In Vaccine Breakthroughs which is a part of a series called Edge Of Medicine Heather East wartz explains how and why certain vaccines were created from small pox, to corona, rabies, and the flu it is a short quick 22 minute long audiobook but it’s very informative interesting and covers the most popular vaccines and the ones that mostly affect the whole world. This is a great listen and I’m so glad I got to hear it. I thought the narrator Melanie Cerry sounded professional knowledgeable and had a great tone for the subject matter. most of the time was spent talking about why and how the Covid vaccine was created so quickly and I know a lot of people aren’t going to believe anything the book says about that but for those who will this is a great source of education. I want to thank Mayo clinic press, dreamscape media and net Galley for my free audio arc copy please forgive any mistakes I am blind and dictate my review.
I'm not sure what to think of this book it is advertised as Children's Nonfiction, but the cover is not very appealing to children.
And it seemed a bit to difficult for younger children, so I guess it is aimed 10-15 year olds.
I enjoyed this one more then Medical Artificial Intelligence Breakthroughs, but that might be because I'm more interested in the topic myself.
This is a short but informative book about vaccines for the middle grades. The information presented was good and offers a broad coverage of the history and use of vaccines in preventing illness, and also includes some information of possible future developments. I was provided this book in an audio format and I think that for this book that did made it a little harder to absorb the information and the ebook might have been easier. I also found the narration wasn't great, it sounded almost computer generated. The contents of the book were well researched and should hopefully provide kids with some good information about this really important medical topic.
I received an advanced copy of this audiobook from Netgalley. All opinions are my own.
This audiobook is only about 20 minutes long so it really is a very brief introduction to vaccines. It was interesting in the way it was presented and the timeline of significant breakthroughs. The different theories behind the creation of the various vaccines and how they came to fruition was explained. If the book was longer and had more depth, it would be more satisfying.
This is a fantastic short introduction to vaccines, their history, and how they work. Many people don't realize that vaccines work in different ways, depending on what kind of disease they prevent. Thanks to NetGalley for letting me listen to this short audiobook, which has fantastic narration. The advantage to reading a print copy would be that there could be pictures showing various aspects.
A good little book for kids to introduce them to vaccines, how helpful they are, and why the work. I do think that the physical book will work best for most children. But for those who need/prefer audio consumption this does a great job
Vaccine breakthroughs is a brief account of vaccine development history.
It gives a short account of various types of vaccines like killed , live attenuated, weakened toxins. The first vaccine that Jenner developed against small pox helped human kind eradicate small pox. Small pox epidemics were cause of numerous deaths all over the globe.
Later combined vaccines were developed as they allowed people to get multiple vaccines in single prick. MMR, DPT were the result. And then polio oral vaccines were developed which was easier to give. Also later nasal vaccines were even more easier to administer. And now virus like particles vaccines like HPV vaccines are administered.
I have always enjoyed reading about medical history and I enjoyed this one as well. Being a part of edge of medicine , this book is 22 minutes short and I really wish it could have been longer. But as it is aimed for children, the language is easy and that is why it is short.
Thank you Netgalley, dreamscape media and mayo clinic press for this wonderful audiobook ARC in exchange of an honest review.
This was provided to me as an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.
This was informative and interesting. It gave a brief history of the efficacy of the vaccination program. While very short, it was packed with information. It was an enjoyable listen on audio.
