I was excited about this book, which I assumed was a transitional chapter book, or "quick pick" as I call them in my library. However, within the first page, I was concerned about the vocabulary. I love that there are Cree words but I think it would be very helpful to bold them to help students know that these are words that they may not know. The words that initially concerned me are: "bosom," "perplexing," "angst," "situation," and "hollering." I think this will scare some kiddos off before they give the story a chance.

I think this is a great story to read aloud for kiddos, I just cannot imagine handing it to a second grader (the typical audience for my "quick pick" section) and them feeling comfortable reading it independently.

Thank you to Annick Press and Net Galley for the eARC!

My kids and I have so enjoyed reading this fun story together. The characters were so adventurous and brave! My kids couldn’t wait to keep reading to find out what happened, it was beautiful. A really fun read! Highly recommend.

I am not the right audience for this book. I will, however, recommend it to one of my friends who is mom to a sweet little girl who will probably enjoy reading it!

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an ebook copy of this book.

Poor Sarah has moved away from her friends and started in another school, where she feels different and as though she doesn't fit in. She keeps touch with her cultural roots and has a magical adventure. She also meets a friend who is brave and helps her find her similarities with her new friends.
This is a great book on how your cultural heritage can help you keep your confidence while meeting new people. Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this
