This was one of the best, most exciting Psy-Changeling books so far. Nailini never disappoints and always creates new ways to thrill and bring you amazing characters and a love story while building more of the world. Love, Love, loved Auden and Remi. Auden's baby affecting the Net was a brilliant twist I can't wait for more. Carly Phillips, NYT Bestselling Author
This book felt like coming home. Honestly it felt like a starting point to a new series where there were so many ways the characters could go and I really hope that's the case. I loved Auden. She was fierce from the first page and one of my favorite heroines now. Remi reminded me so much of Lucas, but in his own way. There were two special surprises in this book that made me kick my legs in glee and I REALLY hope something comes of it.
I truly loved this book and cannot wait to read more! And OMG that ending!
CW The heroine is a Psy, so she has suffered abuse as a child. Every book in this series with a Psy main character will feature child abuse.
Absolutely incredible! I have loved Remi since we've met him in Shards of Hope, so I'm excited to read his story.
The book felt quite different than previous books. Maybe because of Auden's situation, maybe because it's book #23 in the series. There is a lot of focus on Auden's mental health and her being pregnant. I will have to read it a few more times to better identify why it feels different. As I loved every page it's not a hardship;).
I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I'm going to reveal a big plot point at the end of this review, if you don't want to read it, STOP.
Nalini Singh does it agin, continuing the overarching storylines of the Psy-Trinity series (the fracturing of PsyNet, the Scarabs) while also exploring a new generation of Psy and Changelings. This time, it's a new pack of cats in the Great Smoky Mountains, led by new alpha Remi. The property near the cats' territory has long been owned by Shoshanna Scott, absentee owner and powerful Psy councilor. When her daughter, Auden Scott, comes to claim it, she meets Remi and sparks fly as much as they can between a tightly-wound, mentally damaged Psy and a suspicious leopard shifter. Auden's own mind and body are keeping secrets from her, and as she slowly unravels them, she will face a choice: herself or her future?

Here's where it gets WEIRD. Auden is explicitly described as having ebony skin and dark, curly hair, reading as Black. The twist is that the baby she's carrying isn't her genetic material, it's her mother's child (her half sister), who is white, "ice-white", like Shoshanna. And Auden names her Liberty. So a Black woman's body is hijacked by a powerful white woman to carry a white ubermensch baby named LIBERTY, and then the Black woman's body/brain will be used to save the white baby and their shared mother? I don't often stop to take notes when I read a book, but this FLOORED ME.
This was good and I liked how it moves the overall story line along but I wasn't all that interested in the two main characters.
Auden's parents did an experiment on her brain when she was a child and now, she suffers from a brain injury. She has memory loss and loss of time issues among other things. When she ends up pregnant without her consent, she decides to take a stand. When she meets Leopard alpha Remi Denier she feels and immediate connection. When she decides to trust Remi the real battle begins. As always with a Nalini Singh book I could not put it down. Wonderful story flow with characters you can't help but feel for. With the overarching story line of the psynet crisis I cannot wait for the next book.
Primal Mirror is the latest installment in the Psy Changeling Trinity series by Nalini Singh. Singh is the best paranormal romance author in the game. She's created such a vast universe and has written so many beloved characters. I couldn't pass up a chance at reading her latest work! Remi and Auden's story was well crafted, well written, and well paced. Auden is the daughter of former counselors Henry and Shoshanna. Names sound familiar? Remi was introduced to readers earlier as the Alpha of a new pack. I had such a great time reading about these two. The romance was great and there's one trope I loved that was explored here as well. Like all of her other work, there was more focus on the plot and the arc that ties all the books together. Still a great book and can't wait for the next.
Once again, Nalini Singh does not disappoint. Primal Mirror is the story of Remi, a new alpha in a new pack. Then we meet Auden, a psy that seems…a little different. Remi is fascinated with her. He first sees her when he is patrolling the border of his pack land. She is with some other psy, but not part of the group. What’s going on with her? Come to find out, she is the owner of the land next to the pack. Is she an enemy or friend? The interaction between the two helps to build a strong relationship, but of course there are bumps in the road. Really enjoyed this addition to the Psy-Changeling series.
I really enjoyed this one! It was a bit of a return to form in some ways, reminding me a lot of the first few books in the series. I’m still hoping we will get some different pairings in future, I feel like we’ve been sort of promised some more psy-human pairings for a while now but we keep getting more psy-changeling or psy-psy pairings. I’d love to see how the story can be crafted when it’s a human in the mix again, especially a purely human human. Would love also to see more same sex couples & more couples where the female is changeling while the male is psy (only two of those so far.) It seems like we get a lot more male changeling/female psy stories.
But I enjoyed this one. It was very emotional, I found myself tearing up a few times, it was suspenseful too. The only real weakness is that Aiden is far, far more developed than Remi. Remi definetly feels like a bit of a backdrop character, I did not get much growth from him. He was pretty much “all in” with loving Auden from the start, there was no real sense of him coming to love her. He just kind of did, & he is so unfailingly kind that it’s no surprise she would love him. This one is a little light on the romance, focuses more on the suspense plots. I do t mind that every now & then though, so for me it wasn’t an issue. Auden was great, she was more complex than some of the empathy tend to be, a little more willing to get her hands dirty, changeling style, when needed. I liked that. I love a complex character who has to struggle to find their own lines in the sand.
The Psy-Changeling series is one of my favorites. I eagerly look forward to the next book and was not disappointed with Primal Mirror. I was excited to learn Remi was our hero and intrigued by Auden Scott, whom we hadn't met. I loved Remi's strength and compassion, his care for those he considers his, and folding Auden into that group. Auden is the complete opposite of her evil parents and it was good watching her come back to herself and show the strong woman she is. I did wish for a little more romance between the two. They worked together, Remi supported Auden, and then they were together. I feel like I missed the how of that in the midst of all they were dealing with, but overall loved this latest story in this compelling world.
First off I will admit I have not read the rest of this series at all. The description caught my attention and I figured I would give it is a try. I love Remi’s character and while Auden has been controlled by her family for a long time, you can see her fighting to get free. Remi is the perfect counter point o Auden and just what she needs to break free.
I really wanted to get into this one but I’m not I. The right head space to do so. I will be coming back and re-editing this review once I am able to finish.
I was fortunate to be able to read an ARC for this book, which is a continuation in a series I love - thank you Berkley! Alright, first, I am biased - I LOVE Nalini Singh and think she doesn't get the love and recognition I believe she deserves. I mean, obviously, she does okay, but I STILL think she should get more love. 😏Second, if a person is new to the series, a reader should, at the very least, start with Nalini Singh's "Silver Silence", which is an off-shoot/veer from the original "Psy-Changeling" series. Personally, I think it's worth it to go all the way back to her very first in the series "Slave to Sensation", which is just such an enjoyable read and allows you to discover others in the series, but I digress. Third, the review of this book: I REALLY appreciated it. Following the series, it's been getting pretty difficult in their world, how were things going to continue?! I loved getting a throwback to a sweet character that I'm glad was able to get his story. I also loved getting to know a new character who is so empathetic - there's no way to not root for her! And I got my "go kick booty!!!" moments - wonderfully so! I was left satisfied. Additionally, of course, Nalini Singh continues to give awesome characters and pacing, with just one instance of it feeling repetitive, but hopefully that's because it's an ARC and will get cleaned up for final printing. Although, even if it doesn't, I'm still loving this addition to the series!
Hoped onto Netgalley in the morning as I was waiting to leave for 24 hours of travel across the States and to Australia and saw this gem sitting there waiting for me. Could I BE any more excited? Nope!
Cracked it open (metaphorically—I have a Kindle, naturally) on my flight to LA and read the entire time save for bathroom breaks and an awkward chat with my elderly seat mate about the Barbie movie. I loved it and was desperately disappointed the flight wasn’t longer so I could’ve finished it before I had to schlepp myself to the international terminal. On the bright side, I had more Remi and Auden to look forward to.
Dove back in (metaphorically—I am not Kaia the dolphin, nor was the book liquid in any way, shape, or form) as soon as I was settled in my seat to Melbourne and read through to the end without interruption. Sighed. Smiled. Considered starting again immediately (still had about 13 hours of a 14.5 hour flight left), then remembered I’m in the midst of a re-read of this series and would be back to this one in five books time anyway, so instead sat back, closed my eyes, and mentally replayed all my favorite parts.
I love Remi—have been fascinated by him and RainFire since Shards of Hope—and came to love Auden the unknown too. Being back in a pack and seeing the dynamics (along with some welcome, familiar faces) gave me great joy. I was, as always, awed by the continued world building that Nalini Singh does and once again wished for a novella anthology so we could see even more of this universe and all the myriad players who may not need a big book but definitely need a HEA.
This series is my ultimate favorite. And Primal Mirror brought to the series another scorching hot Alpha, a resilient powerful woman, more intrigue and questions, some answers, and a whole lot of fun. I can’t wait to see what comes next in the Psy-Changeling Trinity series—and I can’t wait to re-read this wild, sexy ride/read.
Nalini does it again!!! Every book in the Psy Changeling trinity arc just keeps getting better! And while I adore all of Nalini's couples, my heart does hold a special place for the Psy Changeling ones. We follow Remi, a leopard Alpha of a new pack who we were introduced to in Shards of Hope and Auden Scott, daughter of former counselors Henry and Shoshanna Scott (aka the bad guys). I was curious about Remi and his pack since then, so I was so excited when I learned that we were going to get his story. And Auden has not really been mentioned at all in the previous books, so she was a new character to be curious about. I absolutely loved the romance between these two. However, I will say that the buildup of the relationship was a little lacking compared to some of the other couples in the series. The main focus of the book was definitely more on the overarching series mystery/arc. And we do get some answers! But there is still plenty of ground left to explore in future books, and I can't wait to see which direction Nalini takes the series in next!
I went into this book, not knowing that it was part of an over all much bigger series. I got a couple chapters in and was just hooked with the way that Singh's writing is, and the world building with the depth of the characters. I went back and read a couple others before jumping back into this one. I now have a new to me author that I will be going back and reading everything I can get my hands on. I enjoyed the characters of Auden and Remi and was in love with the different shifters in this world from the normal shifters that we always see.
Another exceptional novel in the series that effortlessly earns a well-deserved 5-star rating. Set against the picturesque backdrop, the story intricately weaves together themes of love, and self-discovery. Singh’s storytelling prowess shines through, creating a narrative that is both emotionally resonant and utterly captivating
Auden Scott is experiencing worrying blackouts. And more than normal even considering her brain injury. She comes to herself in odd places and without memory of what brought her there. Her mother's team, is very eager to test her lapses... along with a worrying preoccupation with her baby. A baby that she doesn't remember agreeing to have.
Leopard alpha Remi Denier is building his new pack from the ground up, and is determined to protect them and his unlikely allies. Auden Scott has the potential to be the enemy, especially because of her two counselor parents, but his leopard is drawn to her.
Why I started this book: Singh is the best and I jumped at the chance to read her latest ARC.
Why I finished it: See above. Singh has a talent for giving each couple room to grow and explore their own relationship while maintaining the arch of the series and the action happening in the wider world she's created. <spoiler>I'm very interested in seeing the romance discussion around this book, as it felt a little Twilight in the solution.</spoiler> As always, Singh's story is a wonderful ride that leaves me eager for more.
