The only thing I didn't like about this story was how short it was. I would have loved to spend more time with the sassy Margo Halifax and her hero-who-loves-first, Henry! I listened to this in audio book format and the narrator brought this story to life for me. I felt like I was there on the road trip that these two take to find Margo's sister. I battled the weather with them, enjoyed the only available cottage/bed with them, and watched as they realized that maybe they were perfect for each other. I was pleasantly surprised to find that this novella had everything I look for in good story...angst, romance, unrequited love, strong chemistry, fun banter, and, of course, all the feels. It's shocking (and wonderful) that the author managed to give the reader deep and likeable characters, complicated emotions, and some some very swoonworthy moments in this short historical rom-com. Ms. Vasti is a new-to-me author but I believe that's all going to change...I need more of her words in my life!

Delightful and spicy novella that actually had all my favourite tropes in historical romances: virgin MC, one bed, road trip and pining. Have I mentioned it was spicy? Surely, I did. Though I haven't mentioned yet that unexpectedly it left me teary during the confession of love. The audacity!
And since it was and audiobook, I should say that the narrator did a great job, both with the FMC and the MMC.

Thanks to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the arc!

In Which Margo Halifax Earns Her Socking Reputation packs a lot of plot into the novella sized story. I love a historical road trip, complete with a race to Gretna Green and carriage accident. The virgin hero’s years of unrequited love was so endearing and his fiery, unconventional, bisexual heroine was a delight. Honestly, I couldn’t relate more when her reticule “contained nothing but money, a novel, and a significant amount of cheese.” Not only did we get the only one bed trope, but also the only horse trope, which I find equally thrilling.
I adore Mhairi Morrison’s narrations and this was no exception. Excited to get my hands on more from the Halifax Helions.

I've read this book previously and was excited to get the chance to listen to the audiobook. It is just as amazing the second time around and the narrator did a fantastic job showcasing the insecurities of Margo, as well as the hopelessness of Henry's love for her, with his years long crush. It was a quick listen and I would recommend either reading but the audiobook really does help highlight key parts in the novella. The story itself was the start to my Alexandra Vasti addiction. The adorable chaos demon that's Margo, with her freckles and gap tooth, you can't help but also fall in love with her along with Henry who's as straight-laced as they come. It was sweet, sexy and paced perfectly, with some surprises and truth bombs in between.

Wonderful novella! An astounding debut for Alexandra Vasti, steamy, gorgeously written, with adorable characters and a delightful romp around the English countryside. The narrator is good, a little bit too breathy maybe, but she did a wonderful job at fleshing the characters out, especially Margo. I’ll definitely listened to the other audiobooks of the series!

3.75?

I really enjoyed this book! It's fast and fun and steamy. It's not one that will stick in my head for a long time, but I had few complaints with it and am eager to get my hands on the rest of the Halifax Hellions.

What was most impressive was that it was a novella but never felt like insta-love or irritatingly-surface-level which novellas tend to do. The beginning was a bit abrupt and hard to follow, but that's what gave the solid backstory for the characters and relationships to feel not-abrupt. Okay words are failing me right now, but what I'm trying to articulate is that this was a novella done right.

-inexperienced hero
-boy obsessed
-boy falls first
-brother's best friend
-very experienced bi heroine
-only one bed/random cottage when caught in the rain
-only one horse
-"road-trip" quest to Gretna Green to stop her sister's elopement
-different classes
-lots of chemistry and tension and spicy scenes

If anything I thought the ending was a bit abrupt, but I may just be used to eplilogues. I'm excited to see more of Margo and Henry in Matilda's book.

The audiobook narration was incredible and I will definitely be checking out more stories read by Mhairi Morrison.

Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the audio arc in exchange for an honest review.

I'm a sucker for some good ol' fashioned yearning and this book delivered it along with a hearty dose of spice.

I tend to shy away from audiobooks because I'm so easily distracted and forget to process what I'm listening to. But this one had great pacing, a really pleasant narrator, and the story was delightful. It held my attention the whole time!

"He could see the freckles that dotted her neck and the brief expanse of skin above her bodice. He wanted to kiss each one."

Alexandra Vasti is one of my favourite authors and if you never read anything of her works you are missing big time!
"In Which Margo Halifax Earns Her Shocking Reputation" is the debut novella of Vasti's Halifax Hellions series.
This was my second time "reading" this novel. Because I couldn't pass the opportunity of re-reading this delightful book. It's a fast paced novella with an enchanting plot were Margo, our MFC, is on a mission to stop her twin sister from ruining her life. And to prevent this disaster she convinces Henry, our the MMC, to help her stop the runaway couple from arriving to Gretna Green. Listening to this story unfold a second time in audio form was wonderful! The narrator was flawless!

In this novel you have:
- Mutual pining!
- Brother’s best friend trope
- Virgin hero trope
- Friends to lovers trope
- Smut
- Road trip romance

This is such a cute story and you will totally read the next instalments of this series I'm sure of it!

A huge thank you to Netgalley, to the author Alexandra Vasti and to Dreamscape Media for providing me with a copy of his audiobook.

Title: In Which Margo Halifax Earns Her Shocking Reputation (audio)
Author: Alexandra Vasti
Genre: Romance
Rating: 4 out of 5

The Halifax Hellions are the most scandalous, outrageous, ungovernable ladies in London. From the day of their debut—in which Matilda smoked a cheroot and Margo tied a cherry stem in a knot with her tongue—they’ve turned the ton upside down. But when Matilda elopes with a dangerous aristocrat, Margo must stop her twin before this new misadventure becomes a permanent marriage. For help, Margo turns to her brother’s best friend—because if anyone can get them to Scotland in time, it’s starchy solicitor Henry Mortimer.

Henry Mortimer has precisely one secret in his otherwise buttoned-up life: he’s been in love with Margo for seven wonderful, agonizing years. When she turns up at his doorstep, soaked to the skin and desperate for his help, he cannot turn her down. A week alone in a carriage with the object of his desires an arm’s length away? Surely he can survive that. He hopes.

But the road to Scotland is paved with disasters—caves and crashes and the bloody rain that keeps forcing Henry to hold a damp, shivering, dreadfully tempting Margo in his arms. Only an unstoppable force could drag the truth of Henry’s affection from his lips. Unfortunately for him, Margo Halifax has yet to be stopped.

This was a cute, fun audiobook. Margo is more than a little impetuous and self-absorbed, but she’s at least aware of other people and tries not to hurt them. Henry’s naivete was charming and cute, and I loved how the two of them ended up together. I enjoyed the narrator as well, and her accents and inflections.

Alexandra Vasti lives in Louisiana. In Which Margo Halifax Earns Her Shocking Reputation is her newest novel.

I am so pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this audiobook! For a historical romance novella, the author did a great job of giving us lovable characters to be interested in with a storyline that was deep enough to invest in but not too complicated to feel like we needed more. There was so much spice as well in such a short read without making it the only focus. I would definitely read/listen to the rest of the series. The narrator was a perfect fit for this story!

In Which Margo Halifax Earns Her Shocking Reputation was such a run romp that I wanted it to last longer! Usually novellas aren't fleshed out for me to enjoy them, but I think Alexandra Vasti did a great job of both giving us enough to enjoy both characters, AND leaving us wanting more.

The very first chapter captured me as you see Margo through Henry's eyes. He is so besotted with Margo that he must support her in her spontaneous adventure to save her twin sister from ruin. In the process of chasing down the sister, Henry and Margo face their feelings for each other.

I liked this one enough that I can easily see myself doing a quick re-read before the next in the series!

I had heard only good things about the Halifax Hellions, and I was excited to listen to the first installment, In Which Margo Halifax Earns Her Shocking Reputation. Despite its somewhat clunky title, this short little romantic audiobook was one delightful ride.

Margo is in pursuit of her twin sister Matilda, who has run off to Gretna Green with a dangerous aristrocrat. But as a lady cannot travel on her own, she enlists the help of her brother's best friend Henry, a serious solicitor--who has secretly pined for her for the past seven years. Together they make their way toward Scotland, but on the road, in close quarters, truths are revealed and emotions laid bare, and it isn't just Mildred who ends up finding her happy ending.

Mhari Morrison delivers a dynamic performance, making this audiobook a wonderful experience, and at just at 3.5 hours, it's a totally manageable listen for an afternoon or a short road trip. Thank you Dreamscape Media for my ALC.

I have to admit, this wasn't at all what I expected... It's a historical novella that I thought was about two rebellious twin sisters and their respective suitors. But it's a very spicy account of what happens when one of the twins runs away to elope and the other decides to pursue her in hopes of stopping what she considers to be an ill match. She convinces Henry, her brother's best friend, to go with her, and they end up not being able to handle the enforced close proximity.

Overall, if you're interested in books with a lot of sexual tension (and release), then you might enjoy this. But I felt like it was really lacking in character development or storyline.

Thank you to Alexandra Vasti, Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for an advance review copy.

Listening to this on audio just confirmed why this book was five stars and why I will read any single thing Alexandra Vasti writes. Just when I thought Margo couldn’t get anymore delightful I was reminded that she set off on her adventure completely underpacked and yet totally prepared because she put a bunch of cheese in her purse.
A++ and I have a new HistRom bff

This is a fresh Regency romance, light as a feather. Margo is one of the Halifax Hellion twins who sets off on a wild goose chase to catch her sister who is eloping to Scotland. She takes Henry (delicious, hapless, smitten, loyal Henry) on a frantic carriage ride to stop her sister.

Alexandra Vasti is seemingly not concerned with the details - a bridled horse? Where are the bags? How many coincidences? Do they know where to go, and so on, but it's a rollicking romp through the countryside, complete with yearning, swooning, throbbing and only one cabin. If I had a quibble, it's that I didn't always like Margo's self-absorption - she was so indulgent and attention-seeking. Margo's dawning of self-awareness was so sudden I couldn't help feeling a bit sorry for Henry. It does all work out in the end and I'm sure Henry will be up to the task!

The audiobook is narrated by Mhairi Morrison and it works a treat. Her very English voice seamlessly captures both Margo and Henry. I loved how well the audio flowed. Chapters are short enough to listen in batches and it certainly enlivened my morning walks!

Thank you to Goodreads and Alexandra Vasti for the ALC.

A very quick listen! This audio version of the novella is delightful and engaging. The narrator, Mhairi Morrison, is a perfect fit for Margot and lovely to listen to. She does a fantastic job voicing Henry as well and overall it's a very smooth narration.

Margo is a loud, outrageous and utterly fun heroine! Henry is her perfect counterpart: steady, more serious but just as passionate. They have plenty of chemistry and there are multiple spicy scenes to attest to that chemistry. I love that they spend the majority of the time on a road trip, following Margo's sister. It gives forced proximity, he falls first, pining, tension, only one bed/horse, friends to lovers, opposites attract, etc. For a novella, it gives the reader lots to love and the story and characters feel fully developed. The writing is very well done and it's truly the definition of short and sweet... and spicy (; I recommend it to any historical romance readers but even those who don't typically read/listen to historical romance will like this and it's a quick listen so definitely worth trying.

The truth? I have been edging this novella for awhile, ever since first hearing about Alexandra Vasti and her Ungovernables Facebook Group. Like any typical reader late to the game in a series, I read Spencer Halifax’s novella first and adored it, so I was thrilled to see Margo getting her own audio novella narration. Mhairi Morrison was the perfect voice for Margo and Henry; I found her easy to listen to and engaging, adding a beautiful tone to this story.
As one half of the Halifax Hellions, Margo is so much fun as a heroine. She’s bold, high-spirited, rebellious, and carefree and in her own words, terrible at making plans. So when she inadvertently decides to charge off to Gretna Green to save her twin sister Matilda from an ill-planned elopement, she asks Henry Mortimer, her brother’s starchy solicitor brother to join her. Henry and Margo could not be more opposite, yet that is what makes them delightfully perfect for each other. In true Vasti style, we have all the storytelling combined with all the spiciness to make this a perfect first novella. I love it when the bandaid is ripped off, so to speak, and characters realize that they are desperate for each other—that A-ha moment is perfect for Margo as circumstances help her to suddenly see Henry in a new light. And poor Henry, he just can’t help but be smitten with Margo, ever since she bewitched him with her cherry stem knotting IYKYK. This novella felt fully realized and I hope I get to hear Mhairi Morrison narrate Matilda’s story. I’m so curious to see what will become of her on the road to Gretna Green. Thank you to Dreamscape media and NetGalley for my early audio copy. All opinions are my own.

Thank you to the publishers, author and NetGalley for the free copy of this audio book.

Quick, steamy read! I like a little more of a plot generally but for the length of this it actually was pretty decent in that regard. I could see this being an enjoyable series overall. The narrator did a good job.

🥵🌶️

This book is spicy and short. Margo & Matilda Halifax have quite saucy reputations. They have been shocking the ton for quite some time. When Matilda runs away to elope with an older suitor. Margo requests Henry her brothers best friend to come with her. Henry has been secretly in love with Margo for nine long years. As they traveling to Scotland they get to know each other in New ways. 😉🌶️

The writing and narration were both very well done. I immensely enjoyed this book. 🥵🌶️😉😍
