fame in the music industry. Thank you NetGalley and Wattpad WEBTOON Book Group for providing me with an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Princess is a new upcoming artist in Hollywood trying to figure out fame, love, friendship, and everything else that can come with attention in that hectic industry.
It’s very detailed so you really get to know everything about everyone in the book. The writing isn’t the best, there are too many details and words explaining every thought and moment happening. The characters feel immature and surface level in my opinion. I do like how transparent the book is though. It gives a lot of good insight of the industry as Pia Mia said it is an auto biography.
This book is the perfect summer read. I love Pia Mia so when I saw she was releasing her debut book I was like I need to have this. I absolutely loved it.
If you love a beach setting, coming of age, heartbreak, friendship and betrayals then this book is the one for you
I just love that Pia wrote a book and this was so fun. Such a light and perfect summer read. The best book to share with a friend to take on a summer trip or to the beach.
This was a cute read. I liked how the book peeled back the curtain and showed what its like to be a pop star working in the music industry. I found the time jumps to be a bit confusing and there were too many secondary characters but overall thought this was a fun, fast read!
I truly really wanted to love this book, but it just did not live up for me. I think a lot of people will end up loving it, but it just fell flat for me.
Pia Mia delivers a captivating debut novel with 'Sand, Sequins and Silicone,' offering readers an intimate glimpse into the highs and lows of fame in the music industry. Set against the backdrop of sunny Los Angeles, the story follows Princess as she navigates the complexities of stardom, friendship, and love in the glittering world of Hollywood.
From the outset, Princess's journey is both exhilarating and bittersweet, as she grapples with the pressures of fame while striving to stay true to herself. Pia Mia's insider perspective lends authenticity to the narrative, immersing readers in the fast-paced world of celebrity culture and the music industry.
The dynamics of Princess's relationships, both with her friends and with the enigmatic blue-eyed man who captures her heart, are beautifully depicted, adding depth and emotional resonance to the story. While the glamour of Hollywood shines brightly, the novel also explores the darker side of fame, delving into themes of loneliness, betrayal, and the quest for authenticity in a world defined by illusion.
I found myself drawn to Princess's journey of self-discovery and resilience, rooting for her as she navigates the challenges of fame and finds her own voice amidst the noise of the industry. While the spice may be light, the story is rich in heart and emotion, making it a compelling and engaging read from start to finish.
Overall, 'Sand, Sequins and Silicone' is a captivating tale that will appeal to fans of celebrity culture, romance, and music. Pia Mia's authentic voice and heartfelt storytelling shine through, making this novel a must-read for anyone looking for an insider's perspective on the realities of fame and the power of staying true to oneself. Thank you to Wattpad Webtoon Book Group for providing this book for review consideration via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
This is Pia’s debut novel, and it’s such a cute, fluffy, beach read, just in time for summer. I wasn’t sure what to expect when going into this, and was pleasantly surprised. This just left me happy, and was a fun escape from reality. Recommend to anyone looking for a beach read in time for summer!
I thought this book was okay but it wasn’t my favourite. If I was to recommend this book to someone I would recommend it to someone who is trying to get into reading. This is because it is quite easy to follow
You know how sometimes someone is spilling the tea and you can just TELL they are twisting the narrative to make themselves the sweet innocent victim and everyone else is the Big Evil Villion? This book read like that. I don't actually know who Pia Mia is, but a quick Google shared the fact that she would be asked to sing lullabies to friends at sleepovers, which comes up in the book, so I'm inclined to think there's aspects of this that are drawn from her experiences and I mean... this kinda feels like a diss-track in novel form. Who hurt you, Pia?
Characters: I don't trust a word out of Princess's mouth or a thought in her head, but I found her voice enjoyable. 7/10 (x2)
Atmosphere: The rising popstar vibe was REAL. 8/10 (x2)
Writing: There was a bit of time jumping that didn't feel smooth, and parts that read a bit awkwardly, but overall it was decent. 7/10 (x3)
Plot: Predictable, but not boring. 7/10
Intrigue: There wasn't any point where I didn't want to pick it back up, but I'm also not DYING for a sequel. 7/10
Logic: It all made sense, for being a dramatic overblown pop star story. 8/10.
Enjoyment: I enjoyed the ride. 8/10 (x3)
Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC!
I just reviewed Sand, Sequins & Silicone by Pia Mia. #SandSequinsSilicone #NetGalley. I normally like reading about Hollywood but I found this book really hard to get through. At first, I thought I missed the first couple of chapters and I went back and redownloaded it. Of course, I didn't. I also found there was too many characters. I found myself flipping back to see who that person was in relations to the main character. I normally would have DNF this book but since I received it as part of of #NetGalley, I felt compelled to finish it.
