I give this five stars,. Great series of short memoir-type essays/stories from a Hollywood veteran, if not a well-known star.

Full of laugh-out-loud funny essays and very serious commentary on events in Sam Harris’ life, Ham: Slices of Life is a treat to read. The stories are not told in the order they happened but that doesn’t matter as one does not necessarily build on another. Mr. Harris is an actor so it should be no surprise that this book is highly entertaining.
I suppose you could call this a memoir but really it’s more like sitting down and talking because so many things are covered in random order. If you are thinking you can’t identify with a celebrity, think again. Mr. Harris is just like the rest of us, mostly. And before you get the idea that no serious subjects are tackled here let me disabuse you of that notion with two words: attempted suicide. An awkward mfm menage that segued into a first gay kiss and more. Following the “Summer of Scott” there was loneliness, bullying, and depression. The attempted suicide was interrupted by a true crisis and suddenly he had to get the pills out of his stomach fast and take care of his brother.
There’s a little something here for everyone. Laughter, angst, parenthood, childhood, all of it delivered with style and wit. I enjoyed it very much.
