I loved learning more about Mexican home cooking and ingredients. This cookbook is full of lovely, delicious, healthy recipes that is a perfect addition to any shelf! I highly recommend this lovely book!
A great book with lots of ideas that shy away from your average Mexican cookbook. Some new family favourites!
I tend to enjoy mostly Texmex cuisine as an American and it was wonderful to see the authentic Mexican version of my favorites. I especially liked the migas. The book was easy to navigate. I wish it had more little anecdotes about mexican culture or folklore. I really enjoyed the various substitutions offered with each recipe.
Beautiful book with stunning photographs throughout. I can’t wait for a physical copy to slowly turn page by page. To get it dirtied in the kitchen from all the delicious Mexican meals I plan to cook from this book.
Thanks NetGalley for the sneak peek
A very authentic home style Mexican cookbook. The recipes are not flashy, complicated, or sophisticated. they are comfy and homely and very family friendly - since lots of recipes let you adjust the spice level and a lot of the flavours are based on the always popular cheese, tortilla, tomato combo.
There are images for every single recipe, which is always important, when like me you are mainly inspired to cook by what you see - and it helps judge how to cut up or how long to cook things.
An authentic and vibrant cookbook that will give you all the tools and recipes you need to perfect your favorite Mexican dishes and give you the confidence to try new ones. I am Mexican American and grew up on some of these recipes and love how authentic to the culture it is. I was excited to try so many new recipes and the description/steps are very easy to follow. It's great that readers get a bit of background info on the basics of cooking traditional Mexican food and how descriptive everything is! This will be a staple cookbook in my kitchen!
Beautiful cookbook!
This book is well laid out, and the use of vibrant colours and photographs throughout makes each dish look thoroughly enjoyable. I particularly like the intro to each recipie, explaining some background to the food, as well as some of the authors personal experiences.
The whole book is a journey into the Mexican culture through food. It would be a great addition to any kitchen!
To start out this cookbook builds on top of the first one, "The Mexican Home Kitchen." The different sections include: Customs, Pantry which tells you the important ingredients for the cuisine, and Tools. The recipes are categorized by the meal and there are "notas" which I love! The recipes are easy to follow and the photos are amazing! Some of the recipes I'm dying to try are the Creamy Chipotle Chicken, Rollo de Fresa, Torrejas, Chilorio, and Birria de Res. Just flipping through this cookbook and viewing the recipes I knew it was an instant buy! I even bought the first cookbook mentioned above! I'm so excited and I can't wait for this one to come out! Can I give it more than 5 stars???
Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group – Rock Point for this ARC! ♥
This is a solid cookbook with easy to follow recipes and great pictures to go along with them. I prefer recipe books that are well-supported with photos, so this is a big plus for me.
In trying out the book, I prepared the following recipes to take to a family event:
- Chilorio (p48)
- Spicy Pork Short Ribs (p118)
- Moros Con Cristianos (p157)
- Gorditas Dulces (202)
Given my remote location and limited access to certain ingredients, some minor substitutions had to be made, but these dishes went down very well. They were straightforward to prepare and disappeared very quickly from the communal table!
I will be returning to this book for a long time to come!
A colourful and easy to follow cookbook which is a great background to traditional Mexican cooking. The recipes were hearty and well-explained, instructions were easy to follow. Perhaps slightly too simple for more experimental, experienced cooks, but a great place to start for those new to Mexican cuisine with nice introductions to each chapter.
Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for the ARC of this cookbook!
I absolutely loved this cookbook. I have her first cookbook on my Amazon wishlist. The vibrant cover is what attracted me to her first cookbook and it's what got my attention with the second one as well.
The table of contents made me very excited especially the al pastor tacos and suadero taco recipes. I'm also excited to try the mole verde recipe.
Let me start off by saying that I was born and raised in a Mexican vegetarian household, but I eventually started to eat meat. I was taught by my mil how to cook lots if not all of the Mexican dishes with meat that I know. So, I definitely know how to cook (I now own my own Mexican restaurant) and am familiar with many of the techniques. With that being said, I enjoy collecting cookbooks and learning new recipes or new ways to make something I already know.
The layout is simple and easy to follow, and so are the recipes.
I made the Al pastor tacos and they were so good! I loved how kitchen/stovetop friendly this recipe was written. Others use the oven or try to make a mini trompo and use the oven, which I think is too much work.
The marinade was easy to make with not too many ingredients and it still was flavorful.
I can't wait to get my hand on this new cookbook (and her first one) and add it to my collection so I can try her other recipes.
Thank you for allowing me to review this book in exchange for an honest review.
This cookbook is really pretty. I imagine in paper format (versus electronic) I would find it to be just as gorgeous. The front description introduces a lot of basics of Mexican cooking. The recipes in this cookbook were very simplistic to me and I believe they would be beneficial to someone that was just getting into cooking Mexican food or someone that doesn't like complicated recipes with lots of ingredients. For where I am in my Mexican cooking experience, I found most of these to be too simplistic and I would likely just be able to cook them without a recipe. This may be a good graduation gift for a new college student that is moving out on their own and building their own personal Mexican cooking skills though.
This is a great recipe book, gorgeous photos, with a personal touch from the author.
I really appreciated the focus on home cooking, including fairly simple recipes that require very few ingredients but pack a punchy flavour, and introduce readers to new dishes, even though they might not be very ambitious or even might seem self-explanatory (e.g. chorizo and potatoes), the point is, they give you a chance to have 'Mexico in Your Kitchen' which I liked a lot.
So far I have tried and enjoyed the simpler recipes, Molletes are now a house favourite for a weekend brunch, and I'll update this review with any further experiments.

I will never get tired of Mexican cookbooks! This is an excellent addition and worth anyone's time.
I particularly want to try the Ceviche recipe!
I received a free ebook copy from NetGalley in exchange for a fair review.
This is an especially lovely book, as the author peppers stories and personal anecdotes about the recipes and cooking throughout. It makes this cookbook a wonderful addition to the home chef’s library. Lots of beautiful photos and recipes in here. There are lots of cool ideas I’d like to try, especially the breakfast stuff!
Mexico in your Kitchen focuses on authentic Mexican recipes. The cookbook includes Mexican food customs and pantry items needed.
The sections are breakfasts, antojitos, soups, main dishes, sides, salsas, and peppers, desserts and breads, & drinks.
The recipes includes easy to follow recipes with an accompanied photo of the recipe. Each recipes include Notas that help if you do not have a certain ingredient or just things to keep in mind. Absolutely beautiful colors and photos. Also the drinks looks so good and refreshing! Such a good book for someone wanting to get into Mexican food for themselves. I am so excited to try my hand at making some of these recipes :)
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This is a pretty straightforward and easy to follow cookbook with a lot of staples in Mexican cuisine. There is no nutritional information but it has some background information and notes on some of the recipes. Pictures are also included. It has some creative recipes that I was not expecting like vegan veggie tamales and a section just for salsas and sides. I am definitely excited to try the Mexican wedding cookies and capirotada. It even has how to make conchas! There is a nice selection of recipes to use and it all looks very good.
Special thanks to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group-Rock Point for sharing this book with me in exchange for my honest review.
These recipes all looked so good! I am really excited to try some of these for dinners, especially as the weather gets warmer!
The photos in this book are beautiful and the recipes seem to strike the balance between being interesting and authentic while also remaining relatively accessible for the average person to make at home. I had read and used Martinez's first cookbook and this one was just as good!
