Absolutely stunning graphic novel! The colors are beautiful and help tell the story of a young Emily as she discovers and explores nature around her with her adorable companion, Carlo. You can feel her love of the natural world and see how it influenced her poetry. I will definitely be adding this to my elementary school library and my personal children's book collection.

I haven't been on #NetGalley in a while, and when I went, I stumbled upon the CUTEST of graphic novels. "Wildflower Emily: A Story About Young Emily Dickinson" was written by Lydia Corry.
["Emily Dickinson is one of America’s greatest and most original poets of all time. When you hear her name, you may imagine the famous recluse whose withdrawal from society became legendary. But it’s time to meet a new side of Emily, one that is powerful, adventurous, and joyful.
Follow along as we delve into Emily Dickinson’s childhood, revealing a young girl desperate to go out exploring―to meet the flowers in their own homes. Wade through tall grasses to gather butterfly weed and goldenrod, the air alive with the “buccaneers of buzz.” And, don’t forget to keep a hot potato in your pocket to keep your fingers warm.
This is Emily Dickinson as you’ve never seen her before, embarking on an unforgettable journey in her hometown of Amherst, Massachusetts, with her trusty four-legged companion, Carlo."]
"Her friends understood that Emily saw the world differently."
I never knew Emily Dickinson loved wildflowers. I knew her as the quirky recluse poet who was maybe queer. This book was beautiful (in words as well as pictures). And Carlo?!?! He was freaking fabulous! I looooved him.
I loved this book! It was colorful and bright and lighthearted. It was filled with flowers and anthropomorphic bugs and supportive af family/friends. That's the life (maybe minus the bugs--though they were cute): flowers, sunshine, and family/friends.
This graphic novel debuts on October 15, 2024, and you HAVE to get it!

This novel is absolutely stunning and it a must have for any collection. Just flipping through and looking at the art / poems brought such peace when I needed to slow down. The story is a wonderful read and the poetry along with the nature information mixed into it adds such value to the story.
I enjoyed the storytelling and the beautiful illustrations describing a glimpse into the life of Emily Dickinson. I enjoyed the inclusion of poems by Emily to help propel the story. This would be a wonderful addition to help with discussions on flowers, poetry and the friendship of animals. A great addition to a school and classroom library!
If you love Emily Dickinson, poetry, as much as I do, then I definitely recommend picking up this book! As a teacher and a literature lover, this book was perfect and I can’t wait to share it with my own children for storytime.
Lydia Corry imagines Emily Dickinson as a child enjoying nature, inspired by its sights and sounds. Scenes with family, friends, and of exploration are told using, in part, Dickinson's real words from letters and other writings, and related poems are woven in throughout. Factual, historical back matter place into context this engaging and delightfully illustrated story.
Emily Dickinson’s story is written in a very warm and fun way. It’s in a style of comic filled with vivid illustrations, short text and selected poems.
Emily was passionate about botany which she loved exploring in true nature. She did it with her big dog who was supposed to protect her.
When she listened to nature, her second passion woke up within her – poetry.
The story focuses on her early years before she became a recluse. It brings her adventurous and joyful side which truly shines through in this story.
The last pages are in a form of vignettes summarizing the years 1830-1886: how she wrote poetry, made her own books, loved baking, and about her siblings and community.
The target audience for this book is 8-12 years. For proficient readers it will be a breeze, and for those who need more encouragement it will be an enjoyable journey. With simple text and very warm illustrations, the story is presented in a fun way with character that engages and inspires to explore the nature, to be authentic, and to follow one’s heart.
It’s an amazing inspiration for young readers.
This whimsical story of Emily Dickinson as a young girl is a beautiful snapshot of her childhood friends, family, and interests. The graphic novel weaves Emily's adventures with her friends and her dog, Carlo, her poetry, and her studies in botany together in a way that makes the reader feel as though they are getting to know a friend.
This is a great read for middle-grade readers to help them explore the facets of Emily the nature lover and friend and be inspired by her energy, love, and wit.
Wildflower Emily is a children’s graphic novel about Emily Dickinson and her adventure in the wild with her dog. They go to look for flowers.
I really liked this story! It was whimsical and cute. I loved all of the different flowers throughout. The dog was a really cute touch. I loved the poem sprinkled throughout the book as well. The illustrations were very colorful and beautiful to look at. I loved seeing this side of Emily Dickinson since I don’t know much about her or her childhood. I would definitely recommend this to anyone interested in Emily Dickinson!

This is a new favorite book for me. It's a beautifully illustrated story about a girl who loves nature, roaming around with her trusty dog companion. But it's so much more.
Emily Dickinson is one of the most important poets, and this book incorporates some of her most famous works. It's also a story of someone who was always different, and her family loved, supported, and protected her without judgement.
Thanks so much to NetGalley for letting me read this. I would recommend it for any age, even though it's geared towards children
What a lovely book about Emily Dickinson and her beloved dog exploring nature! I learned a lot about the poet in this beautifully illustrated graphic novel, and I appreciated the incorporation of some of her poems into the story. I also enjoyed the pictures of flowers throughout the book and variety of facts about Emily Dickinson at the end. Such a delightful read!
