June is a hardworking, rule follower, who lives with her best friends whom are family to her. When they decide to bring in a new roommate for financial reasons, June protests the idea, but gives in to her friend’s requests. Fun loving, outgoing Poppy joins the group immediately clashing with June. Is Poppy out for revenge of some sort or is June imagining things? Will her oldest and dearest friends believe her or will they side with Poppy? A fast paced psychological thriller that I couldn’t put down. Exciting plot twist that left me wanting to know more about the characters.

The Perfect Housemate wasn’t quite a great read for me, but I appreciate a well written thriller, which this was, and it may just be for you.
We are introduced to June who seems well loved by those around her until Poppy joined her roommates and June becomes suspicious that Poppy is turning them against her. That’s especially concerning for her in the case of her best friend, Kimmy. What follows is a little off the wall and a lot curious, as it plays on past and resentments, and I think ultimately a bit too much for me. I did enjoy the twists and again, the writing is excellent, so I’d recommend you pick it up if you’d like to dive into some intrigue!
The perfect housemate was gripped from the start. The story is very gripping and wow the ending is a big surprise. I thoroughly recommend this book, another thrilling read by this talented author !!

Enjoyable
June lives with three girlfriends in London. She has known Tamsin, Kimmy and Flick for a long time. But money is tight and they barely get by. So they decide to rent out the room in the basement. Poppy, a barmaid they’ve met before wants to rent out the room. At first she seems great but then she starts to turn the others against June. Small, petty things at first. But things quickly escalate. Is Poppy out for revenge?
I'm not going to reveal more. Buy this book and read it.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for giving me an advance copy.
Thank you #NetGalley and #Bookouture for allowing me to read this arc .This is my second book that I have read from author, Lorna Dounaeva.I enjoyed the storyline and there were some great twists.
This is the kind of domestic noir that I absolutely love! I went into it thinking it was a familiar premise and that it'd be a decent, but predictable read. How wrong was I?! The author puts such an original spin on a common theme and I was shocked at the twists! Utterly did not see them coming. The characters are well written and made human, I was super invested and read through it in a day. Loved it!
Thank you for the ARC of The Perfect Housemate.
This book was excellent, good twists and storyline.
A dark and twisted thriller that explores female friendships. I love novels like this one, and this one ticked all the boxes. It would be my worst nightmare to have a friend like that!
This was a great thriller it was a dark thriller about friendship and jealousy and how someone acts when someone new is brought into a group of friends. It had me gripped throughout and wow what an ending it was a real shocking ending. Overall I really enjoyed it the pace was a bit slower than I usually like but the story kept me engaged. I will definitely be recommending this. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for my advanced copy.
Four friends sharing a flat are finding it hard to keep up with the ever increasing bills - solution - find another roommate. June, the main character sets about with her friends to clear out the old basement and they soon find the perfect housemate to move in - Poppy. June soon discovers that Poppy may not have been all that she seemed when some strange things started happening to her and concludes it has to be Poppy but do her friends believe her?
Intriguing from the start, perhaps a bit slow in parts but you never stop thinking - what next.
My favourite character would have to be June, she comes across as very particular - maybe even slightly OCD, confident in a lot of aspects but unsure of herself at the same time - I found her to be very well written.
3.5 stars
I liked the concept, i finished the book in one day. The petty things poppy did to june made my blood boil sometimes. My only downside would be that it was slow paced after about half way, it took forever for the twist to be revealed and the twist i guessed. Which is always disappointing 😞

After her last book I was honestly really sceptical. Should I request this or not!? Well, FOMO got me. As I enjoyed the majority of her books, I was not ready to give up just yet.

I honestly enjoyed the boo for about 60 per cent. I loved the petty drama and bitchiness. June was so stuck up and prissy in many ways and was so easy to rile up. But when we first found out the reason behind it, it didn’t really made sense. I mean yeah, a part of Poppys life got messed up, but I found that she was herself to blame for that. The reasoning behind this was not solid enough. It seemed so exaggerated. The build up was really good, but the conclusion did not convince me. The real twist of it… I don’t know…. There was the whole Poppy arc that kind of fell flat with the reasoning behind it and then the end… mhm… it’s kind of leaving room for a sequel but it felt so unnecessary.
I’m really not sure what to think. I am left unsatisfied in a way. The first half was so great but the second one fell flat for me….

Housemates realize they need to take on another roommate for the added income. Poppy becomes the new roommate. June quickly has many concerns about Poppy when bad things start to happen.
This is a story of friendship, grudges, and revenge.
The beginning of the book was reminiscent of a Lifetime movie, and gradually picked up and became more complicated/action packed.

Life is expensive. So the best solution you can come up with is sharing with your four best friends. But when money seems to become a problem still, there is only one thing left to do: trying to find an extra housemate who fits in with the rest of the group.
And then you find her. The perfect housemate everybody likes and they can all breath a little easier. But is she really the perfect find? Does she really fit in? They all seem to agree on that except for one person, June.
Weird things start to happen and June is determined to dig deep enough to find out the what and the why.
It's a well know fact that when you start looking, you might discover things you are not best pleased with and those can be rightout dangerous...
Great story about being convinced about something and be proven wrong. You know the saying 'what you see, is what you get'? In this book it's more about 'what you didn't see, is what you get' or 'what you see, is not what you get'. Maybe it sounds like Chinese to your ears, but you will know what I mean when you read the book. :)
I enjoyed it a lot. 5 stars
Thank you
This is a great dark story about friendship and jealously that will keep you on the edge of your seat. When a group of friends realise they need help paying the rent they decide to decorate the basement and rent that out and after interviewing some candidates choose Poppy. She seems perfect but June starts to feel something is not quite right with her and she seems to have it in for her but the others can’t see it and as she starts to move in on taking her friends as well she is desperate to get her to leave but will it be that easy. I won’t spoil this but it’s a great read.
Very average thriller. Her books seem to be skimmers to me. Poppy moves into a house with June and her friends. She seems to have it out for June. But why? The ending is def a shocker but overall very average.
