This is a very sweet and fun sequel to Can’t Spell Treason Without Tea, as our heroines romp around riverside cities and get involved with a pair of true disaster lesbians. I think I enjoyed this more than the first one. It’s cozy in the sense that you know things are going to turn out alright, rather than in the way of there being next to no stakes. Indeed the stakes include near death experiences, famine, execution, and government corruption. But it rattles along nicely and ends up in the right places
3.5, rounded up. I feel a bit curmudgeonly when I admit that I missed the coziness of Tawney and New Tomes and Tea, but it was also fun to meet new characters and see Reyna in her swashbuckling element. My favorite part, however, is in the dedication: "To the people who gave me one-star reviews because the first book 'had lesbians,' I doubled the lesbians in this one. Just for you."
I loved these books. They were such a cozy fantasy vibe and I had fun from beginning to end. From the cast of lovable characters to the plot, it was just a win for me. These were just what I needed after being in a huge slump.
I had so much fun meeting Reyna and Kianthe and following their journey.
Serina and Bobbie made me want to pull my hair out but they got it right in the end.
All of the side characters were great and I would love to read their stories.
Looking forward to the next book!
I listen to it and... You know, Rebecca Thorne is now one of my favorite autor. Cozy Fantasy is high in my favorite genre... When you add a bit od romance and adventure you got the full intearessant story !
My goodness, what a delight these books are. Thorne's books are like a warm hug when you are feeling low and slow, and the ways in which she builds community in her worlds is so endearing. Gives me hope for all of us in the real world.
Kianthe and Reyna are back. The engaged couple are looking for dragon eggs in order to save their hometown, and in order to do that, they must make a deal with the lord Nacean River. They’ve got to bring the pirate Serina to clear up supply chains. They team up with constable Bobbie but soon learn that Serina and Bobbie have a past that leads to a disastrous current situation. Reyna loves matchmaking, and these two need a LOT of help.
Just like the last book, you’ll find adventure, fun, romance, and of course, tea! I had a lot of fun with our old friends and the new ones, too. Sometimes, you just need a low stakes romance to enjoy, and though Serina and Bobbie have a complicated history, it’s adorable watching them deal with it (and Reyna’s matchmaking). Plus, Reyba and Kianthe are cute always.
This one’s out now, and there are two more on the way. I can’t wait!
Cozy fantasy is quickly becoming my favourite subgenre and A Pirate’s Life for Tea is an excellent example of why. It has everything one could want in a cozy fantasy story: swashbuckling, tea drinking, people reuniting after years apart, the bad guy getting his comeuppance, and massive amounts of tea! This story proves that happily every after doesn’t have to mean boring.
And flag doubling the amount of lesbians is always a good idea. I will immediately be digging in to the next book (also on NetGalley) because I don’t want this story to be over.
I thought this was very good and I will have to add this to the shop shelves. Thank you for the chance for us to review.
Immediately picked up this sequel right after Treason and binged it in a single sitting. This is quite a bit more adventurous and high stakes. I was way more invested in the plot, this heist, and all these characters were so much more full bodied. I loved how everything came together at the end. I cant wait for the next intallment in this amazing series.
I loved getting to revisit the world of Kianthe and Reyna. Cozy fantasy may just be my new favorite genre because of Rebecca Thorne—there’s enough world-building to keep me guessing, but the heart of A Pirates Life For Tea comes from the characters.
A cute addition to the Tea series, I love how Kianthe and Reyna interact with each other, it’s such a special relationship. Thorne also has a great balance between the coziness of the story and the action happening. The pirate story and the Bobbie’s character arc were a lot of fun to read and see evolve over time. Definitely worth a read if you enjoyed the first book!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the arc
Sadly I had to DNF this at @18% while I loved the first book this was not grabbing my attention in the same way, maybe it was too cozy for me? I might try again but I am unsure at the moment
A Pirate's Life for Tea was an amazing second book in the Tomes and Tea series. I really enjoy following Reyna and Kianthe on their adventures and in this case Bobbie and Serina who get roped into their scheming. If Rebecca Thorne wants to write ten more of these, I will gladly eat them up.
Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for providing me with an arc for an honest review.
This series has quickly skyrocketed to the top of my favourite books I've read this year. The perfect cozy read that left me with all of the warm fuzzy feelings I could dream of while still keeping an engaging and high stakes plot. Absolutely perfect cozy fantasy!
A Pirate's Life for Tea by Rebecca Thorne, a fun book that is quirky yet imaginative. Its the next in the series that makes you want to read all of them.
While we're in the same world and with the same characters, Rebecca Thorne has done a fantastic job at writing a sequel that expands the world while still keeping the same cozy energy from the first book.
This took me a little bit to get to, but I ADORED this book. Rebecca Thorne is an autobuy author me me since I also loved the previous book in this series.
I didn’t think I liked cozy fantasy that much but this sapphic story has me hooked! It’s cannot wait for the next one
A Pirate's Life for Tea by Rebecca Thorne is an absolute delight—a perfect blend of swashbuckling adventure, charm, and heartfelt moments. From the very first page, Thorne immerses readers in a vibrant, whimsical world where the lines between pirate escapades and tea-time traditions are delightfully blurred.
If you’re a fan of lighthearted adventure, complex characters, and a touch of humor, A Pirate’s Life for Tea is a treasure chest of delights. Rebecca Thorne has crafted a story that’s not just about pirates—but about the little moments of joy that make life, even on the high seas, worth living. Highly recommended!

As soon as I finished Can't Spell Treason Without Tea, I was desperate for more and was fortunate to snag an ARC for the sequel. A Pirate's Life for Tea “doubled the lesbians” and introduced two more POV characters, who I really enjoyed.
I didn't love this second book quite as much as the first, but I can't pinpoint why exactly. It was funny, charming, and full of adventure so I definitely recommend it! It just didn't quite grab my attention from the start like the first book did.
I did like the themes around accountability and the character growth of the characters (particularly Bobbie) was great to see. I appreciate when fantasy books can grapple with tougher topics like the ways police perpetuate systems of harm.
Excited for book 3!
One thing I like about Rebecca Thorne's Tea and Tomes queer romantasy books is they're cozy, but with just enough of an edge to keep you excited. They ride that line really well.
